Welcome to Episode 11 of the Tales from The Lane podcast. Today, we are joined by violinist Jessica Stinson, and we're talking about taking back control of our careers and making it look the way WE want it to look.  In Jessica's case, that was to play the Atlanta-based gigs that she loved the most, to teach at the university level, and to be a part of a string quartet that was making an actual difference in both the music industry, and in larger, more important arenas as well.  Hailed by both The State and Free Times as a “thrilling and spectacular” performer with “remarkably mature musicianship.” Jessica currently serves as Acting Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and also performs with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra.  A graduate of The University of South Carolina and Rice University, Jessica is a co-founder of Mosaic Quartet, an ensemble devoted to representing those who are marginalized in the classical music field, and serves on the faculty of the Georgia State University School of Music. Jessica has been working with me since February 2022, when she knew her heart would burst if she didn't get this dream chamber ensemble off the ground.  She did just that, and then some! So go ahead and grab your favorite beverage, find a cozy spot, and let's dive in!    Follow Jessica on IG @jstinsonviolin and Learn more about Mosaic Quartet at  https://www.mosaicquartet.org/ If you enjoyed today's episode, please subscribe, rate, & review, and don't forget to share it with your friends!  Want more Tales From The Lane content? It was just one year ago that I first interviewed singer-songwriter Dany Horovitz and it was such a blast I figured “Let's do it again!”   So here we are, recording one year exactly from the date the last interview dropped and so much has happened. Earlier this year he released a new EP, “The Candle is Worth the Game,” and since then he's dropped the singles “Don't Look to Me” and “Sorry From the Road,” both of which will be on his next album, “Phanerorhyme,” named in part for mind-altering drugs. Yeah, you can bet I ask what that's all about.   Along with the new album, Dany and I spend some time talking about the new sounds and instrumentation he's explored while recording the new tracks. We go into the folks he's worked with, what they've brought to the table and the amazing music that's come from it. His debut album “Free Times” was released a little over a year ago and we talk about how he's grown as an artist.   Afterward, kick back and enjoy “Sorry From the Road” and “It's No Use Trying to Change Me.” If you've heard some of his earlier work, you're gonna like the new paths he walks with these.

BONUS TRACK: Leezy talks about her battle with addiction and how it inspired “Sierra”   Singer-songwriter Dany Horovitz is back, and he has some big news to share. His debut album “Free Times” is now available! Dany joined me last fall to talk about his singles “Seasons Change” and “Moving On,” and along with these two songs, the album features another eight with an array of sounds and tales.   Dany and I talk about the response the album has seen from fans and music journalists in Canada, where he lives. He shares his poetry and how it ties into his music as well as the real-life connection behind the songs. Dany worked with some amazing people in bringing this album to life and he talked about the process. In addition to the album, a music video release for his song “Scar” was released and we go into how the two mesh.   Following our discussion, enjoy “Scar,” one of my faveorite tracks from the album.     And in the second interview, Chicago-based artist Leezy dives into “Sierra,” a new single that takes us through her battle with addiction when she was 18. Leezy talks about how it all began and the work she put in to become sober a year later. Leezy's mother inspired the song, and was a pillar for the young artist as she sought treatment, and even had a brief role in the music video for “Sierra.”   As the episode comes to a close, check out “Sierra,” which shifts from a mellow tune to a rock-themed sound, matching the artist's battle.

We're super excited this week to have George Fetner of George Fetner & The Strays' as our guest on No Simple Road. “There's a lot you could say about the varied pursuits of guitarist/bandleader/composer George Fetner. But the most pressing takeaway here is that he and his merry band of pranksters in the Strays can burn down a stage with glee - less of a jam band than an omnivorous, chops-heavy rock outfit whose eclecticism is presented with uncommon acuity. Expect a blaze of a set from a group that knows just when to sprawl out and, conversely, when to make a sharp left turn” - Free Times, 10/2019 Columbia, SC's George Fetner and the Strays have steadily gained attention from music-lovers and musicians alike. Culling influences from nine proficient performers, the band has developed a soulful, southern sound rooted in rhythm and blues, improvisatory rock, and captivating musical left turns. We catch up with George and talk about making a return to the stage after the hiatus of the last couple of years, how the feeling of playing live has changed and how that spills over into the day-to-day, why it is important to remind ourselves of the communal aspect of music, and much more! For GFATS (George Fetner & The Strays) news, tour info, videos, and more head over to: www.gfats.comSONG AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INTERVIEW: 'Viola Lee Blues' off the album 'Merry Run Around'SONG AT THE END OF THE INTERVIEW: 'Scarlet Begonias' off the alMake sure to hang out after the interview with George to catch up with the No Simple Road crew!NEW!!!
