Exodus 33:18-23 — Revivals are exceptional and unusual. They are rare moments in which God's glory passes by in an especially sensible way. In this sermon on the sovereignty of God in revival from Exodus 33:18–23, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones points out that Moses experienced a moment like this on the top of Mt. Sinai where he was able to know the character of God. There may be times when Christians are drawn towards the spectacular—this is innate in human beings. Dr. Lloyd-Jones challenges the listener not to seek the spectacle that comes with revival, but rather to seek to know the character of God. Dr. Lloyd-Jones gives a helpful overview of the various names of God in order to show how they inform who God is. For instance, when God calls Himself “I AM,” He declares Himself as the self-existent, everlasting One. God establishes a covenant with His people, and it is based completely upon who He is. He is the righteous redeemer who loves His own. By His grace and in His sovereignty, God chooses when revival comes, where it comes, and to whom it comes. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones preaches on the sovereignty of God in revival.

When God met Moses at the burning bush, and Moses asked Who was sending Him to Egypt, God called Himself "I AM". This indicated that He is the essence of all existence, and the Only God, Who is over everyone and all things. This Name--THE Name of God--is YHWH, which we pronounce Yehova, and is so sacred that the Jews won't say or write it. In a time when God's Name is abused by culture, we can draw strength that He is the Master of all, but also the Personal God Who is present for His people. Jesus shocked everyone when He claimed to be the incarnation of the I AM who met with Moses. All through the Gospel of John, Jesus called Himself I AM. In this story, Jesus stated, "I am the light of the world." Pick up your Bible or phone and turn to John 8 to hear the story. For those who use God's Word for Life curriculum, the Bible passage focused on in this episode comes from God's Word for Life, Summer 2024, entitled, "The Light of the World" (July 7, 2024). Jesus said of Himself: I Am the Way and The Truth and The Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). How a person receives this statement makes all the difference in the world. How we handle The Truth of Jesus changes everything, and being off by just a fraction can

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Reading is delivered by Rumenta Gita Fransisca and meditation delivered by Sarah Angelique from Saint Peter's School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Genesis 3: 13-20; Rs psalm 105: 1.5.8-9.24-25.26-27; Matthew 11: 28-30 KNOWING GOD THROUGH HIS NAME The theme for our meditation today is: Knowing God through His Name. Yesterday we were reminded of knowing God Himself through the names of Israel's ancestors who were so united with the heavenly God. In this manner, Moses was able to directly associate himself with his own ancestors because of the faith they had radically lived out to its fulness. Today the book of Exodus leads us to know God by His own name. This recognition is obtained by touching God's very own self, namely by mentioning His name. To Moses God introduced His own name as He said: "I am who I am". Such a God is singular as He said “I AM”, that means, a personal God in principle. The pronoun "I" refers to a totally single in the self and cannot be added or paired with anything else to describe it. For example, there is a man known to many of us. His name is Matthew, he is a man, a teacher, an educated person, a family man and many other identifications about him. There are so many elements attached to him to identify what and who he is. However, God does not use these complementary elements because He is already perfect and complete. So God calls Himself “I AM” meaning that He is perfect and total. God is eternal or only one. For the name "I" which affirms the principle in oneself, there is no sense of selfishness or arrogance in person of God. It's only God who can say that because He is almighty and all powerful. With this conception of God, Moses and all of us acquire a privilege of having the grace from Him so that we are able to bring God's power to face all kinds of evil and enemy that constantly do against His will, even to the point of defeating them. For us human beings, when we recognize only ourselves, rely only on our own ego, we surely will become so weak in the face of challenges, difficulties or enemies. Obviously this is very contradictory with the revelation of God's own ego or self. The revelation and affirmation of the "I" for God was also made by the Son of God, namely Jesus Christ, especially when He always says in His teaching: "I say to you". It's here that Jesus affirms or states the name of God when He proclaims the Word. Jesus never says in this way: "Jesus says to you". This affirmation of “I” to Himself, also means to bring all those who hear and believe to come to Him, to live with Him and to practice His way of life. Today Jesus invites us to come to Him to increase in ourselves the richness of His mercy. He says this to us: "Come to me, for I am gentle and humble of heart." Let us always believe and rely on God's name as He says of Himself “I”. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O generous and merciful God, we thank You from our deepest hearts for You show us Yourself in a Person, may we always rely on your goodness and power. Glory to the Father... In the name of the Father.... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Jesus did not claim to just be another prophet, rabbi, or spiritual teacher. He did not say that He was one of many ways to achieve enlightenment or eternal life. Jesus called Himself "I AM" and He said, "No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). But nothing of what Jesus taught or stated matters unless He rose from the grave. Easter celebrates the confirmation of all that Jesus spoke and did. It also celebrates the awe-inspiring reality that Jesus is with us always as our Resurrected Lord. He is Risen! -- Pastor Luke

“Apart from me, you can do nothing.” Strong, but true words from Jesus in John 15:5. We must stay connected to the Vine! This week, we are looking at a few “I am” passages out of the Gospel of John. These verses are so important because they answer a question all the way back from the book of Exodus. When Moses stood at the burning bush and talked to God, he asked Him His name. What would God say? What does He call Himself? “I Am.” That is the name God gives to Moses. God calls Himself the Great I Am. But that seems incomplete, doesn’t it? I am… what? Fast forward thousands of years. Jesus comes along and starts making these “I am” statements. He is doing two things. First, Jesus is claiming to be God. We know this because when He makes an I am statement, the religious leaders freak out. They know exactly what Jesus is saying. Second, I believe Jesus is filling in the blanks to the questions we would naturally have. I am…? Remember, the Bible says Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law, of the old covenant. I believe the I am passages are a perfect example of this. Jesus answers the I Am statement. Today, our One Verse is out of John 15:5. In it, Jesus says, “I am the vine...apart from me you can do nothing.” Strong words from Jesus. But it’s a beautiful picture that shows His statement is absolutely true.
