In this thought-provoking episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty sits down with Constance Hastings, a mental health counselor and ordained clergy member, to explore the tension between faith, doubt, and healing. Raised outside of faith but eventually drawn into ministry, Constance shares her powerful journey of encountering Jesus in unexpected ways. From struggling with skepticism to embracing faith, she unpacks why Jesus remains a controversial yet deeply personal figure. We also discuss how religious institutions have sometimes caused harm, why choice is essential in faith, and how God's persistent call often meets us in the most unexpected places. Whether you've been burned by religion or are simply curious about spirituality's role in mental well-being, this episode is an eye-opener. About the Guest: Constance Hastings is a mental health counselor, ordained clergy, and the author of The Trouble with Jesus. She brings a unique perspective, having navigated both secular and faith-based worlds. Through her work, she helps individuals reconcile faith with emotional healing and challenges conventional religious narratives. Key Takeaways: ✅ Faith is a Journey, Not a Destination – Struggles with doubt are normal and often necessary for growth.✅ Choice Matters in Faith – True faith cannot be forced; it must be embraced willingly.✅ Jesus' Message Was Radical – He uplifted the marginalized, challenged the powerful, and prioritized love over legalism.✅ Religious Trauma is Real – Many have been hurt by institutions misusing faith, but that doesn't mean God isn't real.✅ Mental Health & Spirituality Intersect – Deep healing happens when we examine ourselves fully—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.✅ God's Call is Persistent – Even when we try to walk away, we might still feel drawn toward something greater than ourselves. What does it look like to trust Jesus fully and to be His follower? In our Find and Follow series, we are learning that following Jesus means we learn to trust Him with our lives and help others trust Him with theirs, too. Last week, we learned why studying the Bible is crucial to growing our relationship with Jesus. We cannot follow someone we do not know. This week, we are learning about life with Jesus through prayer. Prayer allows us to grow in our relationship with God because we grow to know Him and understand His love. Religion is always at work to change us from the outside in, but prayer brings us back to a place of God's work inside of us to love Him and others. Prayer grows our dependence upon God and gives us strength to live His love in our broken and hurting world as His followers. Why is Jesus delaying his return? This very real, felt question isn't limited to first-century believers. Just look at the world around you. Evil is rampant. There's violence and mass shootings and terror. There's brokenness and pain and suffering. The innocent are oppressed while the wicked prosper. High rise moguls get rich while the assaulted are shunned. We can't help but wrestle with the same question. What's taking Jesus so long to return and right all wrongs? Peter for 7 chapters has been laboring and preparing to answer this question. To give us a living hope in a world that's falling apart. Today in 2 Peter 3 we're going to see how to make it to the end of this journey, no matter the storms that come or how tattered this ship gets, still sailing with King Jesus until I arrive at the sea shores of Heaven. Jesus found the church in Philadelphia in Revelation irresistible for 4 reasons… REASON 1. THEY FOCUSED ON ETERNITY Revelation 3:7-8 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens…” THE CHURCH TODAY THAT JESUS FINDS IRRESISTIBLE has a faith that is risky and gives sacrificially to redeem lives eternally. That is the church where Jesus will open doors of opportunity! REASON 2. THEY HAVE A HEART OF HUMILITY Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength…” THE CHURCH TODAY THAT JESUS FINDS IRRESISTIBLE recognizes its complete dependency on God. The church today always needs a vision that demands divine intervention that keeps us in a state of desperation. REASON 3. THEY STAND ON BIBLICAL AUTHORITY Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word…” THE CHURCH TODAY THAT JESUS FINDS IRRESISTIBLE knows the Bible is absolutely true and its final authority. REASON 4. THEY HOLD HIGH CHRIST'S SUPREMACY Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name…” THE CHURCH TODAY THAT JESUS FINDS IRRESISTIBLE knows that Jesus has no equal in this world of many “deities.” He is the way to God exclusively! John 14:6, “I am the way…” Acts 4:12, “There is no other name under heaven…by which we must be saved…” The Church today must believe in Christ's supremacy and the complete sufficiency of His finished work at Calvary! Join Abundant Life as Pastor Phil Hopper encourages the church of today by looking at the church of Philadelphia in Revelation and why Jesus found them irresistible. Today we are going to be talking about “the people that were there at the very beginning of Creation and hear a fresh account of how they fit into God's unfolding plan of redemption.” Most Christians are familiar with the opening words of Genesis: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,” But beyond those iconic words, sometimes things can seem a little hazy. Our guest today, Dan Darling, author of the book “The Characters of Creation,” will be talking about the men and women present at the beginning of the world and help clear up some of the questions that may arise when we read through this beautiful book of beginnings—Genesis.Coffee and Bible Time Prayer JournalCoffee and Bible Time Prayer BinderCoffee and Bible Time CoursesFaithful Counseling (sponsor) - Get 10% off your first monthAlabaster Co. - Use promo code CBTPROMO for 10% offWebsite: danieldarling.comBook: The Characters of CreationBible: CSB VersionBible CommentaryThe Voice of the MartyrsSOLID Saturdays: Prayer + InspirationThis podcast gives you SOLID truth, prayer, + inspiration that will rejuvenate you.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Abide in Jesus Find hope, encouragement and a deeper relationship with Christ Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show
