Matt and Jordan review Netflix’s generically titled, but surprisingly witty Office Romance. Co-written by and starring Brett Goldstein alongside JLo, the workplace rom-com rises just above the streaming giant’s usual output by delivering actual jokes, real talent, and a surprising level of NSFW content. Netflix's Office Romance brings Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein together in a workplace romantic comedy about two ambitious professionals who find themselves caught between career goals and unexpected feelings. While the movie has some strong chemistry between the leads and a solid setup, does it do enough to stand out from the endless stream of predictable rom-coms? In this review, I break down what works, what doesn't, and whether this trending Netflix romance is worth your time or just another familiar love story we've seen before.
New Netflix film is entertaining, somewhat original as well as retreaded with some twists but way too many F-Bombs, so it's not for families but it is good for a laugh.
"Shrinking" is an American comedy-drama television series created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, starring Segel as a grieving therapist who decides to become drastically more involved in his patients' lives. Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley also have pivotal roles in the comedy series. The series premiered to positive reviews, with praise for its performances, writing, humor, and examination of grief. The recipient of six Primetime Emmy Award nominations, the third season is looking to increase that, and one way might be through Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series, with Critics Choice Award Winner Michael Urie as Brian Lorenzo, Jimmy's (Segel) best friend, a lawyer. Urie was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the show, which you can listen to below. We begin with Denise Carter, who in 2024 sent a 32-page, laminated binder to her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend titled “Things He Will Eventually Do To You”. It apparently took three months to compile and featured detailed relationship data, flowcharts, screenshots, and witness accounts and it's gone viral again so naturally we need to discuss. Then it's onto the Socceroos and the FIFA World Cup, the Socceroos team truly reflects Australia as it is now, and Em reckons that the politicians and the media using immigrants to divide us, are about to witness Australia truly come together around the glorious multicultural players of the Socceroos team. Finally there's ‘Office Romance' the new J'Lo film written and starring Brett Goldstein of ‘Ted Lasso' fame for Em to review, from rogue boners to prosthetic birthing moments, this movie has a LOT to discuss about it. Have you ever dreamt of packing up your family and escaping to the country? Former AFL player Buddy Franklin and his wife Jesinta have ditched the big city for something a little... quieter. Monz, Amelia and Stacey are unpacking whether it’s possible to completely reinvent your family life. Plus, Stacey explains her 'Florist Theory.’ Also, there’s a new solution for parenting exhaustion that involves dividing household duties differently, and we’re trying to decide if it’s genius, or not all it’s cracked up to be. And, what about the ‘double drop-off’? First it was ponytails and pints and now it’s pints and periods. British dads are going to the pub to learn more about periods and how to show up for their daughters. Monz has thoughts, but honestly? We think it’s kind of wholesome. Reccos: Stacey is loving Office Romance on Netflix. Amelia recommends the Micador Junior Colour Wash Repeat Tablecloth, a $27 lifesaver that keeps kids calm and centred during family dinners or chaotic parties. Monique is loving buying cheap silicone ear putty from the chemist to turn down the volume on sensory overload at deafening basketball stadiums and supermarkets. FANCY YOURSELF A CELEB EXPERT? Take The Spill's Pop Culture Quiz here.Get ready because this Brutally Honest Review is indeed Brutal. We watched Office Romance so you don't have to (or so you can debate us after you do).The premise: J Lo is a big shot at work, there are workplace rules, and absolutely nobody follows them. And let's just say we have some absolutely brutal thoughts on her leading man Brett Goldstein's presence, whether the chemistry actually lands, and why this feels less like a rom-com and more like a very expensive fan letter nobody asked for.We also get into what that shocking baby scene means for Australian birth rates, and the bigger question: does this actually move the needle for the rom-com crisis, or is it just another in-between filler?Remember The Spill drops the tea twice a day in this feed so follow us for all the latest entertainment news… OR you can WATCH our show in full length video on the Apple Podcast app - make sure your phone is up to date and enjoy the watch! This week Andrew and Ted curled up on the couch with a fluffy blanket, a bowl of fresh popcorn and watched the Netflix Rom/Com "Office Romance" starring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein. Air Cruz CEO Jackie Cruz (Lopez) is due for a deposition and when company lead attorney Peter Vance (Bradley Whitfield) is taken out by a burrito, second seat attorney Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein) assumes the first chair during the deposition and from this first meeting there is an instant attraction. Find out what Andrew and Ted thought of "Office Romance" in this episode of the soon to be Award Winning podcast "Streaming Without A Paddle".
Kansas City's channel 4 news gets invaded by aliens in the wild new Stephen Spielberg sci-fi opus "Disclosure Day." Emily Blunt plays a KC meteorologist, and Josh O'Connor is a cybersecurity expert who each experience a psychic connection to an alien intelligence, putting them at odds with a shady non-government agency. The actors are fine, the suspense is palpable, and the camerawork and action sequences are masterfully executed. It all gets too literal when it could have benefitted from being more ambiguous. Still, "Disclosure Day" is very entertaining and shows that Kansas City is out of this world. It's very telling when the best thing you can think of to say about a movie is, "Well, it could have been worse." Such is the case with the Netflix rom com, "Office Romance." Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein of "Ted Lasso" fame star as a testy airline CEO and her awkward legal counsel. As the title suggests, they embark on an ill-advised affair. There's not a believable moment in Goldstein's vulgar script. “Office Romance” is an old-fashioned movie that relies on raunchy elements to make it seem contemporary. Bad idea. The Norwegian language monster flick “Kraken” is now available on digital platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Video. It's not to be confused with the 2025 Russian monster flick of the same name. In this surprisingly effective little sci-fi opus, a marine biologist tries to figure out if the experimental techniques used by a salmon farm in a Norwegian fjord are responsible for some mysterious deaths. It's derivative and takes a while to get going, but “Kraken” is a slickly produced Scandinavian take on the Kaiju genre.
Is it off-screen chemistry, or is it just good marketing? Hosts Sanjana Basker and Tyler McCall open with the Brett Goldstein and JLo Office Romance press tour—and what it means when a man manifests his lifelong crush into a co-starring role. Then scholar and author Nisha Sharma joins to talk about her research on dark romance and reproductive coercion, including how the genre’s relationship to consent has shifted alongside the political landscape, and whether dark romance could do better without losing what makes it so compelling. Plus: a listener voicemail sends Sanj and Tyler deep into Off Campus territory. Office Romance starring JLo and Brett Goldstein is streaming now on Netflix—clearly we’ll be discussing. Nisha Sharma, author of The Letters We Keep, is studying the intersection of law, politics, and culture in romance fiction. Her Substack post on dark romance and reproductive coercion tees up this episode’s conversation. A few dark romances for discussion: Lights Out by Navessa Allen, Brynn Weaver and Allie Oleander’s work, and Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. It’s time for the Off Campus discourse! The correct answer to listener Lacey's question is Dean Di Laurentis. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
SPOILER-FREE as always! Had to put together an episode while we feel like being responsible TV and film podcasters. We've left a lot on our "we want to watch that" list. We don't know how long those movies will remain on that list but for now, we begin with Eraserheads: Combo on the Run! The documentary on Philippine's most iconic band is finally on Netflix. Para sa fans? Pano sa mga hindi? Pag-usapan natin! We then move on to the massively successful sci-fi horror film from A24, Backrooms! From creepypasta to Youtube series to box office hit, director Kane Parsons gives us a tour of this endless maze of unsettling vibes. Pagkatapos nun, we give our final word on the number one series in Korea, Filing for Love. Then while still on the topic of office romance, we talk about, well, Office Romance. Starring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, sabi ng Netflix NSFW daw ang relationship nila—talaga ba? Last but not the least, napanood nga rin pala namin ang latest movie ng DonBelle, ang Tayo Sa Wakas! At heto na nga daw ang wakas—as in this is DonBelle's final film as a love team... Until it's not. Listen in and let's talk about it!Follow us on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, and Letterboxd @pleasepausephWe'd really appreciate it if you tell someone about the podcast! It's another packed episode of The Interviews, folks. First off, listener discretion is advised as Chris Hewitt talks to Brett Goldstein, star and co-writer of Office Romance, and his director, Ol Parker, about C-bombs, of which this interview contains plenty, and explicit childbirth scenes. Then, to our great delight, Actual Rock Star Ben Gibbard, frontman of Death Cab For Cutie, pops into the podbooth to have a chat with Beth Webb about his love of movies, working with the late, great Lynn Shelton, and his band's new album, I Built You A Tower. Finally, we bring you a big old chunk of Chris' spoiler special interview with Masters Of The Universe director, Travis Knight, aka He-Director.
How to Direct A-List Talent: Ol Parker on Rom-Coms, Rejection & Set Etiquette How do you maintain your creative voice while directing some of the biggest movie stars on the planet? This week, Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir sit down with Hollywood hitmaker Ol Parker to unpack the business of making audiences feel good. Known for writing and directing global smashes like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Ticket to Paradise, Ol joins host Giles Alderson to discuss his latest feature film, the Netflix R-rated corporate comedy Office Romance, starring Jennifer Lopez, Brett Goldstein, and a massive ensemble of comedy heavyweights. Ol delivers a masterclass in longevity, collaboration, and set management. He opens up about the unique challenge of directing a script written by his lead actors, how to balance hard-R comedy with touching narrative beats, and why a director's job is often about listening to the experts around them.
The new Netflix film Office Romance pairs rom-com veteran Jennifer Lopez with Brett Goldstein in a story about the hazards of falling for your boss. But is the on-screen chemistry there? And how does it fit into J.Lo's rom-com history? Directed by Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), the film was written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, one of the writers he worked with on Ted Lasso. If you need another Jennifer Lopez fix, check out these episodes:Can Jennifer Lopez's 'This Is Me... School's out for summer and we've got something for everyone on the latest episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast. Here's what we reviewed: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. It's yet another '80s nostalgia trip, this one inspired by the Mattel toys and cartoon series about He-Man and Skeletor. Director Travis Knight finds a cheeky, self-aware tone. Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto and Idris Elba star. In theaters. SCARY MOVIE (2026). This is the sixth "Scary Movie" movie if you're keeping track, but the first one in a long time from the Wayans brothers. Name a recent horror movie and they're spoofing it here, with hit-and-miss results. In theaters. OFFICE ROMANCE. Jennifer Lopez is back in rom-com territory as the CEO of an airline who falls for a new lawyer on her staff (Brett Goldstein, who also wrote the script with 'Ted Lasso" co-creator Joe Kelly). We don't agree on whether this raunchy comedy works. Streaming now on Netflix. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! The apocalypse is trending again, which means naturally The Rizzuto Show spent way too much time discussing celebrity bunkers, survival plans, and exactly how many canned goods Moon would trade for a VIP pass into Post Malone's luxury doomsday compound. This episode starts with a deep dive into Post Malone's reported Utah fortress — complete with mountain views, security systems, recording studios, and enough amenities to make the end of the world feel suspiciously like a five-star resort. While billionaires are building secret hideaways and celebrities are stockpiling supplies, Lern starts seriously considering constructing her own underground luxury shelter. Because if civilization is ending, why not do it with themed décor and a fake beach mural?Meanwhile, we uncover one of Hollywood's greatest mysteries: Why does Matt Damon constantly need rescuing? From Saving Private Ryan to The Martian to Interstellar, movie studios have spent hundreds of millions of dollars bringing Matt Damon back home. At this point, it may be more cost effective to simply stop letting him wander off.The gang also gets sidetracked debating Father's Day, celebrity prepper culture, militia-friendly states, and whether Moon can somehow charm his way onto someone's apocalypse guest list before society collapses. Spoiler alert: he's already working on it.Then it's time for a packed edition of Crap on Celebrities featuring new music from Weezer, a Gold Album announcement, Kiss releasing yet another collectible for fans who somehow still have shelf space, Violet Grohl making her late-night television debut, and surprising details about Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein's reported relationship.Plus:• Paul Rudd accidentally auctions Avengers premiere tickets without telling Marvel• Shia LaBeouf pleads guilty after a New Orleans altercation• Tom Holland explains why his dyslexia keeps him away from hosting SNL• A horrifying new horror movie turns ice cream into nightmare fuel• The New York Times readers vote on the greatest living American songwriters and somehow create enough controversy to fuel several future family argumentsAs always, the crew manages to bounce from celebrity gossip to weird news to philosophical debates about survival, parenthood, music, and the proper use of an underground bunker. Which is exactly what happens when a daily comedy show is fueled by caffeine, questionable opinions, and absolutely no fear of getting distracted.Whether you're preparing for the apocalypse, trying to figure out why Matt Damon keeps getting stranded, or just looking for a daily comedy show packed with laughs, celebrity chaos, and random rabbit holes, Episode 51 delivers. And if the world really does end tomorrow, at least you'll have one more daily comedy show to enjoy before heading underground.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Listen to learn the emotional impact of revealing secrets vs discovering them. In this episode Stu, Chas and Mel apply the Landmark–Hidden–Secret framework (from DZ-126) across two very different genres: the thriller SIDE EFFECTS (2013) and the tragicomic pilot of SHRINKING. SIDE EFFECTS is a film of two genres. The first half plays as a drama about depression and over-medication; the second half is a 90s thriller. We talk about how every time Dr Jonathan Banks uncovers a new piece of information, it puts him in danger — and that danger motivates him to uncover more. In SHRINKING, we see a different use of the framework. "What are psychologists but detectives of the mind?" Rather than the cost of finding secrets, it's about the cost of sharing them. Chas also comes out of this with a paradigm he's been building toward (but we're keeping what that is secret until you listen!) And inevitably we go on some tangents: whether SIDE EFFECTS should even have been an erotic thriller! As always: SPOILERS ABOUND and all copyright material used under fair use for educational purposes. LIKE THIS EPISODE? Discuss with our Patrons on Patreon. Join the discussion on Reddit. So the ‘royal tour that isn’t’ is in full swing and we have an insider call from Melbourne. Our friend Amy Clark was hanging out with Harry at a men's mental health event this morning, and tells us everything, including which Australian celebrities upstaged the Duke/Prince. But as Harry and Meghan’s itinerary unfurls, Holly Wainwright asks: Is it ballsy or cheeky to be pulling off exactly the kind of tour once reserved for active, working royals? Plus, as Susan Coyle becomes Australia’s first female Army Chief, the celebrations are almost being drowned out by the sexist trolling. The swampy internet discourse feels gutting for every woman who has ever worked her way to the top only to be met with a chorus of 'DEI hire'. Amelia Lester is unpacking: Should women just ignore the trolling these wins attract, or does that leave us living in a fake reality? And, 'hey, girl'. Clare Stephens has researched to PhD level the 'Alex vs. Alix' podcast feud. We’ve got Alex Cooper (the Call Her Daddy mogul) and Alix Earle (the Hot Mess creator) throwing passive-aggressive shade over TikTok about 'fake drama' and 'rock bottom' content. Is it a manufactured publicity stunt for an upcoming interview? Or is there genuine jealousy over a Super Bowl commercial and (gosh) Adam Sandler cameos? Meanwhile, over in Scurrilous Gossip, JLo is reportedly hooking up with Ted Lasso’s Roy Kent (aka Brett Goldstein), and we are invested. Apparently, he's the 'best kisser' she’s ever worked with, which is quite the claim. But is it real?
