Grace Giving, Part 1
Special message about giving
Sadly, the subject of financial giving is often considered “controversial.” This is both harmful and needless because biblical giving is both a result and a revelation of God's gospel grace. As Paul begins a two-chapter discourse on “giving and the church,” he grounds us in the biblical teaching of grace giving. He helps us to see that giving is a gospel issue. We will discover this under these headings: 1. Grace Experienced (vv. 1–2) 2. Grace Exemplified (vv. 3–5) 3. Grace Excelling (vv. 6–7)
Matthew 6:1-4

Let's redefine giving generously, not for appearances, but out of love and obedience to God.As we kick off our new series this weekend, let's deep dive into spiritual disciplines—praying, giving, and fasting—as joyful responses to God's grace.

Are we to give a set percentage of our income, like a tithe, or is it something different? New Testament grace giving is founded upon our freedom in Christ. We are not under the Law or any spiritual regulation requiring that we give a certain amount. Instead, we can decide from the heart how much we want to give to support the Gospel message (2 Corinthians 9:7).
This is message 12 in the 2 Corinthians series 2 Corinthians 7:1-16 Paul explains three levels of Christian giving: tithing, giving above the tithe, and grace giving, which is sacrificial giving for missions and projects beyond the local church. He highlights the Macedonian churches as an example of sacrificial giving despite their poverty, and points to Jesus as the ultimate example of generosity. Paul emphasizes that grace giving starts with a willing heart, and should be done with integrity and accountability, as demonstrated by Titus and his companion. Ultimately, giving is a demonstration of love and faithfulness to God's work. What is "grace giving"? Let's take a look at the New Testament principles of giving.
In this episode, Dwight Tomlinson explores the principles of grace giving as outlined in 2 Corinthians. The sermon highlights the example set by the churches of Macedonia, who gave generously despite their own limitations. The speaker emphasizes the importance of not delaying in our generosity, urging us to consider why God has blessed us and to reflect on how we can increase our standard of giving. Send me a Text Message!Nehemiah 9 contains the longest recorded prayer in the Bible. And we can learn a lot about prayer from this prayer. For example, prayer must be radically God-centered. This prayer of Nehemiah is saturated with God. He is our Creator, Redeemer, Grace-Giving, Wonder-Working, Lavishly Loving, Great and Almighty, Chastizer and Forgiver of our Sins. I wonder what people might learn about God, if they listened to our prayers?More than once in Nehemiah 9, you will hear God described as a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. And why are they so taken by his forgiveness, his grace and compassion and abounding love? It's because they have come to realize their sin. Let Nehemiah 9 draw you into the story of your own life and know that He loves you with all His heart!
When we develop a culture of grace, the gospel will shape our generosity. Giving has the opportunity to become an expression of our genuine fellowship and partnership with one another, leading us to take responsibility beyond ourselves. And more than mere obligation, giving also becomes an expression of our worship; God receives it as a beautiful aroma, a pleasing sacrifice to Him. As we learn that our Father really does care for us too, giving becomes an expression of our faith in Him. Like the Philippian church, we can discover a gospel-centered approach to giving, knowing Jesus is our supply.
Elders Scott Culbreth and Jim McLaughlin take time to examine the biblical principle of giving, focusing on financial giving but with a view toward giving as a response to the gospel.

2 Corinthians 9:6-15 / June 13-17, 2024 When grace fuels us to forgive someone who has offended us, we abundantly release every hint of any offence. When grace is cultivated in our relationship with a friend, an abundance of bountiful freedom marks our friendship. The same bountiful abundance occurs when grace is the motivating factor prompting our giving. In other words, living by faith includes giving by grace. From the Series: Hilarious Generosity read more
