Is the film epic OR just the running time? Why were the enlisted men happy Guinness didn't have to work? Is it better to be crammed in a box alone or with 8 guys? Is love really all we need? Can Holden act? Are you whistling the song in your head right now? All these questions and more get answered on this week's Mazan Movie Club podcast. James P. Connolly stops by the crib in Burbank. We talk about whether you should tip hotel staff, our respective experiences on America's Got Talent, and his time as a Marine (although he makes it clear you're ALWAYS a Marine).
From 2009: I was stuck in the car, waiting to pick my wife up at work, tuning around the Sirius radio dial, looking for laughs. I had already heard the Howard Stern show earlier in the day and went a few clicks past him and landed on the Blue Collar comedy channel. The voice I heard—the inflection, particularly—sounded like Steve Martin. It wasn’t him, but the performer had me laughing the way I used to laugh 30 years ago upon hearing new material from Martin. This was a fellow named James P. Connol
It's the weekend "Things To Do" version of the #SHOWcast today...starting with comedian and host James P. Connolly. James is hosting Variety Show 2017, Saturday night at Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland. It's a benefit for our friends at Variety, helping kids across Kansas City who need adaptive wheelchairs, iPads, playground equipment and more. Get out there is you can - it's a great cause! Also this week, #TheShowKC talked with local designer Ami Beck who founded Dolyn Bags. Her purses and bags will be on full display during Saturday's night edition of KC Fashion Week #KCFW. If you want to get behind a great area talent, Ami is one to watch! Finally, you could kick back with the comedy of Eleanor Kerrigan, appearing at Stanford's Friday and Saturday. Eleanor has done a lot of work with Andrew Dice Clay, was once involved in wrestling and has an interesting worldview. Enjoy this edition of the SHOWcast and have a great weekend!
This week, in honor of LaughFest you get two bonus interviews. Last year I was honored to perform in the clean comedy showcase during the festival. It was a blast and I got to work with several great comedians. You've already heard the interviews with Andy Hendrickson, Pat McGann, and James P. Connolly. This week I am releasing the two remaining interviews Tony Deyo and Robert Mac. Robert Mac has put in two decades behind the mic but hit his stride the last seven years or so as he developed a persona on stage who is both confident and clueless at the same time. Now a Comedy Central veteran, we discuss his his time in the San Francisco comedy scene the benefits of being able to write for t.v. and the value of pursuing different niches Check out RobertMac.com for more and be sure to watch his Comedy Central Clip! NOTE: The sound quality is a little off since I was recording without stellar producer Gavin Miller. But, they are great comics and both had a lot of insight for beginners and established comedians alike. == If you enjoy this PODCAST please subscribe in iTunes or STITCHER and leave a comment and ranking. Comedian Tony Deyo began his comedy career during a brief stint in Austin while he was also a full-time middle school band instructor. Realizing he would regret not trying to live his dream Tony took a local comedy class that helped him get the courage to get onstage and pursue stand-up comedy. Now, with an appearance on CONAN under his belt he's marching his way across the country commanding one stage after another.
