Episode 360 of RevolutionZ has Larry Cohen, former president of the 600,000 strong Communication Workers of America and current board chair of Our Revolution who has spent five decades organizing workers and pushing democratic reforms inside and outside the Democratic Party to assess No Kings and explore possible future directions for it and of resistance to Trump's fascist agenda. Larry emphasizes the need to organize across differences, to change the rules that block action, and to deliver material wins that build trust. He reveals how the No Kings mobilization surged and what it will take to convert mass turnout into durable power. He names the real opponent—the oligarchy that spans billionaires, technocrats, and captured politicians—and shows how Senate procedures, a monarchic judiciary, and dark money in primaries stop popular policies from getting passed. Instead of living forever on defense, he talks offense: defund the oligarchs, fund the people. Cut bloated military spending, expand early childhood education, long-term care, and health coverage. Enforce bargaining rights so Starbucks and Amazon can't stall contracts for years. Take concrete steps toward Medicare for All by lowering eligibility and slashing administrative waste. But the discussion also addresses the prospects and methods of immediate organizing and protest. Youth, minority, and labor participation. A weekday No Kings. A trajectory from five-minute stoppages to national strikes. Campus feeder marches into No Kings outpourings. All to evidence and rebuild the muscle of collective action.Larry explains from his own experiences at every level from precincts and union struggles to revealing conversations with Barack Obama the horrid flaws and important potentials of electoral activism. He describes how to engage without contempt union members who voted for Trump by focusing on efficacy and tangible gains. He discusses the difference between Trump getting many (horrible) things done. Action. And Democrats getting little to nothing done. Abdication. He points to Obama squandering electoral support and a supportive Senate and House with do-nothingism. And he digs into party reform: blocking dark and corporate money from primaries, enforcing endorsements of primary winners, building coalitions with unaffiliated voters where Democrats can't win and more. Larry urges that the goal ishould be better delivery not better messaging. So this episode is about moving from protest to power. What weekday action by No Kings would you like to join next, rally, march, civil disobedience, or what? Support the show

Burnout has become the quiet epidemic of modern work. We tell people to “set better boundaries” or “take more time off,” but the real problem isn't a lack of self-care—it's that most organizations are designed to exhaust their people. Fear-based cultures, unclear priorities, and performative busyness have turned overwork into a badge of honor, leaving even the most capable teams running on fumes. In this episode, Rodney and Sam unpack the systemic roots of burnout and why it thrives inside traditional hierarchies. They explore how teams accidentally reinforce it, how leaders unknowingly reward it, and share real steps to change the system instead of blaming individuals. -------------------------------- Ready to change your organization? BIO: Thomas J. Powell, founder of The Powell Perspective™, is a seasoned entrepreneur, investor, and advocate for founders, bringing clarity, strategy, and resilience to leaders building at scale.STORY: Thomas invested $3.6M in a friend's cannabis company, where he ignored his own due diligence framework. Because he skipped key governance protections and didn't document alignment or exit terms, the investment became frustrating, hard to control, and nearly impossible to fix—proving that breaking your own rules is the most expensive mistake.LEARNING: Never mix friendship and business. Make sure both you and the founder are solving the same problem. “They say good fences make good neighbors, good documents keep good friendships.”Thomas Powell Guest profileImagine navigating the high-stakes world of capital, strategy, and legacy with a guide who has raised billions and structured ventures worldwide. Thomas J. Powell, founder of The Powell Perspective™, is a seasoned entrepreneur, investor, and advocate for founders, bringing clarity, strategy, and resilience to leaders building at scale.Worst investment everYou've probably heard the saying, “Never mix friendship and business.” Thomas learned that lesson the hard way.His story starts with good intentions. When his kids' grandmother battled breast cancer, cannabis was the only thing that eased her treatment side effects. So when medical marijuana became legal in a few US states, investing in the cannabis industry felt like the right thing to do.But here's where things went wrong.A close friend brought him the deal, and because of that personal connection, Thomas skipped many of the due diligence steps he usually followed through his family office. No detailed governance clauses. No proper reporting framework. No accountability structure. It wasn't a small investment either—about $3.6 million. As time went on, the cracks began to show. The company missed financial reports, accounting systems were weak, and when COVID hit, things only got messier. To make matters worse, taking over the business wasn't even an option since he didn't have a cannabis license. The emotional toll of this situation was significant, as Thomas had to face the reality of his investment failing due to trusting a friend blindly. The worst part? Having to look a friend in the eye, knowing he'd broken his own investment rules.Lessons learnedVerify alignment: Make sure both you and the founder are solving the same problem, and that you share the same exit goals. Ask questions like, “If someone offered to buy this company for $25 million today, would you sell?” If your answers don't match, you're not aligned.Watch the hubris: Just because you're smart or successful doesn't mean you can see around every corner. Understand the legal and regulatory landscape before investing, especially in industries like cannabis, where compliance is complex.Enforce accountability: Set clear reporting expectations from day one and include consequences for missed deadlines. Thomas admits that if his deal had stricter enforcement clauses, it would've saved him time, money, and frustration later on.Andrew's takeawaysMany startups underpay themselves. It might sound noble, but it actually distorts valuation and creates problems later.Make sure founders are paying themselves a market-rate salary. That way, when the business is valued or...

The Chinese government is set to tighten controls on electric vehicles bound for export markets. In a mover similar to that applied to combustion- powered and hybrid vehicles the Chinese will introduce conditional export approval measures on EV’s from the start of next year. The idea being to improve the perception of its low-cost EV’s, the export controls designed to lift the quality of vehicles leaving China. In doing so the move could end the price wars at the most affordable end of the market here which has seen a number of the new Chinese entries this year heavily discounted. The rapid growth of Chinese car exports has raised concerns within China’s Ministry of Commerce with the goal of lifting the countries reputation in emerging markets where low-cost vehicles are often rushed to market without proper support for owners.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Todd opens with a straight shot at today's fight over law and order—ICE raids, National Guard support in blue cities, and the left's meltdown over basic enforcement. Why would any governor or mayor reject help if crime is hurting real people? Todd contrasts “police state” rhetoric with the reality: Guard units in support roles, not roaming for arrests, while local and federal law enforcement target violent offenders and illegal re-entrants. He walks through CHAZ/CHOP memories, DC's safer streets, and the horrifying Charlotte light rail murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska—asking why repeat violent offenders keep getting back out. In this episode of Fatherhood Field Notes: The Craft of Fatherhood, host Ned Schaut gets real about the tension between being a “fun dad” and a responsible parent. Reflecting on moments with his teens and college-aged kids, Ned shares how easy it is to say yes to dirt bikes, hangouts, and late-night drives—but how crucial it is to also enforce accountability, chores, and responsibility. Through candid stories about family dinners, devotions, and even shutting down screen time, he explores how fatherhood shifts with each season—from raising young kids to guiding adult children—and why dads must lead their homes with love, calm firmness, and consistency. At the heart of the conversation is learning when to hold the line and when to step back—when to enforce discipline and when to show mercy. Ned opens up about moments where he intentionally stayed quiet, choosing relationship over reaction, and how that practice can change the way kids respond. With practical tips, raw honesty, and affirmations like “I am the CEO of this house” and “I will not surrender my responsibility to lead this home,” this short but powerful episode challenges fathers to ask: Do I need to say yes more, no more—or show mercy more often? Todd Thompson exposes today's ideological Left as a new religion — with saints, martyrs, blasphemy laws, and holy wars. From DEI rituals to the Jonestown Warning, this broadcast shows how ideology has replaced faith and why the Red–Green Alliance threatens Western civilization. - Broadcast August 22, 2025 on WWCR 4840 kHz from Nashville, this week's edition of The Thompson Show dives headfirst into the theme of ideological religion — the secular Left's new faith, complete with saints, martyrs, blasphemy laws, and holy wars. Todd examines how today's ideological zealots: Canonize their saints and martyrs — from Marx and Lenin to George Floyd and Greta Thunberg. Enforce blasphemy laws in the form of speechcrime and cancellation. Sacrifice truth, tradition, and common sense on the altars of DEI, climate zealotry, gender ideology, and ritualized propaganda. Wage holy wars through riots, uprisings, and cultural purges in the name of “justice.” From Joan Didion's warning about “moral imperatives” to Jacques Ellul's insight on propaganda and orthopraxy, Todd connects the dots between ideological conditioning and religious zeal. He highlights the Boomerang Effect — how integration propaganda meant to normalize (like corporate DEI rituals or Target's pride campaigns) backfires into outrage. The broadcast reaches its climax with the Jonestown Warning: Jim Jones as the original “woke Marxist preacher,” blending Bible verses with socialist slogans, building a utopian commune that ended in mass graves. Todd argues that the same psychology underlies today's woke religion — utopia promised, hysteria enforced, corpses delivered. Closing the show, Todd expands the critique to Europe's blasphemy laws, the UK and Scotland punishing veterans and teachers for “Islamophobia” while excusing Islamist extremism. He ties this selective enforcement to the Red–Green Alliance, showing how the far-Left and Islamists have made common cause against Western civilization. Since the Supreme Court's landmark June 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade and federal abortion protections, a wave of state legislatures have rushed to impose bans and restrictions. According to the Guttmacher Institute, 41 states now have abortion bans in effect, including 12 with total bans. “We hear about the endless, supposedly unintentional consequences of abortion bans like rising maternal mortality, child rape victims forced to travel across state lines, increased risk of criminalization, pregnant victims coerced by their abusers, all of that,” says journalist Kylie Cheung, author of “Coercion: Surviving and Resisting Abortion Bans.” “But I very much argue that these aren't unintended consequences.” This week on The Intercept Briefing, Cheung joins host Jessica Washington to trace the direct line from the Dobbs decision to state-sanctioned gender-based violence and control. “This is what abortion bans function to do, which is to police and control pregnant people, to feed cycles of abuse, to be this tool in the toolbox of abusers. To enact racial violence and economic subjugation and essentially lower women and pregnant people and people who can become pregnant to this lowered class in our society,” says Cheung. “And that is not unintentional at all.Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join. We want the village we were promised, but to be able to make the most of it, we need to be able to receive it.Tannaz and I explore both how the collective can support us and what we need as individuals to thrive. We talk about: How prioritizing individualism over collectivism and masculine energy over feminine leads to problemsWhy we need connection to energy bigger than ourselves and learning to feel safe receivingThe impact of COVID and our resultant sense of safety on relationships nowHaving an internal anchor to ground yourselfHow to set boundaries with others and ourselves5 different kinds of intimacy we craveABOUT TANNAZTannaz Hosseinpour is a relationship coach and registered psychotherapist (qualifying) who helps individuals build emotionally secure relationships, starting with the one they have with themselves. Action is how change happens.Often we feel like our actions have to be huge to match the bigness of our desires, but we have seen over and over and over again that the little things add up. By stacking up a series of Doable Changes, you will create that big change that you crave. Choose the one that really resonates with you this week and really make it part of your life. Here are Three Doable Changes from this conversation:SMALL STEPS TO FEELING SAFE WITH PEOPLE. Post-Covid, a lot of us don't feel safe in public or large groups, and we may not even realize it. Taking small steps to spend time with people can make a difference. Try getting together with one or two people. Breathe through discomfort. Remind yourself you are safe. Try a small group.SET A BOUNDARY. Instead of getting angry at somebody else when you feel hurt, express your “I” statement about how you feel and what you would like. Enforce the boundary. If the other person does not respond, choose the change your actions.TAKE A BREAK. Next time you find yourself in an argument or going around and around in circles of not understanding, take a break. Give yourself at least 20 minutes to re regulate. Come back to the conversation when all parties have had a chance to do that.

This Podcast Is Episode 639, And It's About Pillar 3: Delivering Construction Projects Profitably A Construction Bookkeeper's Guide to Smarter Production for Small Contractors You've done the hard work: marketed your services, landed the job, and priced it to make a solid profit. But here's where a lot of small construction businesses lose money—even after doing everything right up to this point. That moment is project execution—or what we in the business world call production. As construction bookkeeping specialists, we've seen many jobs transition from profitable to painful simply because the contractor lacked systems in place to track costs, manage scope, or control labor once the work commenced. Let's discuss Pillar 3: Delivering Projects Profitably, and how refining your production process can safeguard your profits, enhance your reputation, and alleviate stress. Why "Doing the Work" Isn't Enough Many contractors assume that once the job starts, the hard part is over. But production is where the majority of the risk lives: Labor costs can balloon Materials may get wasted or delayed Clients can change their minds mid-project Subcontractors may not show up when they're supposed to Scope creep can kill your margins without you realizing it From a bookkeeper's point of view, this is when the numbers begin to go awry. Profitability doesn't just come from winning jobs—it comes from controlling how they're delivered. What "Delivering Profitably" Actually Means To deliver projects profitably, you need to finish the job: On budget On schedule With the client happy enough to pay (and refer you) It's not just about good craftsmanship. It's about project management. Whether you're a solo operator or have a small team, production needs structure. Fortunately, it doesn't need to be complicated. Where Small Contractors Lose Profit During Production Before we dive into solutions, let's look at where money is most often lost on the job site: 1. Untracked Labor If you don't know how many hours you or your crew are spending on a job, you can't compare it to your estimate. It's one of the most common profit-killers we see in the books. 2. Material Overruns Materials get lost, over-ordered, or wasted—especially if you're not reconciling purchases to job estimates. 3. Unbilled Change Orders Clients often add or alter project elements. If those changes aren't documented and billed, you're giving away free work. 4. Delays and Downtime Time is money. Waiting on materials, subs, or client decisions can derail your schedule and cost you future jobs. 5. Scope Creep "Can you just add this one little thing?" becomes a margin-eating monster when not adequately managed. Now, let's talk about how to prevent those losses and protect your bottom line. 7 Ways to Deliver Projects More Profitably 1. Start with a Clear Scope and Signed Agreement It may sound simple, but many contractors begin work without a detailed, signed agreement. You need: A detailed scope of work Payment milestones A change order policy Completion criteria This sets expectations and gives you leverage when things change (and they will). 2. Create a Simple Project Timeline Even a basic calendar or whiteboard showing: Job phases Material delivery dates Key milestones can help you stay on track and manage client expectations. Suppose you're using software like Buildertrend or Jobber, great. If not, even a shared Google Sheet can work. The goal is visibility. 3. Track Labor in Real Time You can't manage what you don't measure. Use time tracking tools (like ClockShark or QuickBooks Time), or even a shared text log, to record: Who worked For how long On which part of the job This allows you (and your bookkeeper) to identify when jobs are dragging and compare actual versus estimated hours. 4. Monitor Materials Closely Set up a simple system to: Track what materials were ordered Match receipts to jobs Avoid duplicate purchases If you have frequent material overruns, your bookkeeper can help you adjust future estimates and avoid surprises. 5. Enforce a Change Order Policy This one is HUGE. Every time a client asks for something outside the original scope, pause and issue a change order. Even a one-page form signed via email or a mobile app is sufficient. Change orders should: Define the change List any added costs or time Be signed before work continues When this is routine, you stop giving away "just one more thing" for free. 6. Communicate Early and Often Most client disputes happen when they're left in the dark. Set the standard for regular updates: A weekly progress email A shared photo log A short call every Friday This maintains high trust and prevents minor issues from escalating into unpaid invoices or negative reviews. 7. Review Project Profitability After Completion After every project, sit down with your bookkeeper (or even just your notes) and ask: What was the estimated vs. actual cost? Where did we exceed our budget or deadline? Did we bill for all extras? What should we do differently next time? This post-job review turns every project into a learning tool that improves your future estimates, planning, and pricing. Where Bookkeeping Supports Better Production As your construction bookkeeping specialists, we can help you: Track job costs accurately during the project Alert you when a job is going over budget Ensure change orders are captured and billed Break down labor and materials per project Provide job-by-job profit reports In short, good production data = good financial reporting. And when we work together, we can spot patterns that help you grow smarter. The Results of Controlled Production When you focus on project delivery as intentionally as marketing and money management, you'll start to see: Jobs finishing on time Less rework and missed items Higher profit margins Happier clients (which means more referrals) Reduced stress and better control of your schedule Over time, this builds a reputation that attracts higher-quality clients, enabling you to raise your rates with confidence. Final Thoughts Build Systems, Not Just Projects You know how to build a deck, remodel a kitchen, or manage a crew. But your business needs structure, too. When you build systems around how you deliver your work, you reduce chaos and protect your profits. Pillar 3: Production isn't about doing more—it's about doing smarter. With a bit of planning, tracking, and review, you can make every job a stepping stone to a stronger, more profitable business. Want Help Tracking Job Profitability? If you're tired of guessing how much money you're really making on each job, we can help you set up: Job costing systems Labor and material tracking Change order logs Profit and loss reports per project Let's get your numbers working for you. In this episode of Building Better Developers with AI, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche take a deep dive into one of the most uncomfortable—but—essential parts of being a developer: developer feedback. Using AI tools like ChatGPT, they revisit their past topics and uncover new insights on how feedback, communication, and mindset shape stronger, more collaborative developers. AI's Perspective: Developer Feedback as a Growth Tool Rob kicks off the episode by sharing how they asked ChatGPT to structure a show around developer feedback. The AI delivered a simple but powerful reminder: Feedback isn't criticism. It's a tool for growth. Key Takeaway: “Professionals seek feedback. Amateurs avoid it.” By reframing feedback as data rather than a personal critique, developers can use it to refine their skills, just as they would when debugging their code. Rob emphasizes that real-time, in-person code reviews often reveal more than written comments. They provide opportunities for knowledge sharing, cross-training, and discovering undocumented project details. Creating a Safe Space for Developer Feedback Michael reminds listeners that developer feedback works best in a safe and collaborative environment. Taking a breath before reacting allows you to absorb feedback objectively. Pro Tip: Treat feedback as input to improve — not a personal attack. However, Michael cautions against over-relying on constant feedback. While it's essential for growth, too much can erode confidence. Effective developers seek feedback purposefully and filter out noise. Code Reviews: The Most Overlooked Feedback Tool Both hosts stress the value of regular code reviews as an essential form of developer feedback: They catch errors early Enforce coding standards Reduce duplication and dead code Provide cross-training for the team Michael's Advice: “If your code changes are too big to review efficiently, your process needs adjusting.” Regular, focused code reviews keep teams aligned, enhance code quality, and enable developers to learn from one another. Beyond Code: Communicating with Non-Developers Rob reminds us that actual growth comes not just from technical feedback but from communicating effectively with non-developers. Whether it's labeling input fields clearly or translating technical issues for business stakeholders, every interaction shapes project success. Developer Feedback in Action: Understanding your users' language makes your product better — and prevents avoidable frustration. How to Process Developer Feedback Without Ego The hardest part of handling developer feedback? Managing your emotions. Rob and Michael outline how to stay grounded: Don't react — review, digest, reflect Ask clarifying questions without defensiveness Look for patterns across multiple feedback sources By approaching feedback with curiosity rather than ego, developers grow faster and foster stronger teams. Final Thoughts: Winning Through Listening Rob closes with timeless advice: “The person who talks the least in a meeting often wins.” Listening more — to peers, customers, and users — leads to better feedback, fewer misunderstandings, and stronger products. Developer Feedback may be uncomfortable, but it remains one of the fastest, most effective ways to grow as a developer. Combined with AI tools, code reviews, and intentional communication, feedback turns everyday frustrations into long-term success.
