This episode of the Confessions of a Hashtag Beauty Boss podcast reflects on the transition from the year of the snake to the year of the horse, emphasizing the importance of taking control and moving forward with energy and symbolism. Angela Dickson discusses the significance of visibility and momentum for your beauty business in 2026, encouraging listeners to embrace change and take the reins in the new year. Takeaways Reflect on the transition from the year of the snake to the year of the horse. Embrace the energy and symbolism of the year of the horse. Visibility in 2026 is not just helpful, it's essential. Momentum is rewarded in the year of the horse. 2026 asks if you are willing to take the reins. The year of the horse is fast, bold, and expansive. Move smarter, faster, and more decisively in 2026. Visibility will be essential, not just a trend. Stay bold, stay visible, and keep showing up. Take control and embrace change in the new year.

Quand consulter ? In this episode of Broker Daily Spotlight, host Liam Garman sits down with Mitchell Chadevski, general manager of Renown Lending, to break down how private lenders are filling the widening gap as major banks tighten lending policies. Chadevski explains why non-banks aren't constrained by strict debt-to-income caps or rigid serviceability rules, instead structuring deals around assets, timelines, and purpose. The discussion also digs into what borrowers should look for in a non-bank lender, with Chadevski stressing the importance of transparency, track record, and clear communication to avoid operators who over-promise or charge upfront fees with no intention to fund. For SMEs, developers, and investors, Chadevski highlights why being "finance ready", with clean documentation, proactive planning, and early conversations, is key to unlocking opportunities.

"Wait For Fire Burning" Formed in Oakland in 1985, Legal Reins were comprised of singer/guitarist Danny Benatar, bassist Eden Unger and drummer Tim Freund. They tore up the Bay Area scene, playing show after show and cementing themselves as one of the best live bands around. This is a band who did the work, got in the reps and eclipsed the Gladwellian idea of 10,000 hours. Opening for everyone from Madness to Killing Joke, Legal Reins proved themselves time and again that they could step on any stage and match anyone in terms of power and heart. Their exhilarating blend of sweeping pop epics and punchy hook laden rock and roll brought to mind everyone from The Sound to Echo and the Bunnymen to the Waterboys. After a bit of a bidding war, they signed to Arista in 1987, put out their debut album Please, The Pleasure soon after and then? Well, then things turned the other way. I'm going to let Tim tell you the story, but let me say this: In 1986 I was the music director of KVHS, an all-metal station located conveniently on my high school campus. I was in the habit of sneaking in The Smiths and The Chameleons in between Accept and Venom just to see if anyone noticed--they did, by the way. It was slightly terrifying to be 16 and getting death threats for not playing King Diamond, but I digress. Legal Reins called me up and they were very kind and I loved their music and one time I played them in between Y&T and Armored Saint and this one guy called up and said, very aggressively, Who was that you played after Y&T? I told him Legal Reins and he was quiet for second and then he said, That was pretty good... “When you're a kid, you have so little control over things. To be the big entity controlling the smaller entity, whether it's dolls or [toy] soldiers or whatever it is, they do what you tell them to do. They become the story you are making.” — Brian SelznickWe all want to feel in control, mold our lives and experiences, and shape the world into something we can hold. But control is slippery; one moment, it can steady us, the next, it slips away. Brian Selznick—#1 New York Times bestselling author, illustrator, and Caldecott Medal winner—has spent his career playing with this tension. From "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" to "Wonderstruck" and, most recently, "Run Away With Me," Brian believes that it's his job as the author to control the reader's experience, forcing page turns and placing illustrations in a particular order, all while acknowledging that control is ceded to the reader once a book is in their hands. In this episode, Under My Thumb: Brian Selznick on Control, Brian reflects on his lifelong pull toward control in life and art—what drives it, how it shapes his work, and when the need to let go becomes inevitable. He shares his fascination with all things miniature and opens up with unflinching honesty about his complicated relationship with his father, spanning life and loss. He also reveals a formative influence you might not expect, and a most extraordinary afternoon with Ray Bradbury.Settle in for a fascinating, moving episode with one of the great creators of our time.***For his reading challenge, Brian has curated two lists: one exploring queerness in literature over time and the other celebrating the power of the page turn. The latter is about his commitment to books, experimenting with form, and the balance of control between writer and reader.Peruse selected titles and Brian's complete reading challenge for free at thereadingculturepod.com/brian-selznickThis week's Beanstack Featured Librarian is Chelsea Pisani, a rockstar children's librarian at Maple Valley Branch Library in Akron, Ohio.
