Let's be real—marketing your horse business can feel like a full-time job on top of, well, your actual full-time job running the business. And while AI can't muck stalls or feed horses (yet!), it can help you save time and get more done when it comes to your marketing. But before you start asking ChatGPT to run your business for you, let's get one thing straight: AI is a tool, not a magic wand. You still need to know your audience, your voice, and your message. That's the heart of effective marketing—and no robot can replace your heart. That said, when used wisely, AI can help you amplify your marketing efforts in a way that feels like you've hired a behind-the-scenes assistant who gets your business. In this episode, you'll learn 4 practical ways to make it happen.Show Notes (also known as “Where to read a quick summary of what we talked about here and get links I mentioned.”) are over at Stormlily.com/178

Taking the Reins: Your Life, Your ResponsibilityOn the latest episode of Wyce Thoughts, host Terry Wyce dives into the crucial concept of personal responsibility. In a world that often encourages us to blame external factors, Terry reminds us that true empowerment comes from recognizing that we are the primary drivers of our own lives.Terry explores what personal responsibility looks like in practice, from the tangible aspects like punctuality and financial management to the less tangible ones like attitude, mindset, and character. He emphasizes that personal responsibility is about owning our mistakes, learning from them, and moving forward with a renewed sense of agency. The episode also addresses the obstacles to personal responsibility, such as the fear of failure and the allure of instant gratification. Terry argues that failure is a necessary part of growth and that prioritizing long-term well-being over short-term pleasure is essential for taking ownership of our lives.Terry provides listeners with practical advice on cultivating personal responsibility, including starting small, setting clear goals, practicing self-awareness, embracing failure, surrounding themselves with responsible people, being accountable, and celebrating progress.Ultimately, Terry concludes that personal responsibility is about the power of choice – the power to choose our own path, shape our own destiny, and live a life of purpose and meaning.WebsiteFollow on X Follow on FacebookFollow on YoutubeFollow Purple Pit Studios on X

Balance is something we all talk about and often crave, but it's actually not a word I love to use. As equestrian entrepreneurs, there will be times when things are out of balance — it's a given, and that's actually okay. The key is to learn how to blend business building, family life, mastering your art, and caring for yourself in a way that works well for you and your family. While it's unique to each entrepreneur, we can always learn from one another, right? That's why I think you'll love this honest conversation with Nevada Miller with Be A Maker School and Nevada Watt Brand. You'll hear Nevada's journey growing up in a family business, learning the art of silversmithing, and eventually building her own brand and then an online school for other gear makers. All while navigating the challenges of business ownership, family life on a ranch, and motherhood. You'll learn the importance of mastering the basics in business, the role of persistence in honing a craft, and how she now mentors others through her Be A Maker School.Plus, you know I love a good book recommendation — and Nevada came with some of her business faves! The early years of the Belt and Road Initiative left China with tens of billions of dollars in soured loans, making it a costly way of building global influence. Now Beijing is reworking its flagship infrastructure lending program to shield itself from financial risk and focus on projects that support its evolving ambitions, including securing critical supply chains for things like green-tech minerals and positioning itself as a leader that developing nations can unite behind. In the second episode of our three-part series, “Building Influence,” AidData's Bradley Parks, SOAS University of London's Steve Tsang and the WSJ's Chun Han Wong discuss Belt and Road 2.0 and how even though China is reducing its spending, it is no less ambitious when it comes to pursuing Xi Jinping's strategic goals. A Project 2025 mastermind now holds the reins of the federal bureaucracyMother Jones, By Isabela Dias, on February 6, 2025https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/02/russell-vought-confirmed-senate-omb-project-2025-christian-nationalism/The panel dissects the appointment of Russell Vought as the new head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), highlighting his concerning ties to extremist ideologies. The OMB wields significant power over the allocation of federal funds, affecting everything from defense to social programs. This means Vought, an open Christian nationalist with links to Project 2025, now has enormous influence over the financial workings of the U.S. government. His past includes advocating for the use of military force against protesters, dismantling federal agencies like the EPA, and cutting funding for social services, public education, and reproductive rights.Vought's think tank, the Center for Renewing America, promotes a theocratic vision for the U.S., openly stating its mission to establish a nation “under God” and dismantle federal protections against corporate and governmental overreach. His policies aim to consolidate executive power and undermine institutions designed to maintain democratic stability. The panel expresses alarm at his ambitions and notes the eerie historical parallels between his rhetoric and past authoritarian regimes. The discussion shifts to the structural issue of how the OMB interacts with Congress. While Congress technically controls the budget, the OMB has discretion in how funds are allocated, allowing someone like Vought to defund agencies by simply depriving them of resources. This loophole, which has existed for decades, now poses a dire risk given Vought's extremist agenda.Panelists Stephen and EJ, representing perspectives from Canada and Scotland, respectively, contrast their countries' political systems with the U.S. model. Stephen highlights how Canada's multi-party system prevents any single ideology from dominating, ensuring political diversity and negotiation. EJ warns that Europe has witnessed the consequences of unchecked fascism before and refuses to stand by while such forces gain traction in the U.S. Both express horror at the open rise of authoritarianism in American politics, particularly the normalization of fascist rhetoric and demonstrations. The conversation concludes on a somber note, with a recognition that while Vought's appointment is deeply troubling, the fight against authoritarianism is ongoing, and international allies remain committed to resisting its spread. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.7.2 featuring Scott Dickie, Stephen Harder, Helen Greene and The Ejector SeatBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
For many horse business owners, when they think of sales the word pushy or sales comes up. In episode 168 I used the analogy of a used car salesman – it's that ick factor that makes you feel awkward as soon as you start selling. Yet, as an equestrian business, you need to make sales to stay in business. That's true whether you offer an equine product or service. That means that as an equestrian entrepreneur, you need to strengthen your sales-building skills. But, is it possible for sales to feel natural, even if you hate it right now? Yes! We discussed Erin's journey from New York to Colorado, her love for horses, and how she discovered the transformative power of equine therapy. Erin shared insights about the growing conversation around mental health and the stigma surrounding it. We explored how horses help in grounding, healing, and offering a non-judgmental space for everyone who interacts with them. Additionally, we delved into personal stories of overcoming trauma, the importance of vulnerability, and how different environments can influence our mental and emotional states. We also touched on the broader implications of mental health, societal pressures, and the power of community. It was a heartfelt and enlightening conversation that reinforced the incredible work Erin is doing at Grace Reins and the importance of finding spaces that allow for true emotional and psychological healing.

Lori Daybell Takes the Reins in Arizona Court, Representing Herself in High-Profile Murder Trials Convicted murderer Lori Daybell returned to court Friday, asserting her right to represent herself in Arizona as she faces charges for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and the attempted murder of her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. During the hearing in Phoenix, Daybell, already serving life sentences in Idaho for the murders of her two youngest children and her fifth husband's first wife, stood firm in her decision to self-represent. She clarified to the court that she wishes to be addressed as Lori Daybell, using her fifth husband Chad Daybell's last name. Chad Daybell was sentenced to death in Idaho for his role in the murders. Prosecutors are preparing for the first trial focusing on Charles Vallow's murder, with jury selection scheduled for March 31. “The Defense intends on starting trial without delay,” Daybell told the court. Prosecutors anticipate their case-in-chief will take several weeks, depending on how long Daybell, acting as her own attorney, takes to cross-examine witnesses. Judge Justin Beresky acknowledged the complexity of scheduling, noting that a second trial date for the attempted murder of Boudreaux will depend on the duration of the first trial. “It's hard to set the second one without knowing how long the first one's going to take,” he said. Daybell made her presence felt in court, hand-filing two motions requesting additional discovery from prosecutors. One motion sought documents related to her extradition from Idaho to Arizona. Judge Beresky denied the motion, stating the materials were not relevant to the current charges. Despite these setbacks, Daybell appeared resolute. Her choice to represent herself, a rare and risky move in high-stakes criminal cases, has drawn significant public attention. Legal analysts have highlighted the challenges she will face, including navigating complex legal procedures and cross-examining witnesses. As her trial date approaches, Daybell's courtroom maneuvers will undoubtedly remain under intense scrutiny. Her ability to present a coherent defense while grappling with the weight of public opinion and her criminal history may shape the outcome of these proceedings. #LoriDaybell #ArizonaTrial #CharlesVallow #BrandonBoudreaux #SelfRepresentation #TrueCrime #MurderTrial Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Convicted murderer Lori Daybell returned to court Friday, asserting her right to represent herself in Arizona as she faces charges for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and the attempted murder of her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. Holding the Reins of Resilience – Michael Hall's Mission to Help Warriors Heal In this powerful episode, Marcus and Melanie meet with Michael Hall, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL from BUD/S Class 267 and the founder of Hold the Reins, a groundbreaking non-profit organization dedicated to equine-assisted wellness and coaching for special warfare operators. Michael shares his journey from the battlefield to the barn, explaining how his deep love of horses and his firsthand experience with the challenges of military life led him to create Hold the Reins. This program provides early intervention tools to help Navy SEALs, SWCC, and EOD teams develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication skills, and goal achievement—all through the incredible connection between humans and horses. With the unique pressures that come with a career in special operations, divorce and suicide rates remain devastatingly high among service members. Michael recognized this crisis and made it his mission to provide a lifeline—a safe space where warriors can regain control, reconnect, and find healing. Now, as he transitions into running Hold the Reins full-time as CEO and counselor, he's determined to give back to the community that shaped him. Tune in to hear Michael's inspiring story, the science behind equine therapy, and how his program is changing lives one ride at a time. In This Episode You Will Hear: • [My dad] asked me blankly one day, “What do you want to do?” It was just one of those things where I just spit out the first thing that my heart said, “I want to be a SEAL.” (8:43) • The Air Force recruiter looked at me, “Well, whatcha been up to since you graduated high school?” I didn't hold anything back. I just gave him anything. He was like, “There's no room for you in our Air Force.” (9:31) • [I saw] this recruiting commercial come on. Helicopters come over the horizon. It said, “We'll take you from high school to flight school.” So, I get in my truck and drove 150 miles to the recruiting office and joined the Navy. (15:41) • That why we started this thing, to help guys hit the pressure relief valve. (17:45) • The world's too slow. We're moving too fast on the inside, and we start trying to numb that down, and we do it in unproductive ways. • Our organization is called Hold the Reigns. We use horsemanship to teach guys how to emotionally regulate the present moment focus, and allow them to narrate their own story to us. (19:08) • Were the only organization, possibly in the nation that I know of, that's run by frogmen. (19:28) • I feel like God has created in me the way, or persona that's gonna be able to help guys. (23:23) • You can't team guy your way around horses. (26:24) • I've dealt with a lot of really dangerous horses and people made them that way. (43:18) • That's kind of a surprise thing we do – we put them in a really vulnerable situation, so you're no longer the hairy-chested, bullet-proof frogman. You're now just a little worried about your safety. (54:14) • A horse is completely honest. They do not know how to lie.
