Why we love Jamie: Jamie is a health & lifestyle coach who guides women through the powerful process of courageously mastering their lives through one core element: taking exceptional care of their whole selves. She believes that through supreme self-care (mental, emotional, physical, and soulful), we're able to cultivate a life in which we feel resilient, powerful, and deeply joyful. She has helped thousands of women through her coaching, retreats, events and online courses. On the pod we discuss: Her 4-part framework for teaching deep self-care (so smart!) How part of being a human is to feel all the feelings instead of trying to numb them, which is hard sometimes. How she went from an uninspiring career in finance to running her own business full-time. Why she believes that diets are such a slippery slope and how to climb out from under all the crap we stack on ourselves about food. What we can do if we find ourselves emotionally dependent on food. The reason food issues are so hard to overcome. How we can benefit from using our relationship with food as a portal to deeper healing. Why it’s so important to get to know yourself well enough to protect yourself from even expert advice sometimes. How creating a ‘pleasure calendar’ helped her climb out of a poor body image place Why waiting on the weight will never work (and how to stop.) Why searching for the evidence you need in life is one of the most important habits we can cultivate. And so much more. Deep self-care can mean different things for different women, but Jamie’s Self-Care Manifesto is one of the most complete descriptions I’ve seen out there that has me screaming from the rooftops that YOU can accomplish it! Imagine…expressing yourself completely, showing your wild side, talking to yourself with kindness and compassion, doing more of what makes you happy and less of what doesn’t. Don’t just dream about it…make it a reality! Jamie offers tips that you can put into practice immediately, but I guarantee you’ll be begging for more by the time you get to the end of this podcast interview. We had a great time together and that really comes through during our visit. Kick sugar to the curb, get out of your own head, believe in yourself this holiday season and into the new year with Jamie Mendell.
I wanted to bring this year-old episode back to life… give it a new opportunity to hit your ears and sink into your head and heart because it contains incredibly valuable little golden nuggets for navigating the holidays with your sanity and jean buttons in tact. This is a chat with Jamie Mendell, who is a self-care lifestyle coach that’s in love with showing people how to lovingly care for themselves. After struggling with her own food problems for 10+ years, Jamie Mandell had a mind-blowing and binge stopping and weight-dropping revelation….that it wasn’t actually a food problem or a need-more-willpower struggle that she had, but rather: a self-care deficiency. Which is a term that I officially coined. I loved talking to Jamie about how we can slip more self-care into the holiday shuffle because if ever is a time that we have food struggles, it’s during the holidays. And thus, if ever is a time to hear this episode, it’s now. Get ready to hear: why Jamie is so passionate about teaching self-care how a self care deficiency could potentially be a cause of holding extra weight the 411 about the 4 components of self care: mental, emotional, physical, soulful how to have more confidence in an instant a step-by-step self-care regimen for a holiday and lots more! I met Jamie last year through my best friend Simi who raved about her. We met when I was in town for my book launch and stayed in touch over the internet. When I moved to NYC I new Jamie was one of the people I was dying to get to know more and eventually record a podcast conversation with. While we'd only hung out a handful of times, speaking to her felt like speaking to an old friend. The conversation flowed with ease and meandered into a million directions from intuitive eating to making big decisions, uncertainty that comes with them, self-care, body image, eating disorders, comparison, self awareness, and career transitions. I caught up with Jamie in a really pivotal moment in her life, she's in a new romantic relationship and about to move away from the east coast for the first time. I can't get enough of Jamie, we had dinner last week and her chill energy, sound advice, and earnestness is magnetic. We recorded this in her Manhattan apartment a couple weeks ago, hope you love listening as much as I loved recording it.
