Last season The Cobblers claimed a memorable victory up at Blackpool and will be looking for a similar result this weekend. Blackpool's season has not been one to remember for The Seasiders so far. Simeon Gholam is joined by Curtis Davies and David Stowell for the League One & Two Review on the Essential EFL podcast. The panel take a look at the flying start made by Birmingham in League One, and the starts made by Wrexham and Lincoln near the top of the table.Davies then assesses the fine start made by his former boss Steve Bruce at Blackpool, before analysing the poor start of Cambridge United, improving Bolton and the continuing strife at Reading.Onto League Two in part two and the pacesetters Gillingham and their flying start, an impressive opening to the campaign for Walsall, the pitch problems at AFC Wimbledon and the struggles of the bottom two Accrington and Morecambe. Davies then looks at his former club Cheltenham and how they've coped on their return to the fourth tier.
After all the criticism over the summer, Chelsea are having a lovely time right now. Sure, Barrow are a League Two side (top of League Two though…) but a 5-0 win will boost the confidence of all concerned. They go through to the next round along with Man City, Aston Villa and Leicester. Real Madrid spent 85 minutes making their critics eat their words and then switched off, allowing Alaves to come from three goals down to pushing hard for the most unlikely of equalisers. Carlo Ancelotti looked distinctly unamused. And finally, Blackpool beat Huddersfield 3-0. We didn't have room for it in the show, but wanted to pay tribute to Steve Bruce somewhere. That's three wins from three for the former Newcastle boss. Need something to read? Matt Slater and Paddy Boyland have broken down the Everton takeover news with a very accessible explainer article that gives you the information you need so that you can pass it off as your own in the pub. Behold the new Nations League! Come on, it actually sounds like it might be fun. And anything's better than an interminable stream of friendlies, right? The new structure means that every position in the group means something different, which means that there will be something on the line in every match. And that's got to be good. Tomas Hill Lopez Marcheno drops in to let us know if Spain are still likely to steamroller everyone. Plus, Steve Bruce is back! But is he ready for League One? If you walk into Johnson Podiatry in Stratford, PEI, you might assume you're walking into the business of a foot doctor. But Doctor Johnson is facing allegations that he's not actually a doctor of podiatry. A national podiatry group says it points to the need for regulations in jurisdictions that don't regulate the profession, that includes Newfoundland and Labrador. The CBC's Steve Bruce has been looking into these allegations.

What will it take for Man United to beat Man City in this weekend's FA Cup final? Computer hacking? Marcus, Vish, Jim and Pete genuinely have no answers on today's Ramble. Everyone's favourite Mum and son duo, West Bromwich Albion correspondent's Gemma and Harrison Eno, join James for a catch up on what's been happening at The Hawthorns over the last 18 months and discuss the current race for promotion from The Championship. The Baggies are currently 5th and though automatic promotion looks out of reach they are performing well under the much liked Carlos Corberan and are highly likely to compete for promotion in the Play-Offs. But is hasn't always looked so positive for the club in recent times. There's reflection on the tenure's of Valerien Ismael and Steve Bruce and discussion on the concerning ownership problems under Guochuan Lai, but again there's positivity following the purchase of the club by Shilen Patel. The quality of the squad is assessed, would it be Premier League ready considering its recent financial concerns and there's chat on the frontrunners for automatic promotion. Plus, there's chat on the unsavoury scenes seen at The Hawthorns in January, when the FA Cup tie with Wolves was suspended for 30 minutes due to crowd disturbances. For perhaps the final time, Roy Hodgson leaves the managerial arena. And what more fitting tribute to his career than being mentioned in the same breath as Steve Bruce hustling for the South Korea job, eh?Pete and Andy react to a night at Goodison Park that was somehow both open and cagey as Everton and Crystal Palace split the points! Elsewhere, Andy reveals why Oliver Glasner could get Palace challenging for Europe in the long-term and they discuss whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin's finishing will ever catch up with his looks again. Plus, there really are more horrendous managerial links than you can shake a stick at – including Bayern Munich sniffing around for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. That's right, Ole Gunnar Bloody Solskjaer. Wayne Rooney lasted longer than the cabbage. And at least he didn't have one thrown at him like Steve Bruce.Marcus, Luke, Andy and Vish discuss the exit of Luke Littler's younger brother from Birmingham City and just why useful-FIFA-Committee-idiot-in-waiting Garry Cook appointed him in the first place. We also ponder West Ham fans' split on Davide Moyes and – in totally normal news – Gianluigi Buffon wants goals to be made bigger and the Argentina FA retire the men's national team number 10 shirt.
