On today's show, I bounce back from my absolute sickness over that Giants/Dodgers series last week with some help from the return of the good ol' Association and my Dubs. A one run game in the 9th with a runner on and the 1st base ump calls a horrendous check swing strike? Made me so ill I couldn't even watch sports for a whole day. Good thing I'm over it, (not really tho), cuz there's a magnificent, only could be made better if the Giants were still alive, sports eclipse going on right now, and it officially tipped off last night with the return of the NBA. Bucks/Nets and Warriors/Lakers was a great way to set the table, but before we settle into the feast that is the NBA season, we're gonna break down how many teams actually have a window of hope to get to the Finals this year. And with the NFL a third of the way into the season, it's time to start our assessments and figure out who's shaping up to be contenders. The Cards and Cowboys have come out of nowhere to rise straight to the top, while the Bengals and Raiders easily exceed expectations. But there's one big mystery out there overshadowing them all, and that is, what do we make of the Chiefs? The consensus preseason AFC favorites are a mess, and so far even the magic of Patrick Mahomes hasn't been enough to get them over .500. And then there's the baseball, the one that broke my heart. We'll see . . . So sit back, the NFL, MLB and NBA converge for the sports eclipse and we're breaking down how it's all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast so let's get rolling . . . 7:25 - NBA: Warriors/Lakers 9:40 - All Around MLB: Giants/Dodgers from the ground perspective 16:38 - All Around the NBA season preview 40:24 - All Around the NFL: Power Rankings and more
We talk about the Giants Dodgers game 5 check swing call, the longevity of players in modern sports today, the effect technological and medical innovation has had on athletics, the first athlete to be diefied, what a good day in the office looks like for Westbrook, and how to handle COVID vaccination status for NBA players (Kyrie and Wiggins as two examples)

Chris Williams misses the first portion of the show and Scott Siepker helps fill in along with Erick Zamora as they chat with Ross Peterson about the exciting game and series that was Giants/Dodgers and that controversial call to end the game that could have and maybe should have been called a check swing. That gets into a discussion about replay, robot umpires, framing pitches and stars getting star treatment and calls. Then Chris Williams joins the program and they chat college football to end the hour.
Doug thinks Wilmer Flores offered at the pitch and the check swing strike was the right call to end Game 5 of the NLDS. Doug also thinks that check swing controversy took away from the game, the managerial moves by Dave Roberts and the clutch hit by Cody Bellinger. In reaction to the Washington Football Team president apologizing for the short-notice of his team honoring the late Sean Taylor this Sunday, Doug thinks it's a lie and that the team should have admitted to their fans what it really was: a positive distraction from the bad week for the team. Former NFL Scout and host of the 3 & Out podcast John Middlekauff joins Doug to talk about the Thursday night NFL game and also to discuss the controversial check swing in the Giants-Dodgers game. Plus, Isaac Lowenkron takes Doug through a game of "Psychic". Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

Massive week in the sports world. We have a lot to cover and we dive right in. We start this week with the biggest storyline in sports and that's Jon Gruden's stepping down as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders due to some offensive emails that came out during the Dan Snyder investigation. Its a terrible look and the Raiders did the right thing by parting ways. We recap last week's NFL games as well as get into a little preview for this week's matchups. Next, we move onto the MLB postseason. Grubes is on top of the world right now as he got to witness the Braves clinch the NLDS and move onto play the Dodgers in NLCS. We talk Giants Dodgers as well as both AL series. It could be another Dodgers Astros World Series this year (the baseball world will crumble if the Astros win it all). Finally, we're at the halfway point in the College Football season so we decide to give out our biggest surprises, biggest losers, biggest winners and who we think is leading the Heisman race as of right now. We wrap up our College Football segment with our weekly picks. We had a bad week last week so we are looking for a bounce back this week. If you like us, hit subscribe and tell your friends. Oracle Park will be jumping just like it was when the Giants won their World Series titles in 2010,2012 and 2014. Jeremy talks about how different playoff intensity is then in a regular season game and how you have to always be ready in a playoff game cause anything can happen. Jeremy talks about how baseball brawls are really just dumb and not really a fight at all. He tells a great story about a brawl with the Phillies and an altercation he had with Chase Utley. Grant and Jeremy talk about about freak injuries that happened involving baseball and how Jeremy just seemed to have them happen to him. And the guys discuss the ALCS and who they will think will represent the AL in the World Series- Boston Red Sox or the Houston Astros.
