A thousand facets sat with the McCaul brothers, Barry and David in their beautiful store in Dublin, Ireland and they chat about how their career in the jewelry industry, how they mix new technology with traditional traditions and what it is to be back on the town they grew up to open their store there. About: We are traditional goldsmiths, known for our unique modern fine jewellery. Our signature style is curvaceous, modern and elegant. Each piece of McCaul Goldsmiths' jewellery is designed, made and set in-house, from start to finish, using traditional techniques and modern technology. We love to explore new ideas and are continually adding new designs to our collection. Visit the McCaul Goldsmiths' ateliers in Dublin and London to watch us at work and browse the current designs in our collection. As classically trained goldsmiths, our style and forms are heavily influenced by technique and the properties of the precious metals we work with. We aim to create elegant jewellery that accentuates the curves and contours of the body. Rings gently meander around the fingers and earrings sweep and caress the contours of the neck. Precious metals are hand-forged into sweeping tapered loops; a curve highlighted with lines of tiny diamonds; colourful gemstones inspire one-off creations. Our search for exceptional gemstones regularly takes us to fairs abroad where we source our most remarkable stones. Kicking off series three is a conversation with the absolutely brilliant Eleanor Tattersfield @marbyandelm who has been collecting the UK's sex secrets. Anonymously sent to her on postcards this collection of cards are absolutely stunning, and they really do have a story to tell in terms of what's going on in our sex lives and how we think and feel about sex. I talk to Eleanor about how I think the postcards are a form of sex education; and are opening up our narratives about what we find erotic, desirable, pleasurable and what turns us on. The series also breaks down the idea that there are limited ways that we can express ourselves sexually, and encourages us to think about our definitions and ideas about sex. ••• Marby & Elm is a little stationery shop on Exmouth Market in Clerkenwell. After the success of Lockdown Secrets ( https://www.marbyandelm.com/store/products,lockdown-secrets-book_647.htm ) Eleanor decided to launch the series Sex Secrets in a hope to prove that in fact we all pretty much share them and are far from alone. “This whole lockdown period has definitely given a lot of people the ability to get out there and try it and get comfortable with it [cycling].” To see the centre of London almost car free was surreal during the peak of the lockdowns. But for me, like many other cyclists, this was an opportunity to reclaim London's previously vehicle choked streets. So last May, I got myself a foldable bicycle, a Tern (I can recommend it) and discovered East Central Cycles, an independent bicycle shop in Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, which had one in stock. Visiting the shop, it soon became clear that the lockdown had completely changed the operation of the business. I caught up with Charlie, one of the four founders of the store, when I returned to get my bike serviced, and we grabbed a park bench for a chat. We chatted setting up the shop with four friends; competing against the big chains; hipsters and the custom bike trend; meeting the challenges of lockdown and the resurgence of cycling in London; and Charlie's favourite areas of London including exploring its backstreets. If there was ever an episode to inspire you to get out and about on two-wheels this is it. We went to the Exmouth Market office to talk to Simon and join the dots.
