Skip straight to the case: (9:41) On July 15, 1986, Christopher Abeyta was around 7 months old. He fell asleep in his older sister's arms and was carried to his crib, which was located three feet from the bed of his parents. When his mother Bernice awoke the following morning, Christopher was nowhere to be seen. Now, almost 40 years later, no trace of Christopher has ever been found. The Abeyta family are adamant that someone known to the family abducted Christopher. They have publicly named a woman as a suspect. This woman was having an affair with Christopher's father Gil, and was known to have a history of mental health issues. Could someone have abducted Christopher and raised him as their own? Or was the baby a victim of foul play? There's calls for law changes among experts after a 2-month-old baby died after she was allegedly given medication at an adult dosage by a pharmacy. This incident has prompted the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand to 'urgently' undertake a joint review into the incident. Lanny Wong, director of Mangawhai Pharmacy and a member of the national executive of the Pharmaceutical Society says something's clearly gone wrong - and an investigation is needed. "It does seem out of place, I don't think any pharmacist would disagree with your sentiment. Obviously, something went wrong here and we need to understand what that is." In this true crime story of Love and Murder: Heartbreak to Homicide, I tell you about the tragic case of Baby Peter Connelly (Baby P,) the 17-month-old toddler whose life was cut short by horrific abuse in North London, England. On October 3, 2007, a 911 call from his mother, Tracy Connelly, revealed a horrific scene that would expose systemic failures in child protective services. As paramedics arrived, they found Peter unresponsive, covered in bruises, and with a myriad of injuries that shocked and sickened everyone.Listen now as I go over the timeline of Peter's life, from his birth to the series of missed opportunities by social services and medical professionals that ultimately led to his death. I recount the horrific details of his abuse, the failed interventions, and the subsequent trial that left many questioning the accountability of those responsible for his care. This episode serves as a powerful reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children and the critical need for effective protective measures. I reflect on the outrage that followed Peter's death and the reforms that were demanded in the wake of such a preventable tragedy. Timestamp to skip intro: (8:45) In 2019, Evelyn Boswell (15 months) was seen alive for the last time, reportedly by a babysitter in Blountville, Tennessee. Evelyn was not reported missing until February 2020. Her grandfather raised the alarm after he said he had not seen the child since Thanksgiving. Authorities started investigating and zeroed in on Evelyn's mother, Megan ‘Maggie' Boswell. Megan gave varying accounts of where the child was and repeatedly lied to law enforcement. In March 2020, Evelyn's tiny body was found with her head wrapped in aluminum foil. She had been stuffed into a trash can and discarded like waste. Megan would be arrested and charged with Evelyn's murder. Now, five years later, Megan's trial has just concluded and she has been found guilty of killing her daughter. In fact, Mirabelle's little face is bright angry red and her body seems stiff. Grandma C rushes to put her down and unzips baby Mirabelle's onesie… She's peeling. The skin on her entire body is peeling. Mirabelle's mom starts to explain that she must have suffered a stroke while holding her baby and fell on top of her… onto the space heater. Squashing her baby into the space heater and burning her. But when authorities arrive - they start to think differently.
