This is Ollie Watkins reflecting on a journey that very few footballers ever experience - opening up on going from League Two and non-league football to scoring one of England's biggest goals in recent history. Chilling with Rio in his Airbnb, Watkins reveals why he still thinks about those early days every time he walks out for Aston Villa in the Champions League.Despite becoming one of the Premier League's most consistent forwards, Watkins remains hugely grounded throughout this conversation - discussing the impatience that drove him early in his career, the responsibility he felt during Steven Gerrard's time at Aston Villa and why Unai Emery completely changed the standards and mentality within the squad. There's fascinating insight into the mentality of elite strikers too, including why Erling Haaland's role is “so difficult”, how studying Ruud van Nistelrooy helped develop his instincts inside the box and why Harry Kane's leadership is more about standards than shouting.Watkins also explains the challenge of being used as an impact substitute for England and reveals the voice note he sent to friends before his huge semi-final goal after growing frustrated on the bench. The pair also discuss Thomas Tuchel's arrival as England manager, why the squad are already buying into his demand for more arrogance and confidence, and how nobody in the camp can beat him at table tennis. Plus brilliant stories and insight on Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, Morgan Rogers, Phil Foden and why Watkins believes criticism of Gareth Southgate was completely unfair. There's also a brilliant look into dressing room culture and player personalities - from fashion disasters in the France squad and ping-pong battles at England camp to why Michael Owen's advice means more than anybody else's and the underrated qualities that make Ezri Konsa such a difficult defender to play against.Brought to you in partnership with Airbnb #ad Hosted on Acast. Manchester City rested some of their in-form players for the visit of Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, but had no trouble dispatching the Eagles before Saturday's FA Cup final. Phil Foden dazzled with two assists as City overtook Arsenal's goal difference, giving them the edge in the title race IF the Gunners draw with Burnley at the weekend. Elsewhere, Oliver Glasner has been clapping back at rumours he might rest his best players on the Premier League final day when his side take on Arsenal in his final game, claiming he hasn't received a cheque from either Mikel Arteta or Pep Guardiola's bosses. Arne Slot might have been joining Glasner at the job centre after rumours of his exit grew stronger recently, but the Reds boss insists he's staying on, adding fuel to the fire of the links between Xabi Alonso and Chelsea. Fiery Fridays are BACK and in today's episode, Adrian Durham gets straight into it and congratulates Phil Foden on his retirement! Despite being just 25-years-old, Adrian can't fathom why the Man City midfielder has signed a new four-year contract at the club when he can't get a run in the team, and thinks he should join a newly promoted side instead. Interestingly, there wasn't too much push back from Alex Crook and Angelina Kelly - which might highlight Foden's struggles right now. Speaking of Crooky, and he's parked his tanks on the lawn of Anthony Gordon - who he believes Newcastle should cash in on right now. Meanwhile, Angelina has focused on Myles Lewis-Skelly's move into midfield and believes he should partner Declan Rice in midfield - not for Arsenal, but for England! As you know by now, every Friday is all about bold opinions, strong feelings, and arguments just waiting to happen. As the week winds down, we're turning the heat all the way up… that's another three HUGE opinions… no sitting on the fence… and absolutely no fear of things getting a little heated. After City stumbled at Everton, the big question of how problematic it was to their title ambitions could get an answer this week. David Mooney is joined by The Daily Mail's Jack Gaughan and, from StatCity.co.uk, Adam Carter to discuss the performance and what went wrong in a mad 13-minute spell at the Hill Dickinson. With Brentford up next, we hear from Mike Johnston from The Ealing Road podcast to find out how their chase for European football is going. And, after that, it's that re-arranged game with Crystal Palace... following on from Arsenal's trip to West Ham. When all those games have been played, we should have a clearer idea of how realistic it is for City to reclaim the crown. The rumours about Pep Guardiola's future have been gaining momentum for a while, now, too. On today's show, we take a look at everything that he has said about it this season and where the stories have come from. Plus, Phil Foden's signed a brand new deal, Jeremy Doku's whacked a couple of excellent edge-of-the-box strikes in, and there's been more heavy tackles on City players that have gone unpunished. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Craig Hope, Miguel Delaney and Jack Rosser to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We begin with an historic day at the Emirates, where league leaders Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Everton, with late goals from Gyokeres and 16-year-old rising star Max Dowman, who became the youngest Premier League goal-scorer. Nine points clear and seven games remaining: can Manchester City still mount a comeback?Staying on the topic of rising stars, 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli claimed victory at the Shanghai Grand Prix from pole position for Mercedes, making him the second youngest driver ever to win a race, after Max Verstappen. Then it's on to a damaging result for Manchester City, as a 1–1 draw with West Ham deals a major blow to their title hopes and leaves Pep Guardiola's side with serious ground to make up on Arsenal. Craig looks at the dip in form from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, while Miguel asks if the spotlight should fall on the manager instead. And for West Ham, Nuno's side are finding form at exactly the right moment in their relegation battle. Miguel is confident they'll survive — but is he right to say “West Ham will definitely stay up?”Next, we head to Stamford Bridge, where referee Paul Tierney found himself bizarrely caught in the middle of a Chelsea player huddle. Liam Rosenior later claimed it was because his players were “respecting the ball.” Jack admits they struggled not to laugh, while Craig labels the whole thing immature. We wrap up with Newcastle, who secured a 1-0 away win against Chelsea. Despite six changes since midweek's Barcelona clash and the absence of Sandro Tonali, Craig hails Howe's side for a “dogged and determined” performance. With an impressive performance down the middle, we also ask: could Anthony Gordon be England's number 9 at the World Cup?Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. On the latest edition of Caught Offside... Welp, it happened. Earlier this season, Andrew said that Tottenham couldn't break him this year and the club promptly responded by saying "Oh yeah? Watch this." We discuss the current state of Spurs as they now sit just 1 point above the drop with 9 games to play. Could this really happen and where on earth do we point the finger of blame? Then, it's over to Arsenal where the Gunners pad their lead thanks to a pretty dour 1-0 win over Brighton. We share our thoughts on Fabian Hürzeler's post match comments and wonder if Arsenal fans care about how the rest of the league views them. We'll also break down Chelsea's convincing win over Villa, their center circle meet-ups, Phil Foden's poor form and Carrick's first slip up.And finally, we're joined by Apple TV MLS Commentator Evan Weston for a chat on some early season thoughts in MLS. David Mooney is joined by The Sun's Martin Blackburn and, from the City Ramble podcast, Amos Murphy to look back over the win at Leeds and the draw with Nottingham Forest. Where have the results left Manchester City in the title race? But have the performances still be trending in the right direction, even if there's been a bit of a knock to the system? After the break to allow the Muslim players to break their Ramandan fast on Saturday, we've spoken to Seemo from City's first Muslim supporters club, Blue Crescent OSC, to get his thoughts on the situation and his experience of what it was like to break his fast in the away end at Elland Road. City against Real Madrid is now the second-most played Champions League tie of all time, so we've had journalist Tom Green look at the numbers behind the meetings. Plus we hear from Madrid fan Oscar Garcia to find out how things are going in the Spanish capital, as we preview the tricky trips to Newcastle and Real. Plus, what's up with Phil Foden's form at the moment, what are the best passes played that you never saw coming, and who are City's irreplaceable players from the past? Oh... Rob Jones is joined by Jacqui Oatley, Jonathan Northcroft and Julien Laurens to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We kick off with Newcastle's 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup. Is Jonathan harsh to suggest the refereeing decisions in this game were some of the worst you'll see? Next to Murrayfield, where a rejuvenated Scotland swept England aside with a 31-20 Calcutta Cup win, leaving any grand slam hopes for Steve Borthwick's side gone. Also, we look at Manchester City's 2–0 win over Salford, and we assess Phil Foden's performance, considering whether he's done enough to secure his place in the World Cup squad this summer. Then, Nottingham Forest: four managers in one season. Is it right to overlook him for the armband this week? The visitors have an awful record against City. And City have agreat five fixtures starting now. All the key FPL assets covered including Guehi, O'Reillly, Semenyo, Anderson, Wilson and Jimenez. Plus, what's happened (again) to Phil Foden and what might we expect from Fulham's signing form this weeks opponents, Oscar Bobb? What a game at Anfield as Manchester City come from behind to reignite the Premier League title race. Arsenal still lead the Citizens by six points with 13 games to play, who's going to win the Premier League? With Manchester United winning four in a row under Michael Carrick and able to focus solely on the league, how far can they climb the table? Could they yet force their way into the race? Gary, Alan and Micah also get stuck into Thomas Tuchel's growing selection dilemmas. Is Morgan Rogers now ahead of the injured Jude Bellingham? Who gets the nod between Bukayo Saka and hat-trick hero Cole Palmer? And is Phil Foden in real danger of missing out after being left as an unused substitute by Pep Guardiola against Liverpool? FPL managers were left shocked to see popular picks like Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Hugo Ekitike on the bench in Gameweek 23, while other, less well-owned players racked up the points
On the review of the weekend football Suj and James reflect on yet another Gameweek where FPL points were hard to find and it all began before deadline with leaks that Erling Haaland and Phil Foden would not start for Manchester City. Trouble was, that for those who has the info, a change in captaincy didn't necessarily bring reward. So, with Mo Salah back, is dropping Haaland a genuine consideration? Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Chelsea all won and will have interest in their assets, and so too will Manchester United assets following their win at league leaders Arsenal. There was more frustration for James as Tottenham failed to win (and nearly lost at Burnley), but Suj's West Ham did make it back to back wins, trouble was Nottingham Forest one too. All the games and all the key FPL talking points covered. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss the latest at their clubs and preview Saturday's meeting between the clubs at The City Ground. There's reflection on Ange Postecoglu's time at Forest and if Sean Dyche can steer them clear of relegation as most seem to expect he will. While City are on a great run having won 10 of their last 12 in the league and have got themselves back into title contention. There's plenty of FPL chat too, featuring if Erling Haaland should be taken on with the armband, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki, Matheus Nunes v Nico O'Reilly, if 4.0 John Victor is now Forest's number one, Elliott Anderson, 0.1% owned Omari Hutchinson and more... Check out the Blue Moon Podcast Annual 2026: https://www.patreon.com/collection/1882955 ========== Another pair of victories, as Manchester City put in perhaps their most controlled and dominant performance of the season against Sunderland... and then had to dig in and get the job done at Real Madrid. David Mooney is joined by City fan Ciaran Murray and, from the Daily Mail, Jack Gaughan to discuss both of those matches. Dan Burke is on the show looking at Phil Foden's return to form and hearing what both the player and his manager said about the tough times he endured in the last 12-18 months.
