In this episode of Beat Motel, Andrew Culture and Dr Sam, aka "Spamuel Rage," dive headfirst into music, madness, and musings with their signature punk rock attitude and chaotic humour. From noise gigs that leave them temporarily deaf to exploring the wildest genre mashups, the hosts passionately share the bands they wish they could have been part of. Expect raucous riffs, personal stories, and more than a few tangents about life, music, and everything in between. **Key Highlights:** - **Noise Gig Gone Wrong:** Andrew shares a wild story from the front row of a deafening noise gig, featuring Pikachu costumes and experimental post-rock. - **Riffs of the Week:** Dr Sam kicks things off with Pyron's experimental riff, and Andrew follows up with Wolfheart's metal anthem, "Death Leads to the Way." - **Bands We Wish We Were In:** The main theme of this episode is all about bands that inspire, from No Means No to the Stone Roses, Queen, and the Misfits. Discover what makes each band special and why they'd be on the Beat Motel dream roster. - **Music Philosophy and Absurd Moments:** Ever wondered if free jazz and death metal broke up the Beatles? Or how about theories on why Queen are just too good to hate? Andrew and Dr Sam break it all down, with plenty of laughs along the way. - **Ipswich Anecdotes:** Expect tales about Ipswich, where teeth are apparently shared among the locals, leading to some top-notch banter about the joys (and struggles) of the town. - **The Art Punk Thrust:** The hosts get philosophical about what "art punk" truly means and explore how punk bands like The Slits, Adam and the Ants, and even Minutemen changed the genre forever. - **Musical Discoveries & Influences:** The Stone Roses channelling Bow Wow Wow? Absolutely. How Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. & the MG's fame could have been playing bass on the _Test Match Special_ theme tune? You bet. And of course, plenty of love for the 12-inch era of records and a nostalgic dive into discovering music before TikTok. - **Waitresses on a Plane:** A hilarious riff on Ian Brown's airline escapades and why being a bellend gets you remembered (for all the wrong reasons). - **Sunburnt Bumcheeks & Hat Mancock:** Yes, these topics come up. And yes, they're as ridiculous as they sound. **Who Should Listen?** If you're a punk, noise rock, or post-punk fan—or you just want to laugh at irreverent commentary on music and life—this episode is a must-listen. From high-energy discussions to outrageous humour, Andrew and Dr Sam will keep you entertained and craving more. ### Riffs of the week #### Dr Sam's Riff - Pyrrhon - The Greatest City on Earth (opening) #### Andrew's Riff - Wolf Heart - Death Leads the Way (2:45) ### Dr Sam's track choices 1. Two hours of heavy metal news, interviews, and (most importantly) music with Terry and Xan, produced by Manawatū People's Radio with the support of New Zealand On Air.
Interview by Kris PetersThey say good things come to those who wait, and if that's the case, Gold Coast melodic technical death metal outfit Snake Mountain have some damn fine times ahead of them.Rather than trying to force themselves onto the international support rollercoaster from the outset, Snake Mountain have preferred to bide their time, practising, waiting, and networking until they felt their product was of high enough standard to put out there. It has been a long and sometimes painful path to the open market, but one gets the impression it will bear the fruits of progress much sooner rather than later. In recent months, Snake Mountain have opened for international heavyweights Fleshgod Apocalypse and Wolfheart, as well as teaming up with Australian royalty in Black Rheno and Witchgrinder, in the process proving their suitability and diversity on any metal lineup as long as it's loud.Following the release of two crushingly brutal singles - Everliving and Extinction Through Fire - Snake Mountain are in the final stages of the long-awaited release of their debut EP Villainous 1: Reverence on July 5. Not content to give the fans new music, the boys have also announced a string of shows along the East Coast over June, July and August so they can share their musical triumphant far and wide.HEAVY cornered Snake Mountain frontman Neville Pearce to find out more."I'm pretty excited about it," he measured when asked about the looming release date. "And I am nervous for people to hear it because I guess it represents where we've been. It's part of a bigger picture that we're trying to paint. We put a lot into it - it's only four tracks - but it shows the different mini-era's of the band and the different members influences that have weaved in and out throughout that time. And I'm really proud of that. That's exactly what the title is in reference to is paying those respects."We ask Pearce to dive deeper into the music side of the EP."It's - as we said before - each song represents, not only the members, but I guess the year they were written," he explained. "The first track, Extinction Through Fire, which we recently released digitally, goes right back to the beginning with Dan Maynard. Then we've got Hunted which was with Dan Maynard, and we have that one with Jamie and Dario then it goes on to All Of Eternia which was Dario and Jamie, and it progresses from there onto the last track Everliving, which was the last single we released. You can sort of tell within those styles how the band has changed and where we've come to now. Which doesn't really represent who we are now with our technical stuff, but it's definitely part of the journey." In the full interview, Neville discusses the length of time it took Snake Mountain to release their debut EP and why, the timeline of each song and what part of the band's history it represents, scoring support slots and what it means to the band, the guest artists on the EP and what they brought to the sound, his transformation from one of the good guys off-stage to a raging demon on, their upcoming shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

We chatted with Tuomas about how Before the Dawn resurrected, what the process has looked like, what he has observed in the music industry and emerging bands over the years, and his opinion on being on a label in today's scene! When Before The Dawn went on hiatus a little over a decade ago the chances of the band ever reuniting was slim to say the least.Plagued by line-up changes and label problems, the band were imploding at a rapid rate, losing the most important thing of all.Hope.Now, fast forward a decade, and Before The Dawn return triumphant with a new vocalist and revamped line-up as well as a blistering new album Stormbringers, which was released on June 30.Described as seeing Before The Dawn "back stronger than ever", Stormbringers is more than just another comeback album. It is sonic proof that music will always be the victor no matter how insurmountable the odds.Band founder Tuomas Saukkonen - in his first ever Australian interview - joined HEAVY to tell us more."It's been really good," he enthused of the early reception to the bands comeback album. "We were resting a little bit because... we did a few changes to the line-up. We changed the vocalist, who replaced actually two vocalists in the band - I used to be the frontman doing the growling vocals, but I started playing drums only. So there's big changes visually and also in the audio but it's been amazing so far."We press Tuomas on the musical components of Stormbringers."Well, if somebody is not familiar of our previous albums, I think the Finnish melancholy plays a huge part," he replied. "We are very sad people up here in the North (laughs). If you look at Finnish bands in general the melodies they make are quite gloomy, and Before The Dawn is no exception to that. But I think we are on the most positive side of Finnish metal. Our melodic death metal is quite stage friendly and more like rock and roll oriented, if that is allowed to be said about metal in general."In the full interview, Tuomas talks more about the album musically, their new vocalist and the unusual circumstances around which he came to be in the band, how the band has come back stronger, fears people may have forgotten about Before The Dawn during their hiatus, their upcoming tour with Wolfheart and Hinayana, Australian tour plans and more.

Tuomas Saukkonen of Wolfheart chats about metal bands and nature, 70000 Tons of Metal, and the bands newest release, " King Of The North." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brutally-delicious/message
All hail the KING OF THE NORTH. We are happy to welcome back frontman Tuomas Saukkonen on IUF from one of Finland's finest melodeath outfits, Wolfheart. The highly-anticipated 6th studio album, “King Of The North,” encompasses all the hard work the band has forged up until now. After releasing “Wolves Of Karelia '' and “Skull Soldiers” over the pandemic, Tuomas talks about his musical approach to following up those highly-praised albums, and how he and his bandmates may have just one-upped themselves yet again. A big part of this record deals with a change-up to add a few cleans into the tracks, making this Wolfheart's most diverse album ever. Bringing in the likes of other notable metal musicians such as Jesse Leach and Karl Sanders certainly added another layer in the album's arsenal, and Tuomas describes the planning process to bring Jesse and Karl into the production. Filled with a battlecry unmatched that will get your heart racing and the blood pumping, “King Of The North” serves as a quintessential addition to the melodic death metal genre that will be talked about for years to come. Tune in now to our conversation with Tuomas and be sure to buy and stream the new album from Wolfheart, out now worldwide via Napalm Records.Stay connected with Wolfheart, visit: https://www.facebook.com/WolfheartRealm/, https://www.instagram.com/wolfheartofficial/ and https://label.napalmrecords.com/wolfheartStay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

Metalheads!! A frozen blackened death album about the Winter War enters the dome by way of the Finnish group Wolfheart.
Groovy, heavy, atmospheric, melodic, acoustics, orchestral elements and everything else in-between. Finnish melodic death metal quartet, Wolfheart, bring their A-game with their latest work of art. We chat with frontman Tuomas Saukkonen as he describes the recording process of the last two records, the “Wolves Of Karelia” LP and the follow-up EP titled “Skull Soldiers”. Both seem to be perfect complementary albums to one another, and we dive into the themes and songwriting compositions that took place for Tuomas and his bandmates. Plenty of Finland's history ties into the thought patterns of the lyrics, and the country's war stories have always been an inspiration for Tuomas personally. We also talk about the live streaming experience that Wolfheart took part in, and even though it's not the ideal setup for them, they made the best of the worldwide situation, giving the music to the fans in any type of concert layout. Tune into our conversation with Tuomas now and make sure to buy/stream Wolfheart's newest dual epics, “Wolves Of Karelia” and “Skull Soldiers”, out now on Napalm Records.
