In this episode I welcome Bro. Daniel Heffernan. We discuss the Fourth Commandment “Honor Your Father and Your Mother”, and the implications and duties that it imposes both on children and parents in the family. We look in particular to St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians (Eph 6:1-2). We also consider the family as the basis for the whole human society. - You can find these topics in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, numbers 2196 to 2257. - Fr. In the final week of the series on pray, we will be looing at the relationship between prayer and worship. Paul demonstrates this as he prays for the church in Ephesians (Eph 3:14-21) ending with a time of worship and praise. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
Friends of the Rosary: Grace is given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift, St. Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesians (Eph 4:1-7, 11-13), as we read yesterday in the Gospel. To the holy ones, Christ equips them for building up His mystical body, the universal Church. Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers are provided with the knowledge to spread the Eternal Truth. Consecrated religious people and lay people like us are all urged to live, in Paul's words, "with humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace: one Body and one Spirit." We all share the apostolic mission of building up together the Kingdom of Heaven by evangelizing those who haven't received the gift of the faith. What the Christian world needs today is a good publication. I found that the one, like two centuries ago, entitled Sound Words, would fit into today's world. Times changes but people stay the same. My plan is to republish this magazine, but I am not sure I will get through all 98 volumes. I will read through all the articles and do the ones that seem to fit our times. Let us start out with the original introduction. ‘An Outline of Sound Words' — Introduction In his second epistle to Timothy, the apostle Paul enjoined his beloved child to “have an outline of sound words,” and to “keep by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.” This injunction, in the holy Scriptures, comes to us that we might know how to hold fast the truth of God in these last days, when it is being given up on every hand, and when its heavenly power over the hearts of God's dear saints is being lost, with consequent departure from the path of God's will. We do well to realise that the truth cannot be maintained unless the doctrine encompassed in the outline of sound words is held intelligently and tenaciously, or without the spiritual condition, consonant with the doctrine, produced in the heart by the Holy Spirit. With the true knowledge of the doctrine, and with hearts answering to it by the working of the Spirit, there will be the manifestation of the truth in the lives of God's dear saints, where indeed, it is to be held according to the mind of God. If the Lord will, we hope to send out this little magazine occasionally; desiring and praying that the Head of the body, the assembly, our Lord Jesus Christ, will furnish it with ministry that will help His beloved saints in the apprehension of the precious truth of God, and encourage their exercises towards its manifestation in their lives. William C. Reid. (Editor) Quotations of Scripture are from the Authorised Version, or from the New Translation of J. N. Darby.

Today, Tuesday June 22 Laborers Together With God Colossians 4:7-9 “Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts, and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you of everything that has taken place here.” In verse 5, Paul tells us to “walk in wisdom”, especially in our relationships with those who still might not have a personally relationship with Jesus Christ. This means we will take the time to get to know and understand those we might have the opportunity to share Christ with. We need to genuinely care about them and their needs. After they see we care, they will hopefully begin to ask us questions about our faith. That's why Paul goes on to say, “that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” (v. 6) Now, beginning in verse 7 to the end of the chapter, Paul begins to mention the names of several people who have assisted him in the ministry. As I think about these names, I'm amazed at my lack of knowledge of who they are. We all know about the “great” Apostle Paul who was accused of “turning the world upside down”. Who was used by God to take the Good News of Jesus to the known world of his day! And who gave us thirteen books of the New Testament. One of the most famous churches in the world today is St. Paul's Cathedral in London England. No doubt, thousands of churches around the world bear his name. But have you ever heard of a church named, “St. Tychicus Cathedral? The truth is, that as great as the Apostle Paul was, he could not have done it alone. And Paul was always quick to give credit to those who assisted him in the ministry. No pastor, evangelist, or missionary can do the Lord's work alone. 1 Corinthians 3:9 reminds us that “We are laborers together with God.” Tychicus (vv. 7-8) had been with Paul for several years. He accompanied Paul from Ephesus (Acts 20:4) as he returned to Jerusalem and possibly was a citizen of Ephesus. He had labored there with Paul for those three years. Tychicus was to carry the letters to the Colossians and the Ephesians (Eph. 6:21-22). This man had a long and dangerous journey ahead of him. How thankful we are that he was faithful to deliver the Word, otherwise we could not study it today! (2 Tim. 4:12). I am so thankful for all those who have assisted me over these forty-six years of ministry with their prayers, love, support and their dedicated Christian service! Thank you and God bless!

Fr. Riccardo discusses the mutual subordination of husband and wife while reflecting on the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians (Eph 5:21-32) from today's second reading. Fr. John reminds the congregation that marriage is a sacrament of service, and that husbands and wives will find fulfillment in their selfless service of each other. Fr. John's dissertation referenced in this homily is available here.
