Want to try building a nest? Consider this... an average American Robin weighs less than three ounces. An average person weighs 170 pounds, or 1,000 times as much as a robin. A robin's nest, made of grass and mud, weighs about seven ounces, so yours will weigh 450 pounds. You'll need to collect about 350 strands of grass, each about four feet long. And don't forget the mud: 150 pounds of it. You have five days to complete the job. That's 300 mouthfuls of mud.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org.Want more BirdNote? In this episode we break from a week-long adventure in the Eastern Cape to celebrate a successful bow hunt. The jokes roll thick as backstraps and wild game sausage sizzle on a flat-stone locally called an Yster Klip, which literally translates to 'Iron Stone'. — sound quality took a bit of beating early on in this episode, if you're over the sound of sizzling meat then jump to about 35 mins in —Cooking over fire is a huge part of South African culture, this episode gives an lighthearted insight into a backbone activity of the nation. Patch, Matt and Bond... Ben Bond walk through a massive 3 points at Ashton Gate
We've hit a low ebb. The show which won Best Entertainment Podcast at the British Podcast Awards just a few years ago is dredging the bottom of the barrel. That new low being production staff researching their credit scores ‘live' on the show. Throw in a chat with an expert on credit ratings and it's a wall to wall credit ball. And at such an ebb one would have thought it would lift the mood of Robins. This is him. Distilled Robins. But no. Rather, it's broken him, because Dave has a 999 credit score without even having a credit card. Something which he simply cannot recover from. And this has affected the mood. What ensues is a breakdown. A breakdown over being unable to nudge the needle from 999 to 1000. And a breakdown over autofilling card details on a laptop. And that's not the end of it as we see the dangers of a John with access to a credit expert on demand. Somebody break glass for a kilo of Dairy Milk to save us for the Tuesday episode record.Do you have something thrilling to add to this enthralling credit chat? The chances are remote but it's elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk or 07974 293 022 on WhatsApp if you want to subject the production staff to some light reading.

When glaciers pushed south into what is now the U.S. around 20,000 years ago, they scraped off the soil layer and spelled the end of native earthworms except in the southern states. So the earthworm plucked by the robin in the park or on your lawn is probably a relatively new arrival, most likely a species Europeans conveyed to the Americas in plant soil or the ballast of ships.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. It was a pivotal moment Brian Robbins tells us he'll never forget: stepping onto a makeshift stage to address some 400 employees just minutes before a key 8-K filing would publicly announce the potential sale of a major business unit. The room bristled with anxiety—people worried about their jobs and the future of the company. Robbins recalls that, instead of relying on scripted talking points, he spoke from the heart and vowed to keep everyone informed as events unfolded. By offering that openness, he reinforced his belief that finance isn't just about numbers, but about building trust and forging a clear path forward.Today, that spirit of transparent communication fuels Robbins's approach as CFO. Above all, he prioritizes strong relationships across every organizational function, from sales and marketing to product and engineering. This is why go-to-market execution, he explains, has become the centerpiece of his strategic leadership. Robbins embeds dedicated finance professionals alongside revenue-focused teams, helping to fine-tune territory splits, refine pricing, and calibrate product positioning based on real-time data. Palin, Chalmers, Livingstone… Robins(?!). Yes, gliding into the show today is one of Britain's greatest travellers. An adventurer unequalled in the 21st century. Because John has been on his once per 9 months short haul trip. Naples has experienced Robins, and he it. With such pizza consumption and the undoubted oscillation between ‘hungry' and ‘full', Elis struggles to believe that he can actually have been a laugh there. But filled with more pies than than all the ninja turtles combined, Robins has a pep in his step for what proves to be a Billy Belter of a show. The boys dig into the practicalities of 007 if he flew Ryanair and there's a classic double whammy of a Shame.Plus, there's something new bursting through the pipes. No it's not potable tap water or natural gas, but something far more important to John's existence: wins.Want to drop us a line? Well elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk and 07974 293 022 on WhatsApp are the media of choice.

In this episode of The Shabby Detective, Mike and Chris take a diplomatic detour into A Case of Immunity, where political protocol, palace intrigue, and murder collide. Columbo finds himself navigating foreign immunity laws and velvet robes as he tries to outwit a slippery embassy official (Héctor Elizondo) with a taste for treason. The guys break down the episode's unique tone, the curious case of Sal Mineo, and the appearance of Jeff Goldblum.
People often say that spring “bursts” forth. But this seasonal change isn't like flipping a switch. It's more like a series of waves breaking slowly. Robins and bluebirds return north in March. During April, more songbirds migrate north from the tropics, adding to spring's growing chorus. As late as June, birds like Willow Flycatchers and Mourning Warblers arrive from South America. By this time, those early robins may be feeding their second brood. For them, spring has been bursting for over three months.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? As a dedicated professional intuitive, she has spent years honing her ability to connect deeply with energies and emotions that shape our experiences. Her journey into this realm began at a very young age, she was gifted with the ability to perceive things that others often overlooked. Her heightened sensitivity allowed her to see beyond the surface, but as she grew older, she felt pressure to suppress her gift to avoid being labeled as "weird". This internal conflict led to a lifelong struggle with severe anxiety, culminating in a period where she was committed to an institution and heavily medicated for 4 years. Despite her efforts to find relief, she felt trapped and hopeless, and it came to a point where she was ready to end her life. In a miraculous turn of events, she discovered hypnotherapy which profoundly changed the course of her life. This transformative experience not only helped her reclaim her mental well-being but also reignited her connection and intuitive gifts. Today, as a professional intuitive and shadow work practitioner, she is devoted to helping others navigate their own journeys of self-discovery and healing. By blending intuitive insights with the principles of shadow work, Stephanie creates a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their inner fears, and embrace their authentic nature. Her mission is to empower individuals to trust their intuition, heal from past traumas, and cultivate a life filled with purpose and joy. Together, you will uncover the insights that will guide you toward a brighter, and more magical future. Connect with Stephanie on Instagram: @stephrobins3
