Drummers Angel Cotte of Demolition Hammer & Them, John Longstreth of Origin, and instructor at the Collective of music in NY Tobias Ralph talk the ways we’re all dealing with the lockdown, where we’ve gone (if anywhere), practice regimens and indoor make-shift set-up’s, cognitive sharpening, teaching remote lessons, the real danger of cover 19 being the waste line and liver, Longstreth’s cookie recipe theory, some Queensryche dorkery, Angel playing double bass and single strokes to children programs, the insane era of progressive music recorded to tape, awkward meetings with our idols, our top three drummers of the tops of our heads, the time John saw a musician slowly consume a hamburger while playing his set, our holy trinity of drummers, & a whole lot o’ goofin’ off!
If I had to pick, my Mount Rushmore of Death Metal drummers, it would be Patrice Hamelin from Beneath the Massacre, Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel, Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy and today’s guest, John Longstreth of Origin as well as Skinless, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Crator, Angelcorpse, Exhumed and the Red Chord. John Longstreth, is currently considered one of the most proficient drummers in the modern Death Metal musical scene. It was intriguing to speak with a veteran like John about how he developed his captivating drumming technique and style. We also explore what goes into creating extreme music.
