Last August, Alan Morrissey was joined by Fergal Lynch and Pat Ryan to chat about the Cycle4Des initiative. Participants travelled from Quin to Athenry, with an aim to raise funds for the oesophageal cancer fund. Carmel Doyle, the CEO of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund, will be at Clooney Quin GAA this Saturday, March 16, at 4 p.m. to accept a €53,000 cheque from Fergal Lynch, Clare Hurler, and their family in remembrance of their father Des Lynch, who passed away in September 2021. The aim of Cycle4Des is to raise money to help fight oesophageal cancer. Clare FM previously heard from Fergal Lynch, Co-organiser of the cycling fundraiser, that his own father Des passed away due to esophageal cancer. The cycle, will leave Quin, with the finish line in Athenry and is set to take place this Saturday.

The extent of the challenges posed to Clare schools by the coronavirus have been laid bare by new class size statistics. Department of Education data shows nearly a fifth of Clare's primary school students - 2,581 in total, across 32 different schools here - are in classes of at least thirty pupils. While this is ordinarilly a significant problem, it's an even bigger issue now as social distancing will be prove very difficult in those schools when they return later this year. On Monday's Morning Focus, Gavin discussed the issue with principals Donal O'hAineféin of Gaelscoil Mhichíl Chíosóg in Ennis, and Fergal Lynch of Scoil na Mainstreach in Quin.

Only one place to start on this week's Talk A Good Game podcast as Meath booked their place in the Leinster SFC final for the first time since 2014 with a resounding 3-13 to 0-11 semi-final win over Laois at Croke Park last Sunday. After Sunday's match Meath boss Andy McEntee spoke to the assembled media, while Fergal Lynch caught up with Ronan Ryan and Jimmy Geoghegan spoke to Bryan McMahon deep in the belly of the Cusack Stand.
