GENEROUS GRACE GIVING March 1, 2026 Elwyn Johnston 2 Corinthians 8:1 – 9 Verse of the Week: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 1. We are called to be contributors, not simply consumers. “They are being tested by many troubles, and they are extremely poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.” 2 Corinthians 8:2 “their first action was to give themselves to the Lord” 2 Cor. 8:5 “They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.” 2 Corinthians 8:4 2. We are called to be Christ's representatives “Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in His grace has done through the churches in Macedonia.” 2 Corinthians 8:1 “You are the light of the world….let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14 & 16 “I am testing the sincerity of your love” 2 Corinthians 8:8 “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 3. We are called to eternal-minded giving “we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:6 “excel also in this gracious act of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7 “It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. Now finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:10 & 11 “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.” John 4:34 “You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that by His poverty He could make you rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9 “generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.” Isaiah 32:8 “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

Ephesians 2:8Not nostalgia, not tradition, not trees. Grace is what continually draws us into celebrating Christmas, year after year. Giving is what makes Christmas great. It's a wonderful feeling to give a gift without expecting anything in return. This is a good way for us to understand God's grace—His gifts come with no strings attached.

Are you giving out of grace or guilt? Trace the biblical foundation for giving from the Old Testament tithe to New Testament generosity. Learn why the Church is not under a mandate to tithe and why percentage-based giving distorts the doctrine of grace. See how Paul uses the Philippians' support as a model for spiritual partnership. Examine how Jesus taught that giving is a matter between the believer and the Lord and not a public performance. Understand that true giving is a result of spiritual growth, not a substitute for it. Episode Summary:Welcome back! Today, I want to explore the importance of creating space for yourself and releasing the hidden baggage that holds you back. Most of us are unknowingly living in patterns shaped by decades of subconscious trauma—the hurtful words, judgments, and stories we've taken on as our own. I emphasize that the real battle isn't with the world or other people; it's with ourselves. When you understand that the comments and beliefs that have shaped you are often not even about you, but about the other person's pain, you begin to heal. The key is to give yourself grace, put down the armor, and stop fighting the stories that no longer serve you. Key Highlights: - The Person You Speak to the Most: It's often ourselves, and the words we tell ourselves are the most damaging.- External Words Are Just Stories: Comments from others are usually rooted in their pain, and taking them personally is a way we carry their hurt as our own.- Subconscious Patterns: Decades of hidden beliefs shape our reactions, and these only surface when we bring them to light.- The Power of Grace: Giving grace to others—and to yourself—allows you to release the baggage and rewrite your story.- The True Battle: The biggest struggle is you versus you. When you let go of past hurts and false identities, real movement begins.Final Message:The stories we tell ourselves about who we are are not written in stone—they are shaped by the beliefs we hold. Let go of old wounds, drop your swords, and realize that you are not defined by the words or judgments of others. Your true power lies in how you see yourself. If this episode resonated, share it with someone who needs to hear it and keep the momentum of growth going!

Grace Giving - Part 2
Grace Giving, Part 1
Special message about giving
Sadly, the subject of financial giving is often considered “controversial.” This is both harmful and needless because biblical giving is both a result and a revelation of God's gospel grace. As Paul begins a two-chapter discourse on “giving and the church,” he grounds us in the biblical teaching of grace giving. He helps us to see that giving is a gospel issue. We will discover this under these headings: 1. Grace Experienced (vv. 1–2) 2. Grace Exemplified (vv. 3–5) 3. Grace Excelling (vv. 6–7)
True generosity isn't about seeking praise, but giving with a pure heart. Jesus teaches us that the right motivation for our giving matters just a much as the gift itself. Let's redefine giving generously, not for appearances, but out of love and obedience to God.As we kick off our new series this weekend, let's deep dive into spiritual disciplines—praying, giving, and fasting—as joyful responses to God's grace.

In Part Two of the "Grace Giving" lesson from the "Growing Up and Getting Along: Lessons from 2nd Corinthians"series, Pastor James D. Gailliard continues exploring 2 Corinthians 8 and 9. This session dives deeper into the principles of biblical generosity, emphasizing the blessings of cheerful giving and trusting God as the ultimate provider. Pastor Gailliard unpacks how grace giving reflects God's character, strengthens our faith, and builds thriving communities. Learn how giving with the right heart aligns us with God's purposes and brings joy to both the giver and the receiver.
In this Bible study titled "Grace Giving," part of the 2024 series "Growing Up and Getting Along: Lessons from 2nd Corinthians," Pastor James D. Gailliard explores the principles of generosity found in 2 Corinthians 8. Pastor Gailliard teaches about the grace of giving, showing how the Macedonian churches exemplified sacrificial giving despite their own challenges. This lesson emphasizes that generosity is not about wealth but about a heart transformed by God's grace and a willingness to trust Him with our resources.Through practical applications and biblical insights, this study encourages believers to embrace giving as an act of worship and a way to reflect God's love. Whether you're looking to grow in stewardship or deepen your understanding of generosity, this lesson provides powerful tools to honor God with your gifts.
This is message 12 in the 2 Corinthians series 2 Corinthians 7:1-16 Paul explains three levels of Christian giving: tithing, giving above the tithe, and grace giving, which is sacrificial giving for missions and projects beyond the local church. He highlights the Macedonian churches as an example of sacrificial giving despite their poverty, and points to Jesus as the ultimate example of generosity. Paul emphasizes that grace giving starts with a willing heart, and should be done with integrity and accountability, as demonstrated by Titus and his companion. Ultimately, giving is a demonstration of love and faithfulness to God's work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 / June 13-17, 2024 When grace fuels us to forgive someone who has offended us, we abundantly release every hint of any offence. When grace is cultivated in our relationship with a friend, an abundance of bountiful freedom marks our friendship. The same bountiful abundance occurs when grace is the motivating factor prompting our giving. In other words, living by faith includes giving by grace. From the Series: Hilarious Generosity read more
