Even by Scottish football standards it's been a busy few days, and Adam's joined by three guests to make sense of it. Joining him for the bulk of the show are journalists Amy Canavan and Jason Soutar. Amy, who last year was nominated for Football Writers Association Student Football Writer of the Year award, is a regular on the A Celtic State Of Mind podcast as well as presenting the Soccer Supernova podcast, commentating on the SWPL for BBC Scotland, writing for BBC Scotland the The Celtic Way and working as a media officer for Lowland League side Bonnyrigg Rose. She tells Adam about her new football documentary, what Ange Postecoglou got right against Rangers, Celtic's successful January window, hostility directed at Celtic podcasters and her appearances on a certain Rangers Twitter account. As a fan of both Rangers and Arsenal, few are in a better position than Football365 writer Jason to discuss Aaron Ramsey's arrival at Ibrox. He also discusses a ridiculous Borna Barisic performance, where it went wrong for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Celtic Park, where it went right for Kieran Tierney at the Emirates, the most memorable story he's covered, the dysfunctional retro sportswear brand that is Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's bizarre deadline day family holiday. Raith Rovers supporter and Women's Officer for the Perth & Kinross Constituency Labour Party explains why she's deeply unimpressed with her club as Adam takes an in-depth look at a shameful few days in Kirkcaldy. He also asks his guests to help him debunk a myth involving a confused Dundee signing, puts questions to them from Twitter, sets them a tricky Aaron Ramsey quiz question and shares a staunch musical pun from the Scottish Cup archives. The governing bodies and authority figures have decided to ban goal celebrations where players touch each other. Why? Well, Covid of course. But does that even make any logical sense? Is stopping a celebration doing anything except virtue signalling and posturing? I don't think so, and neither does John Nicholson of Football365.com. On Sunday, Tottenham managed to pull off an unlikely victory over Manchester City, putting them in prime position to break into the top four of the Premier League. But although they won, the chasm between the two teams was notable. It is now three months since Jose Mourinho came into the club. But do Spurs really look like a team who are taking the next step? In this episode, we cast an eye over goings-on at new White Hart Lane and ask: are Spurs stuck in the past? We're joined by Nathan Clark (@NathanAClark), an analyst working in media and football and Seb Stafford-Bloor (@SebSB),a journalist whose work can primarily be found at Tifo Football, FourFourTwo and Football365. For our latest episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re looking back at that thrilling 1953 FA Cup final contested by Blackpool and Bolton: ‘The Stanley Matthews Final’. Joining us is Seb Stafford-Bloor, a writer for Football365 and Four Four Two magazine, as well as a content editor of Tifo Football. This final was a hugely significant moment in British football history. As it was the first final to be broadcast live on the BBC, the match was watched by a huge, unprecedented audience from all over the country. It also took place around the time that football was just beginning to be considered as the true ‘game of the people’ and still remains the only final where a hat-trick was scored. Seb, Jonathan and Marcus sit down and recount the rudimentary tactics and goalkeeping errors that led this match to be one of the most thrilling cup finals ever played. For more stories from the annals of football history, visit www.theblizzard.co.uk to explore their archives that contain over 700 articles of stories just like this one!Fancy getting in touch? Today, we’re as far North as we’ll get in this series. Newcastle has a famous footballing pedigree which is why the slow decline of the club in the last ten years has been all the more painful to watch. Owned by arch capitalist and almost universally despised Mike Ashley, the club has been run as a cash cow for a number of years with the owner doing just enough to milk it for profit. Fans could hardly believe their luck when they managed to accrue the talents of Rafael Benitez and then keep him even after relegation into the Championship. But even that silver lining was duly ripped out and sold for monies. Now, fans of the club face the prospect of a season under Steve Bruce, whose career win total is close to tipping beneath his career loss total. If things go as well as many pundits predict, then it could well happen this season. So here we are. A beleaguered fan base. A manager who does not look up to the rigours of Premier League life. And a squad that leaves a lot to be desired. It could be a long season on Tyneside. Joining us on the show today is a well-known face in the world of Newcastle United fandom: Harry De Cosemo. Harry covers Newcastle and North East football for the Morning Star newspaper and is also a freelance writer for Football365, Planet Football and Eurosport among others.
