It's been a busy fortnight of international football for Wales. The women put their 2027 World Cup campaign back on track with convincing win over the Czech Republic to claim top spot in their group. But that's just the beginning of a long road to Brazil. Meanwhile, there was little to celebrate as far as the men are concerned, following a draw and a defeat in two friendly games. The mood was completely difference 10 year ago, of course. And on the anniversary of the 2-1 win over Slovakia in Euro 2016, Carl (fan), Iwan (commentator) and Sam (player) take a trip down memory lane to remember the momentous day in Bordeaux. And as the World Cup gets underway without Wales in North America, the team attempt to whip up some enthusiasm for the event - and pick a winner.
Support us: buymeacoffee.com/colemansdream The first episode of our anniversary series, looking back at the glorious summer of 2016. Wales kicked off the summer of our lives with a fine win in Bordeaux. It could have all been so different if it wasn't for Ben Davies... Big thanks to our special guest, Rob, Laura and Gareth. We appreciate your contributions. Keep an eye out for our next pod on June 16th, as Cymru take on England.
fWotD Episode 3324: UEFA Euro 2016 final Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 11 June 2026, is UEFA Euro 2016 final. The UEFA Euro 2016 final was the final match of UEFA Euro 2016, the fifteenth edition of the European Championship, UEFA's quadrennial competition for national football teams. The match was played at the Stade de France in Paris, France, on 10 July 2016, and was contested between Portugal and hosts France. The 24-team tournament began with a group stage, from which 16 teams qualified for the knockout stage. En route to the final, Portugal finished third in Group F, with draws against Iceland, Austria and Hungary. Portugal then defeated Croatia in the last 16, Poland in the quarter-finals after a penalty shoot-out, and progressed to the final after beating Wales 2–0 in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, France finished as winners of Group A, beating Romania and Albania before drawing with Switzerland. In the knockout stage, France defeated the Republic of Ireland in the last 16, Iceland in the quarter-finals, and progressed to the final after beating Germany 2–0 in the semi-finals.The final took place in front of 75,868 spectators, and was refereed by English official Mark Clattenburg. Following a goalless 90 minutes which saw Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo depart the match through injury, Portugal then took the lead in the 108th minute through substitute Eder, after his low shot from 25 yards (23 m) beat France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. This would prove to be the contest's only goal, as Portugal won 1–0 to claim their first major tournament title. In winning the final, Portugal became the tenth different nation to win the European Championship, twelve years after losing their first final, at home in the 2004 tournament. France became the second host team to lose the final, after Portugal, and suffered their first defeat at a major tournament hosted in the country since the 1960 European Nations' Cup third-place play-off against Czechoslovakia. This was the fifth European Championship final to end in a draw after 90 minutes of play, and the second whose winners were decided by extra time, after the inaugural final in 1960. As the winners, Portugal gained entry into their first FIFA Confederations Cup, which was played in Russia in 2017.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:52 UTC on Thursday, 11 June 2026.For the full current version of the article, see UEFA Euro 2016 final on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Arthur.

I'm half-Welsh. My dad hails from cwmbran. And so presenting on Sky Sports News as Wales wound their way in magical fashion to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 is a treasured memory. A special summer - counterbalanced by the fact that I'm half-English and Wayne's Rooney's Three Lions were dumped out by Iceland in ignominious fashion. Ouch. That still hurts. But it was also a special time for the country Wales knocked out in the last-16 stage: Northern Ireland. It was their first and only, to date, time at The European Championship. Paul Gilmour was a firsthand bystander to the squad's exploits in qualifying and then in the tournament itself in France. He was the dedicated team reporter for Sky Sports News. It would have been a memorable assignment for any football person. But particularly poignant for Paul who hails from Northern Ireland. He wasn't born when his country qualified for the 1958 and 1982 World Cups. He was barely born when they made the World Cup in Mexico in 86. But in 2016 he was front and centre to cover a joyous time for his country. The team won only one of four games played in the tournament but made indelible memories, particularly the cacophonous singing of ‘Will Grigg is on fire!” Even though Grigg didn't get on the pitch during Euro 2016! It's a classic old school soccer story. But a very human one too. Hello and welcome to this latest solo episode, where I combine my week in Portland with some stories from my time at Euro 2016 in France in honour of the current Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. The first half covers my first-ever event at TravelCon with an excellent summary of my fabulous time meeting great people, listening to inspiring creators, attending fantastic events and seeing some fellow podcasters. The bulk of the first half is my favourite things to do in Portland, such as activities, coffee and food, with some extra tips chucked in, too.The second half is more about sports travel and my time in Paris, France, with my friends for Euro 2016, with some funny anecdotes to go with my passionate rant about sports travel. Mostly drunken exploits of running up dry mud slopes, falling asleep on the toilet, avoiding a warzone in Marseille and being a local in Paris. Wales and Wycombe Wanderers striker Sam Vokes joins talkSPORT's Laurence Mora and host Geraint Hardy as we look back at the weekend's international football. Wales suffered a 4-0 drubbing in Slovakia and a bore draw in Gibraltar leading many to heap the pressure on Rob Page. Vokes and Mora answer the burning questions, should Page stay or go and is this really a transitional period for Wales? The Wycombe striker also looks ahead to facing Wrexham next season and, with the Euros set to start, he reminices back to that header against Belgium in 2016.

Today's episode looks back at a monster Home Nations clash from Euro 2016, where England looked to bring a bit of joy to fans during the worst year in human history.Six years after the Three Lions had knocked Wales down to 117th in the Fifa rankings, The Dragons had undergone a major reset and came into the tournament in the top 10, sitting pretty above their opponents for today's game.Roy Hodgson found himself in the England hot-seat after a sub-par World Cup two years previous, but had the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Leicester's Premier League winning hero Jamie Vardy to call upon.In the Red corner, Wales felt unstoppable with Galactico Gareth Bale leading the charge. This Group Stage match was set up to be a true test for both sides and an indicator of how each's tournament would unfold.Let the games begin! What a treat this was. Simon really lifted the lid on what it was REALLY like to be a professional footballer, brutally honest about having to retire with injuries in his prime, and THAT trip to the Euro's in 2016. I'd say injuries robbed him of his best years and moments, but looking at him smiling all the way through this podcast means I'd 100% be wrong Thanks always Manscaped.com, Dragon Signs, Motazone UK and Tiny Rebel Brewery

And Gabriel Gatehouse hums the theme tune from 'The Great Escape' while considering departures in his essay about the EU referendum and the Euro2016 football tournament in France
