In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced city, it's easy to get caught up in the noise and chaos. Yet, amidst the challenges we face—be it economic uncertainties, mental health struggles, or the pressures of daily life—there's a timeless wisdom that calls us to find strength in stillness. Isaiah 30:15b reminds us: *"...in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it."* Let this be a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and find peace in the quiet moments. In a world that demands instant results, let's embrace the power of a quieted soul. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! We would love to get to know you. Of David. My heart is not proud, LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quietened myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and for evermore.
In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced lives, it's easy to forget the profound gifts we've received. As we navigate through the challenges and changes in Hong Kong, let's take a moment to reflect on the power of forgiveness, restoration, and the great grace of God through the confidence of Psalm 103:2: "Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” In these times of rapid technological advancements and societal shifts, may we remember to anchor ourselves in gratitude and faith. God's grace is a constant, guiding us through every trial and triumph. Let's embrace His forgiveness and allow it to restore our hearts and communities. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
This week, we look at how when the going gets tough, the tough remember the promise in James 1:12: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Let us continue to find strength and encouragement as we persevere. The crown of life awaits those who remain steadfast in their faith and love for the Lord. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! We would love to get to know you. Ploughmen have ploughed my back and made their furrows long. But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.' May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame. May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow; a reaper cannot fill his hands with it, nor one who gathers fill his arms. May those who pass by not say to them, ‘The blessing of the LORD be on you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.'

In a fast-paced world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and question the significance of our daily efforts. But remember what God says in Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the city, let's embrace the unique purpose God has for each of us. Whether it's through acts of kindness, community service, or simply being a light in someone's life, our work has eternal value. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! Of Solomon. Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

In these fast-paced times, may we find true and lasting joy by trusting in the God of hope, especially as we navigate the instant world around us, we continue to pray that the power of the Holy Spirit fill us with overflowing joy and peace. No matter what challenges we face, the Lord will sustain us and empower us to be disciples who spread His light. Indeed, as Romans 15:13 reminds us, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The LORD has done great things for them.' The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
This week, in the hustle of Hong Kong's vibrant streets, amidst the towering skyscrapers and the relentless pursuit of success, we've found a moment of profound liberation. Matthew 13:44 reminds us that, "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” And here, In a city that never sleeps, where the race for more can be all-consuming, we've discovered that true wealth isn't found in the material, but in the spiritual treasures that await us. We are not alone in our discipleship journey. Together, we have escaped the fleeting and embraced the everlasting. Let's continue to seek the hidden treasures in our lives and in our city. Of David. If it had not been the LORD who was on our side —let Israel now say— if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when our enemies attacked us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
This week, we reflect on the words from Micah 7:7 as we navigate the complexities of our time: "But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me." This passage speaks to the heart of our city, encouraging us to look forward with hope and trust in the midst of uncertainty. In the stillness of anticipation, we find strength and reassurance that our voices are heard, and our aspirations are not forgotten. Indeed, we wait together, not in idleness, but in active hope, for a future where our city shines brighter than ever before. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt. We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.
This Sunday, we embrace "The Power of Worship" and the profound peace it brings, as promised in Philippians 4:7: "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Amidst the hustle and ever-changing tides of our city, worship stands as a beacon of hope, a practice that goes beyond Sunday rituals—it's a transformative force that renews our spirit daily. It's in worship that we find the strength to rise above our challenges, to see beyond the turmoil, and to anchor ourselves in the steadfast love and sovereignty of God. Of David. I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. That is where the tribes go up— the tribes of the Lord—to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel. There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.
This Sunday, we will begin a new series that explores how to be a disciple in an instant world. In our busy city, where every second counts, we face a choice in our spiritual walk: to be pilgrims or tourists. As pilgrims, we embark on a journey of discipleship, delving deep into the heart of our faith, committing to a path that shapes our very being. As tourists, we may only skim the surface, seeking instant gratification without the transformative experience. Yet no matter the pace of our city or the instant nature of our world, nothing can sever the bond we share with the divine as Romans 8:38-39 so aptly puts it: For I am convinced that neither death nor life [...] nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

What affect does our "instant" world have on our theology and our relationship with God? AJ and Nijay process the dangers of knee-jerk theological engagement on social media and the urge to resolve theological tensions in our lives in general. Does the Bible encourage slow formation? Why? How? To what end?
In this last sermon from the God Our Shelter series, Pastor Greg Whaley takes us to Hebrews 2 for a message entitled "Incarnation in an Instant World." When crises come, we would rather shrink away from the broken world around us rather than entering into the brokenness and sharing the Christ life in us with the world. And yet, entering in (living incarnationally) is and always has been the will of the Father. Jesus did not withdraw from becoming like us in His Incarnation and He calls each of us to live in the same way. Where the mission meets the needs is the faith-filled soul. This message was delivered on Sunday, May 31, 2020. This podcast is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, Louisiana. Thank you for listening!
