Comedians Funmbi Omotayo (Quotas Full) and Dane Baptiste (Questions Everything) return to Flixwatcher to review Funmbi’s choice, Training Day. Training Day is a 2001 film from Antoine Fuqua and written by David Ayer, it stars Ethan Hawke as rookie officer Jake Hoyt on his first day with live wire Detective Alonzo Harris played by Denzel Washington earning him his second Best Actor Oscar. Training Day isn’t a typical buddy cop movie, things get dark pretty quickly, Denzel’s Alonzo doses Hoyt with PCP laced marijuana which he forces him to smoke at gunpoint and what follows is a day of robbery, corruption, and murder. all this is in the eyes of Alonzo ‘part of the job’. Training Day is all about Denzel. Clearly enjoying playing (a rare) bad guy role and bringing some humanity to a character that is a complete psychopath. Ethan Hawke just about manages to keep up but it’s Denzel’s film - a great performance but on reflection maybe not worthy of all the Oscar nominations it received. Scores [supsystic-tables id=138] Despite a dubious and unintentionally laughable ending Training Day scores very highly across recommendability and only loses points on repeat viewing to score a very respectable 4.26 overall. It’s Episode 123! Comedians Dane Baptiste (Questions Everything) and Funmbi Omotayo (Quotas Full) join Flixwatcher to review Dane’s choice, The Terminator. The Terminator is the 1984 sci fi classic from James Cameron starring Arnie as the Terminator, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese. The Terminator is sent back in time to 1984 from 2029 to kill Sarah Connor to prevent the leader of the resistance John Connor being born. Reese is sent back by John to protect her and (spoiler!) ensure that John Connor does exist. The Terminator is still as brilliant as it was in 1984, Terminator 2: Judgement Day might be funnier and have the best special effects ever but this film is more iconic. Everything from the futuristic score by Brad Fiedel, Stan Winston’s amazing animatronics, Arnie’s iconic sunglasses, and the ‘I’ll be back’ line still feels fresh and exciting. Scores [supsystic-tables id=128] Unsurprisingly The Terminator scores highly across recommendability and repeat viewing, if you’ve not seen it in a while you’ve probably forgotten about the flash of Arnie’s member. The Terminator scores a very deserving 4.35 overall. We had a huge response from Twitter who also gave it a lot of love. What do you guys think? Have you seen The Terminator? What did you think? LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he and his guest go deep into the subject of mortality via cinema, and this week he is joined by the wonderful comedian FUNMBI OMOTAYO!“Comedy is my calling - what I do with my comedy is the purpose…”A really enjoyable and uplifting episode with the radiant Funmbi, who is pretty much universally regarded as an all round nice guy - and this episode should only serve as evidence of this! However, as we hear, the nice guy image can be tough to break out of, especially in the world of standup. He and Brett get deep into this of course, but you can expect some full on entertaining film chatter as well as comedy nuggets and gems, including Funmbi’s beginnings in comedy and developing his comedic chops for all kinds of rooms and environments, living in Nigeria at an early age and being involved in film clubs which, at that time, was all about VHS tapes, how one must commit to one’s VHS renting choice whereas in streaming you can jump around, attending drama school in Canada, not being into horror and opting more for the superhero side of things, relatable bad guys and SO MUCH MORE! It’s proper jam packed, and Funmbi’s led a crazy interesting life so you’ll definitely get down with this one, ladies and gentlemen. Funmbi Faneye is a poultry farmer with an interest in crop farming. He started Joshella Farms Services Ltd in 2012 and started operations in January 2013 after he left banking. He has had over 13 years of combined experience in FMCG and banking before venturing into farming having had stints with Procter & Gamble Nig Ltd, Citizens Int’l bank ltd and Zenith Bank Ltd. His banking experience ranges from Retail Banking, Oil & Gas group, internal control & Audit, Public Sector, and Card Services. Below is a Summary from the show The Fear of Starting with Funmbi Faneye Funmbi Faneye shares his Story after losing 14years of Hard work in the Banking Sector and starting over. The CEO recounted his beginnings from Palmgrove Shomolu, a suburb in Lagos to waking up to a message of his end of service at the bank. He shared his thoughts after losing 14 years of hard work this without another Plan, a Plan b to fall back on. He adduced that his fear at the time was that he hadn’t been involved in any business in his 14years in the banking sector and this with the fear of Starting over. Armed with the memory of rearing a number of chickens at a young age, his journey into farming began despite his many Qualifications and Work Experiences. He described his journey into farming as happening after a meeting with a poultry farmer at his friend’s event. Taking a liking for the venture, he took some lessons to learn the ropes prior to laying the groundwork for his own farming business. He spoke on reactions from his family during his transition saying that they were of the opinion that his CV could still get him a job. Albeit, speaking on the fears of starting he referred to a quote by Franklin Roosevelt as, “the thing you have to fear is fear.” He advised against perfection tendencies while hinting on the need to start small by small. Although, he assented to fear as being of a good cause he hinted on the need for one to still prepare by reading books and collaborating with people. According to him, no one was born a Successful entrepreneur, still, one needed to learn, have a thick skin, be Passionate and focused. He motioned on working-class persons to always have a Plan B seeing that the Nigerian economy was fast moving away from White-collar jobs. He further submitted that many businesses were failing and laying off their staffs still he advised that people take up other businesses on the side as they work. In his final words, he maintained that fear was only a feeling that keeps people in their comfort zone and only exists if they never try.
