We're back for the final time in August for the latest in sports media news, info and newsmakers and numerous "goodbyes" taking place for broadcasters, as part of the "LWOS Media Podcast!"Host T.J. Rives is ready to go over-The start of College Football with "Week Zero" coverage on the games in Ireland, L.A. Las Vegas and more! Is this the beginning of the end, again, for Bill Belichick at UNC? What about the other storylines and matchups this weekend and whom are calling the games on the networks, too?Next, T.J. talks about his own situation with leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers radio broadcast after 21 seasons and plays an excerpt from a Tampa Bay show/podcast that he appeared on for Tuesday to explain the "why" on his decision and most importantly, what's next? Then, it was a goodbye for ESPN's Karl Ravech after a 33 year run there, as he worked for the final time on Sunday Night Baseball from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. We play the audio and T.J. gives his thoughts. Also, the LIV Golf tour may be done for good and they signied off their final broadcast of the 2026 season and maybe ever, due to financial problems. We play and discuss that goodbye, too. And, has Netflix made mistakes and miscalculations of the interest from their audience for MLB programming, as the "Field of Dreams" game in the Iowa cornfield did very poorly in the audience numbers. What does this mean for the streaming services in the ongoing debate of them taking over for network TV?Hear it all on the "LWOS Media Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify,, etc.!

Rives welcomes back Jason Powers of the "Powers on Sports Podcast" on this week's show to go over some interesting sports media subjects. It's been a wild week for the NBA off the court, as the Lakers are being sold, AGAIN, this time 11 months later for another record $12.5 Billion or quick $2.5 Billion profit. At the beginning of this month, I got to see a bunch of my favorite bands play, three of them coming out of retirement for one day. It was a blast. The last time I got to see Unit 101 play was 26 years and 1 day ago, opening up for blink-182, Fenix Tx and Less than Jake. The last time I saw Olivia the Band was likely a Battle of the Bands at Pipeline in the early 2000's. And Potluck was just a couple years ago for the Ryan Potes Fundraiser show. But that was my first time seeing them ever (not counting the rehersals I saw at work *cheee). Area-M and Grapefruit are just so lovely as always, I think the last time I saw them was at Sailor Jerry Fest in June. What a wonderful night. The Caballerials played Audio Feed this year! That looked like a lot of fun. One of the years, gonna have to make it up for that festival *fingers crossed.  Playlist Unit 101 - 20/40//Time (Live) [0:16]  Potluck - Why (Anthology) [6:03] Olivia the Band - My Friend (EP) [9:32] Grapefruit - Change Up (Live) [12:16] The Caballerials - Legend (Waxed Curbs & Suburbs) [19:19] Social Media Website: www.takingtheleadmedia.com YouTube: Taking the Lead Media Instagram: https://instagram.com/takingtheleadmedia Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/thisisrumorcontrol/ Records Revolution: Exploring the Discography of GC Records Twitter: https://twitter.com/ttlmpodcast Tumblr: https://oneshotsideshow.tumblr.com

On the newest edtion of the show, host T.J. T.J. has more on the coverage and will CBS discipline him, etc.?Then, a much bigger, "hot button" topic is- the car crash in Palo Alto, CA, earlier this month involving San Franscisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan. The local authorites clearly covered up his involvement for over a week and the team tried to shape and control the story. But, after ESPN ultimate insider Adam Schefter reported significant injuries to Shanahan, other media began to dig out all the truth this past weekend and early this week. So, in a fascinating turn, an independent journalist in the San Fransico Bay Area named Grant Cohn started getting more facts. And, his reporting and shows led to he and other reporters getting summoneed for an audience in Shanahan's office Tuesday for him to finally tell his side of what happened. You'll hear more from Cohn in his own words on this twist in the coverage and what it means.Plus, an interesting angle is whether Scheter, Ian Rapoport and others covering the breaking news and info as "insiders" are nothing more than compromised "PR" type- personalities, who are only giving out what teams, players, agents, etc. want the public to know?T.J. has his thoughts and has more from national journalist turned host Jason Whitlock on the Shanahan story/attempted cover up and about Schefter.Enjoy it all on the "LWOS Media" Podcast and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc!

Rives is joined by outstaning columnist from SportingNews.com and college basketball hall of fame writer, Mike DeCourcy to go over it all! They start talking first about how far technology has come in communication and in work related challenges in the media business. Mike has amazing stories about how ancient the methods were in the 1980s to cover and write or talk about games was!Next, they talk tons about the ongoing World Cup:What happened to the U.S. Men's National Team Monday night in Seattle? Where and how much do we shovel blame? Also, the "star" of the team, Christain Pulisic, was basically a no-show and shouldn't there be the same criticism of him like other big stars of team sports? Mike and T.J. have thoughts on that and will the Fox audience drop off without the Americans? And, what are Mike's thoughts on whether Fox can hang onto the FIFA rights with their contract expiring and does this mean a streaming service will take over? They also discuss the current state of college hoops and the money involved with paying players legitimately through NIL and the departure of Michigan national championship coach Dusty May bolting for the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks. Is this another bad sign for the college game? It's all part of the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast" and make sure to find us on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!
