Mohsin cannot wait to be a parent and for the chance to pretend he will do things entirely differently from his parents, before realizing they were right about more than he knew. Dalia Iskander is a Medical Anthropology Lecturer at UCL. Her specialist research areas include the body and emotion; childhood and gender; and health related decision making. She and her husband recently had a child, and this experience has made her think differently about pregnancy and parenthood. Dalia comes from a British-Egyptian-Christian background and lives in London with her family. Listen as Mohsin and Dalia discuss with Ellen and Jenn: • Mohsin growing up in a devout Muslim family where being gay was not accepted. • Meeting the love of his life, Matthew, and together wanting to be parents. • Mohsin's best friend, Dalia, offering to be a gestational surrogate for them, an offer they could hardly believe. • This journey sparked their podcast, Tiny Huge Decisions, following two best friends making this relationship-altering choice. Greetings Glocal Citizens! For this week's episode I found myself in a hidden gem of a community in East London with a not so hidden gem in the European investment space, Eric Collins. Eric, born an raised in the southern United States, has called London home for the nearly 10 years. He is a serial entrepreneur, investor, technology executive and host of Channel 4 business show, The Money Maker (https://www.themoneymaker.com), which is based on the highly successful US show The Profit on CNBC. Eric has spent much of his career building the value of digital companies through innovative strategies at public and private companies including AOL, TimeWarner, Tegic/Nuance Communications, MobilePosse, SwiftKey/Microsoft and most recently, Touch Surgery, where he was COO. Emily Lanigan-Palotai interview is different than the past episodes. This one is good for people who want to talk about music and "what is music?" Emily did her Masters in Medieval musicology, focusing on chant (music). CHANTING. Like, it's effect, where it comes from .. and how prevalent it is in rituals. We talk about the history of traditions and rituals and "what is a church?" She is currently helps to care for the artefacts at Chester Cathedral, and we discuss how her job interacts with something called ‘liturgy'. Emily is fascinating and brilliant. Her story is such a beautiful story. In later episodes with Emily, we also discuss the BIPOC (or BAME) representation of Jesus Christ or the imperfections within religious spaces. God may be perfect, but that church door needs some oil!   This whole series is about my curiosity, and Emily was a super interesting interview.

Hello and welcome to the ET Project. I'm your host, Wayne Brown, and as usual, we're delighted to be delivering this podcast for executive talent all over the world whom we're affectionately referring to as Team ET. And team, today we're traveling to the UK to a township southwest of London to meet with our very special guest. She's a catalyst, a mentor, a guest lecturer, a trustee, a non-executive director, a JP, an advisory board member, and a CEO by day. And she's also a twin mom. I'm very happy to be chatting today with Ms. Brandie Deignan.  Brandie is a self-proclaimed industry agnostic, and as you'll hear shortly, throughout her career has not only held senior roles across multiple industries where she had no background. But with each transition moved into higher office. In early 2021, Brandie joined the primary care within NHS in general practice as the Chief Executive Officer highlighting that leadership is leadership and cuts across all sectors. Prior to the switch to primary care in NHS, Brandie was managing director at Marco Pierre White Restaurants cementing her 20 years of experience in consumer service delivery industries across hospitality, retail, and aviation.  Before her MD role, Brandie held senior leadership positions in British Airways, Tesco, Whitbread, Travelodge, and Hilton Hotels, where she started her career as a graduate trainee and worked her way up. A true trailblazer, Brandie was the first female MD at MPW Restaurants, and as of 2020, was the first black female MD within branded restaurants across the UK. She's presently the only black female CEO within NHS primary care. Brandie has been named as one of the top 15 BAME high fliers in travel and tourism, and nominated in multiple other British Business Awards plus has been voted as one of the top 50 listening leaders. In our conversation, we use her Mindset Revolution™  Concept and HEARD ™ approach to unpack the fundamental psychology of why people, families, organizations, and nations at large, either succeed or fail. We embark on a reflective journey of why we act the way we do, and how nations like Rwanda have used the power of collective behavioral change to initiate and sustain long-term growth.  At the end of the day, Akosua argues, it is not our hopes and aspirations that will make our lives and communities successful, but an intentionally crafted system of psychological and cultural incentives and activities!  In this fascinating episode, we are challenged to see the bigger picture, by first looking within.  Join us for another incredible deep dive into the life journey and craft of an industry leader unlike any other. She is an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities taking up space in the outdoors and is a committee member with the awesome Peak Queer Adventures (PQA) based in Sheffield and member of the Women of Colour Cycling Collective (WCCC).    Carla's love of the outdoors started from an early age, however gender roles and expectations sadly stopped her from fully embracing that love as a teenager. She reconnected with the outdoors and solo adventures after moving to North Wales to undertake her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in her mid-twenties, and hasn't looked back.    She was awarded the Ultra Distance Scholarship in 2021, which is aimed at increasing representation of BAME cyclists in ultra distance cycling and getting them to the start line of an ultra distance race, a typically overwhelmingly white and male niche of cycling.    This amazing opportunity has been life-changing and she's gone from not being confident at all in her cycling abilities, to cycling 500km off road from Edinburgh to Manchester, her longest, hardest ride to date. She's met the most amazing people, grown in confidence and felt like she's found her people.    She started an Instagram account after winning the Scholarship, to document her journey from (almost couch) to 2000km with the hope of inspiring queer people and people of colour, particularly black womxn, to get on their bikes and enjoy nature.    You can find her at @acurlyoutdoors; check out Peak Queer Adventures at @peakqueeradventures and the Women of Colour Cycling Collective at @wccc_uk.      New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast go live every Tuesday at 7am UK time - Hit the subscribe button so you don't miss out.    Support the mission to increase the amount of female role models in the media especially in relation to adventure and physical challenges.
