Welcome back! Today, we're reframing how you think about the time, money, and energy you've poured into yourself. You've been investing in your skills, your growth, and your mindset—and now it's time to monetize that investment. In this episode, I'll show you why your value has gone up and why your compensation needs to reflect the current you, not the old you. Let's stop selling ourselves short and start commanding what we're truly worth in the marketplace. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Your Investment = Increased Value: Understand how your time and financial investments in self-development directly increase the value you bring to the marketplace. Stop Using the Old You as a Benchmark: Learn why basing your worth on past rates, skillsets, or confidence is holding you back—and how to break free from outdated benchmarks. How to Command Higher Income: Get actionable strategies to assess your current value and ensure your pricing, salary, or rates reflect the new and improved you. Why Confidence Matters: Discover how confidence, paired with your growing expertise, can unlock new levels of income and opportunity. Key Moments: Why the investment you made last month makes you more valuable today. How self-development translates into marketplace value. The confidence shift: Why charging what you're worth isn't just about skills—it's about believing in yourself. Breaking the “old you” cycle: Stop looking backward when setting your rates or salary expectations. Actionable steps to monetize your growth and demand your worth. Quotes from the Episode: "You are worth more today because of the investment you made in yourself yesterday. Your value went up—don't let anyone tell you otherwise." — April Garcia "Stop using the old you as a benchmark. The marketplace isn't paying for who you were last month; they're paying for who you are right now." — April Garcia "Confidence plus expertise equals income. When you invest in yourself, your confidence grows—and so should your paycheck." — April Garcia Action Steps for Listeners: Reassess Your Value: Write down the skills, knowledge, and confidence you've gained in the last six months. Ask yourself, “Am I being compensated for the person I am today?” Update Your Rates or Salary Expectations: If you're an entrepreneur, raise your rates to reflect your new value. If you're an employee, prepare to negotiate a raise or promotion. Communicate Your Value: Practice articulating the value you bring to clients, employers, or partners. Be specific about how your skills and knowledge create results. Invest Continuously: Keep leveling up! Set aside time and money each month for self-development—it pays dividends in both value and income. --------------------------- Want to be part of a transformative experience for entrepreneurs and leaders?

Too often, Romans 13:1-2 is used as a bludgeon to coerce people into meekly giving in to the current political regime and gaslighting their appropriate Spirit-led responses to the politics du jour. I've grown up enough to recognize it as outright spiritual abuse. And I've never heard it preached anytime other than during trying political seasons. That needs to stop. Welcome to your weekly UAS news update we have 3 stories for you; GAO Report on Foreign Made Drones, officials tell Fairfax County to stop using DJI, Axon acquires Dedrone, and new record drone show. First up, the GAO has released a report on the Department of Interior's stance on foreign drones. Currently, the DOI does not allow foreign drones to be used except for emergency situations such as search and rescue and wild fires. The GAO studied the effects of the policies after the DOI asked them to, covering the 4 most active departments; bureau of land management (BLM), Fire and Wildlife service (FWS), National Park Service (NPS), and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Findings from the GAO are predictable; the majority of drones are now nearing their end of life and replacing them with compliant drones is much more expensive. Due to the reduction in fleet size, bureaus haven't been able to expand their use of drones and some no longer have enough drones even for emergencies. Even for bureaus that have purchased approved drones, the drones aren't be delivered until 6 months or more later. The GAO gave the example that in April of 2024, the DOI had purchased 98 drones for fiscal year 2024 and only 46 had been delivered. In another example, the National Park Service purchased drones for wild fire management in March and were not expected to have the drones in hand until October, missing nearly all of the 2024 fire season. The GAO goes on to discuss that compliant drones are not as capable in carrying payloads nor are as reliable. Due to these problems, not only have emergency flights decreased but non-emergency flights for research, surveys, training, and post-storm recoveries have become nearly non-existent. Next up, federal law makers John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi from the House of Representatives have urged Fairfax County to stop using DJI. In a letter to the county Board of Supervisors the representatives stated “The PRC-made UAS platforms and censors currently used by Fairfax County collect high-resolution imagery of facilities and individuals at risk, putting them at risk of being collected by the CCP,” This is the first time we've seen representatives attempting to influence a particular public safety department on what drones to use or not use. Fairfax county sits just south west of Washington DC along the Potomac river. At this time, we don't know how the county will respond but we'll keep you updated if we see more. Third, Axon has finished the acquisition of Dedrone. Dedrone is a counter UAS system that uses RF detection, RADAR, cameras and for authorized users can include hammers, drone take over, and kinetic means to stop a rogue drone. An important note is that the DOD are the only ones currently who are allowed to utilize these tools to stop a drone. We'll keep you updated if we see more from Dedrone and Axon! Last up, Sky Elements broke the record this week for the most drones launching pyrotechnics. The city of Mansfield TX partnered with Sky Elements to break the word record of most drones launching pyrotechnics. Sky Elements used 1164 drones to break the record in a free drone show for residents. Cool use of the drones and we're sure we'll continue to see bigger and bigger drone shows! That's all for this week, we'll see you later in the community for Happy Hour and on Monday for our Q&A! https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-24-106924.pdf https://dronelife.com/2024/10/01/lawmakers-urge-fairfax-county-to-end-use-of-dji-drones-due-to-national-security-concerns/ https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/mansfield-texas-drone-show-guinness-world-record-sky-elements-display/287-a03f5178-feea-43ca-9e06-7e5a5ae2a099
The Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning people to immediately dispose of a magnetic game because it poses serious ingestion risks for children. The CPSC posted a warning that "Magnetic Chess Games" sold by JOMO contain magnets that do not comply with U.S. federal safety regulations. As a result, the "loose, hazardous magnets pose a risk of serious injury or death," according to the warning. The CPSC said it issued a violation notice to JOMO, but that the company has not agreed to recall its Magnetic Chess Games or provide a remedy. The commission urged people to stop using the game and throw it away immediately. The games were sold online at walmart.com in a blue box with the word "magnetic" on the front and back, according to the CPSC. They include about 20 loose black magnets but not chess-shaped pieces, despite its marketing. It's unclear when or how long these games were sold. A CPSC spokesperson said the commission could not provide further information since JOMO is not cooperating. A Walmart spokesperson said customers' health and safety are the company's top priority and that it began working to remove the games soon after the CPSC warning was issued. Experts have long noted the serious health hazards tied to swallowing magnets, with children particularly at risk. When high-powered magnets are ingested, the CPSC noted, they can attract each other or another metal object in the body and become lodged in the digestive system—potentially resulting in blockage, infection, blood poisoning or death. Overall, the CPSC estimates a total of 2,400 magnet ingestions were treated in hospitals annually between 2017 and 2021. The commission said it is aware of eight related deaths from 2005 through 2021, two of which were outside the U.S. This article was provided by The Associated Press.
Ever been stuck in a meeting drowning in buzzwords? Terms like "synergies", "low-hanging fruit" or "deliverables"? They're just a few examples of corporate jargon. A lexicon of colourful metaphors, buzzwords and acronyms that you'd never use with friends or family but have become common parlance in the world of international business. Workplace lingo might serve as a useful industry short-hand, or a way to gel with colleagues, but it can also irritate, obscure meaning or even hide unpleasant truths. And it's more prevalent than ever. In this episode, we team up with our colleagues at BBC Learning English to explore the origins and purpose of corporate language and why we love to hate it; hearing from workplace culture and linguistics experts, professionals in the City of London, a plain-talking CEO, and some of you - the BBC World Service audience.(Picture: Business people looking at sticky notes on a glass board as part of an upskill workshop. In the hustle to make your marketing easier, you might be accidentally sending potential clients to other websites - especially on Instagram - through all the "Link in BIO" tools that people use every day. But here's the problem with those easy-to-use tools: you are hurting your own website's traffic and visibility, too. Think about it: when you use these tools, you're sending people to someone else's website and giving away valuable traffic, clicks and visits to someone else's website. Stop giving that valuable traffic away!By using these link tools or other ones where the click takes people to a place that is not your website, you're missing out on that extra website traffic, which also means the search engines are missing a critical message about your website. It's a lesson that applies to so many other areas of your marketing, and there is a simple fix to it. A fix that is easy to do… and gives your website a traffic boost - instantly.Hit play to learn the fundamental marketing strategy behind this episode and how to reclaim your traffic. According to the Associated Press, a federal judge in Atlanta ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump and his campaign must stop using the song “Hold On, I'm Coming” while the family of co-writer Isaac Hayes Jr. pursues a lawsuit. The estate alleges copyright infringement, stating that Trump's campaign used the song over 133 times since 2020 without permission. The lawsuit claims the unauthorized use caused the estate to incur significant economic damages. U.S. District Judge Thomas Thrash issued a preliminary ruling, stopping future use of the song, but denied requests to remove existing videos featuring it. Hayes' son expressed gratitude for the decision, hoping it encourages other artists to protect their rights. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Please stop using mediocre AI art in your posts, published by Raemon on August 25, 2024 on LessWrong. Epistemic Status: Old Man Blogs at Cloud Lately there's been a wave of people on LessWrong (and maybe the whole internet) starting off their essays with some Dall-E3 art. I don't object (and think it can be cool if done nicely) to get some good ML art to add some visual interest to your posts. But, the default thing I'm seeing is mediocre and making the web feel tacky. [1] I don't want to just yell at people and make them feel self-conscious about their fun. I have an art background, which means I both have a lot of experience making/evaluating art and also probably have random-ass snooty connoisseurship syndrome. Also I was involved with the fleshing out of the current LessWrong Watercolor Aesthetic, and random clip-art looking images undercut it. (But, to be fair nobody actually voted for or opted into the LessWrong Watercolor Aesthetic, and maybe that's just my problem). I think not all posts need art. But, if you do want art for your post, here's some hopefully slightly constructive advice/requests. 1. Generally, make landscape (widescreen) art. Most image models output square images by default. This actually fits fairly awkwardly into blogposts - it either takes up a huge amount of vertical space, or you shrink it to fit and then it has weird padding. (The motivating instance for this blogpost was this post, which IMO would be greatly improved if the image was designed to take up more horizontal space). Sometimes a post makes good use of a very tall art, to set some kind of mood, but it works better for more contemplative posts. (See On Green for an example). 2. Good AI art still takes a fair number of generations and effort. I'm not sure how many generations people typically do that outputs that mediocre art, but I do want to note, for reference, when I'm making a quick piece of AI art for something (like a facebook event) it still usually involves at least like 5 generations (in Midjourney, where each generation includes 4 options), and often more like 20. And when I'm trying to make actually good art for something I want people to really appreciate (such as the Carving of Reality books), it might be hundreds of generations. 3. Think about the mood you want to convey, not just the posts' intellectual content. Good art sets a tone and helps shift someone into a particular headspace. This doesn't just include the content of the art but the style and color palette. This is particularly important if you're opening the post with art, where it's setting the very first impression (and is also more likely to show up in the Recent Discussion feed, where it'll look more random). That's probably not very helpful advice on it's own. Making good art is, like, a whole-ass skill. But, on the offchance you weren't thinking about that at all, maybe giving it at least some consideration will probably help. Okay, that's it I guess thank you for indulging my rant. 1. ^ Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org

Ever since Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race, things changed. Her campaign almost immediately started framing the election as: Harris, the former prosecutor - vs. Trump the felon. And that word - "felon" - is one that our friends over at NPR's Code Switch have been thinking a lot about since former President Trump was convicted of 34 counts back in May. In this episode, Code Switch co-hosts B.A. Parker and Gene Demby chop it up with the comedian Arif Shahid, who performs under the name Felonious Munk, to talk about what it means for him to carry this reference to his felony conviction so publicly. Then, Gene talks to Josie Duffy-Rice, a writer who focuses on the criminal justice system, to look at the ways "felon" sticks to people long after their sentences end.
