After a trip to check out universities and starting the admissions process to enroll into medical school, Albert and Charles end up in Walnut Grove. Where, once again, the area is having to work through another economic crisis. This visit home is great if it wasn't for these pesky nose bleeds that have started to become more frequent in Albert's life. However, the nose bleeds are an indication that something wicked this way comes for Albert and nothing will be able to help him. This is not the the visit home anyone expected. When is Miss Etta Plum's wedding date? Do the writers ever remember anyone's correct name? How reliable is Laura as a narrator? What truly determines success in creating lasting change? Contrary to popular belief, it's not motivation, willpower, or even your inherent abilities. The research reveals something far more fundamental: your ecosystem shapes your outcomes far more than your genetic makeup. Your zipcode matters more than your genetic code. How do we shape ecosystems that bring the best in us? From Silicon Valley entrepreneurial ecosystems to Blue Zones where centenarians thrive. The social dimension of change proves particularly powerful, with studies showing proximity to high performers can boost your productivity by 15%, while nearby low performers can decrease it by 30%. When designing for sustainable change – whether for yourself, your team, or your organization – we often focus on motivation and clear communication. But what happens when energy wanes, time disappears, and routines get disrupted? This episode introduces the critical concept of "guardrails" – systems designed specifically to prevent failure when people are at their worst. Ready to transform how you approach change? Discover why social accountability outperforms willpower, how to design ecosystems that naturally encourage positive behaviors, and practical strategies for creating guardrails that catch people when they fall. Whether you're a leader driving organizational transformation or someone committed to personal growth, these research-backed tools will fundamentally change how you approach the change process. Listen now to build systems that make change stick – even when the going gets tough. Dear Spinning Circle,Today. On Wool n' Spinning Radio. Debbie Held is a freelance journalist that I had the immense pleasure meeting in person in 2022, after following each other online for many years. Debbie's love of blending boards started in 2015 when she began playing with this humble fibre preparation tool and began pushing it to its limit. While our conversation covered many topics about how Debbie began her spinning journey with a spindle from a friend in a time of need, to writing her book, The Spinner's Blending Board Bible, to reflecting on what might be next, we really had a discussion about life. What will each of us do when the going gets tough? Truly, Debbie's answer is that the tough get going. Her work is incredible and hope you have a look at her Instagram account, @doodler01.***If you would like to be a guest on Wool n' Spinning Radio, please reach out to Rachel [at] welfordpurls [dot] com.Until next month, keep wool close and your spindles closer!Warmly,Rachel

When trouble hits, as it will inevitably do, the fight or flight instinct will kick in. Regardless whether it is your fault or not, here lies an opportunity for you to show the world how valuable a relationship with you actually is. "I had nothing to do with that," and "It wasn't my fault and therefore not my concern," are the knee jerk responses of so-called service providers who just "don't get it." Think of yourself as a lifeguard, or foreperson before turning your back on "opportunity." Take a listen and begin considering all new challenges as a ticket to move to the front row.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Life's challenges can feel overwhelming, but even in the midst of the toughest storms, it's possible to keep moving forward. In this episode, I share 7 practical and powerful ways to stay inspired when life feels heavy. Whether you're facing grief, addiction, or life's unexpected twists, these strategies will help you find the courage to keep going and the hope to thrive.
Hi Mamas. This week I'm talking about grief. The grief that's in me and I'm guessing may also be in you. We have the grief that comes from our personal lives/mothering, and then there is the grief that comes from knowing about the harm and loss that is occurring in the world around us – and from feeling unable to change that. It's been a big year of loss and atrocities, and as we approach the holiday season in a post US election moment – I'm REALLY feeling it. So I'm briefly talking about grief this week and then I'm re-sharing a being-with-grief practice that I shared in June of 2023. This practice is to support you in acknowledging, hearing and feeling the parts within you that are holding grief. It is not intended to help you “fix” your grief, because there is nothing to be fixed. We are human after all, and part of being human is grieving. It's all about being with.I am planning to host a free online gathering for mamas in the next few weeks with the wonderful Kelly Wright who works alongside me. The aim is to explore as a community what it might look like to be with our feelings/parts and how we might do that. If you are interested in joining us, please join my mailing list HERE so you get notified when we've organised a date. I hope this episode provides just what you are needing at this time. Message by Damean Easter on June 22, 2024. We are at the point in John's vision where time is running out for the people of earth. The sixth trumpet has sounded, resulting in a third of the earth's population being wiped out. Can it get any worse? The answer is yes, it does get worse, but before it does, we are given a pause in the pandemonium. Chapter 10 records that pause and it is in the pause that we see what believers are called to do when times get tough.
