Back on the decks after a much-needed reset. My wonderful wife (Ros) surprised me with a trip to Porto! We made it back just in time for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. We caught some incredible sets from Billy Cobham, Kokoroko, and the absolute highlight for both of us was Daniel Casimir and his big band. This week's show, Weekend Commuter, is inspired by that whole experience. Travel, the music, the movement. It starts with Cobham's classic Stratus, into Kokoroko, Ashley Henry, and Casimir. Deep, soulful house selections are included from Yooks, Mr. V, and Miggedy Maestro and more… Hope you enjoy! Robbie Tracklist available at www.djrobbieduncan.com head to Elecsoul show 234

WUCF's April artist for ‘In the Key of Latin Jazz' is Tomás Martín López. Percussionist from Brooklyn who has worked with Louie Ramirez, Ray de la Paz, Billy Cobham and Oscar Hernandez. They say ‘the best things come in threes' and that is the case with “Right Here” - Lopez's latest record. Whether he's traveling globally to spread his love for the salsa scene or staying state side and collaborating with his brother – he is always attuned to the music.

This is the WORLD PREMIERE of “THE RICH ONES ALL STARS”, the new extended version of my recent single, “The Rich Ones”. The new version features me and my band, Project Grand Slam, along with 8 World Class musicians who previously have been guests on this podcast. Here's the back story.A few months ago I released a single, “The Rich Ones”, featuring Randy Brecker of Blood Sweat & Tears fame on flugelhorn. The single was very popular, and I decided to do something a bit daring and different. I've had many World Class musicians as guests on the podcast. So I asked several of them if they would record a new solo for the track and I would release a new, extended version of the tune. I'm pleased to say that everyone who I asked agreed. The new version, “The Rich Ones All Stars”, features the following musicians in this order.BILLY COBHAM of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame, recorded a new drum track for the tune. Billy is one of the most revered drummers of all time.I kept RANDY BRECKER'S flugelhorn solo from the original version of the tune because it's just so darn good.JOHN HELLIWELL was the saxophonist in Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. John contributed a fantastic sax solo to the piece.PAT COIL is an acclaimed jazz pianist who has performed with Michael McDonald, Carmen McRae and many others. He added a sublime piano solo.PETER TIEHUIS is the heralded Dutch guitarist who performs with the Metropole Orkest. He contributed a wonderful guitar solo.ANTONIO FARAO is the extraordinary Italian jazz keyboard player who has performed with Joe Lovano and Jack DeJohnette among others. Antonio contributed a smokin' Fender Rhodes keyboard solo.ELLIOTT RANDALL is the incredible guitarist who gave the world the unforgettable solo on Steely Dan's “Reelin' In The Years”. Elliott gave me a classic guitar solo for the new track. And last, but certainly not least, is DAVID AMRAM, who is, simply put, a National Treasure at 96 years young. He was Leonard Bernstein's first composer in residence for the New York Philharmonic and also the composer for Shakespeare In The Park among many other accomplishments. David contributed a stunning Pennywhistle solo for the track. So there it is. 8 World Class musicians who have contributed their talent to this project.TO WATCH THE OFFICIAL VIDEO CLICK HERETO LISTEN AND STREAM THE TRACK AND FOR ALL LINKS CLICK HERE---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. Send us a textJason Greenlaw grew up on the East Coast, just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor of arts in Jazz Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, studying guitar under Joe Negri and improvisation under Geri Allen, before moving to Colorado in 2020. He is currently based in the Denver/Boulder area of Colorado, where he focuses primarily on jazz guitar, playing in solo shows, small jazz combos, pit orchestras, and wedding bands. He is also a teacher, having taught hundreds of students ranging from 6 to 80 years old, and he loves inspiring passion for music in his audiences and his students.Greenlaw has been interested in music from a very young age. His first instrument was the violin in elementary school (around first or second grade), and he eventually picked up the alto saxophone, playing that instrument into middle school. By sixth grade, he switched to the guitar and never looked back. At that point, he started performing in the jazz band at the beginning of high school and delved into private music instruction outside of school.Greenlaw's private teacher started exposing him to more jazz music during that time, but it wasn't until he started and graduated college that he started performing it on a more serious level on his own. Especially in middle and high school, he also listened to 90s grunge music, and his dad loved classic rock, including Santana and Billy Cobham. In the end, though, jazz became his primary focus as he explored music more on his own. Thank you for listening to The Mountain-Ear podcast featuring the news and culture from peak to peak. Narada Michael Walden Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Wow! I've seen hundreds of photos, loads of videos - I've never seen Narada Michael Walden in an orange bowler. When was the last time I wore orange? InSync! From the first moment to the last, what a glorious, grateful, exuberant lovefest. Narada is as passionate, fun, inviting, and accessible as his music. We talked about his first paper drumkit at 5, how he watched, listened, and learned from his heroes. How the soul sounds of Detroit shaped him, how it's all soul sounds. From his first band at 11 to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, which would change his life in all ways… adding prayer. mediation, service, and Narada to his name, gifted by his guru, Sri Chinmoy, thanks to John McLaughlin, and of course, the music, following in Billy Cobham's big footsteps, touring with Jeff Beck, then recording Wired with him, writing “material” for the album, the full circle back to Beck a decade ago and the story behind their masterpiece version of Little Wing. Ah me! How playing transitioned to producing, inspired by Quincy Jones to service other artists, and the superstar women he championed to great heights - Aretha with their Grammy Song of The Year, Freeway of Love, Whitney with their 6 number one hits including their Grammy Winning Album of the Year, Mariah, with musical knowledge to match her musical chops. We talked our friend, Allee Willis, Keith Moon, Ringo, Jaco, Carlos, Sting, Trudy, Stevie, Marvin, Cissy, his last tour with Journey, and how his devotion to his wife and children brought him home. This very morning Narada was up at 6 readying his kids for school and then driving them there. This interview was held early so that he'd be home when they got home. Quite a man. Respect. For a taste of what Narada himself is up to musically, check out his The More I Love My Life https://bfan.link/the-more-i-love-my-life with Sting, Carlos, and Stevie, I can't stop listening! It seems to so sum up this man of grace. And while you're at it, watch this - and tear yourself away, if you can! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9UQbf_VoQI Perfection! Jeff, Narada, and Rhonda, do Jimi proud. This is a man as comfortable with pop, soul, funk, rock, and blues as he is with fusion. Brilliant with them all. Loving and appreciating them all, and, as his audience, I'll gratefully follow him to any of them. I loved every second in Narada's most excellent company. Grateful girl! Frenette's love of music started at the age of 5 while playing the bongos and listening to records with his parents. Artists like Perez Perado, Tito Puente, Herb Albert, Johnny Cash and Tom Jones were constantly spinning on the record player. By the age of 10, Matt was learning his rudiments in a marching and concert band. Some of Matt's early influences include Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Michael Shrieve, Danny Seraphine,Billy Cobham, and later influences include Manu Katche, Steve Gadd, and Richard Bailey. Frenette is a founding member of Streetheart and his legacy as the other half of one of rock's greatest rhythm sections is still a part of Canadian rock legend. Matt's fierce approach to every song and powerful grooves he created were a big part of the musical foundation that Streetheart built their unmistakable sound on in the early days. In 1979 Matthew left Streetheart to join Paul Dean's new band Loverboy. Originally, Matt Frenette played drums for a side-project band, Headpins while Bernie Aubin played drums for a fellow Vancouver band, the soon to be renamed Loverboy. But within months, Aubin and Frenette swapped bands, where each continues to play to the present Alongside fellow Loverboy founding members Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Doug Johnson, with Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve, Matt Frenette has been "Working for the Weekend" since forming in Calgary, Alberta over 36 years ago. Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling "Get Lucky." In 1982, as a member of Loverboy, Frenette went on to win a "still-record" six Juno awards. Matt's solid groove, versatile musicality and his visually exciting performance has created a demand for his appearance in many different artists' recordings, videos and tours, such as: Tom Cochrane, Bryan Adams, Kim Mitchell, Colin James and many other talented musicians. Bill Gibson began playing music at the age of seven. He found his passion for music when his father Ed Gibson, an architect by trade but a jazz drummer in his own right, began taking him to see such greats as The Count Basie Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, and The Buddy Rich Big Band. Inspired by big band jazz and rock & roll styles, Bill got his first drum kit at age fourteen, and began playing drums with local bands the following year. He soon became the drummer for Sound Hole and played his first tour in 1974 backing up Van Morrison. Bill is a founding member of Huey Lewis and the News, which he and other members of Sound Hole and the band Clover formed in 1979. 33 years later, the band is still going strong and has enjoyed enormous success with over 30 million albums sold worldwide, 19 top ten hits including "The Power of Love", "Stuck With You", and "Hip To Be Square", and multiple awards and award nominations. Bill remains an integral part of the band, lending his writing and singing talents as well as providing drums and percussion. Bill has been a Yamaha Drum Artist since 1985. It's hard to put into words what it means to meet your heroes. To be able hit record 5 minutes later and get to share that conversation with you is one of the prouder moments of my career. With stories about how he started out, practicing in a shed in Steve Smith's backyard, to walking into Electric Ladyland in New York City for a record date where the horn section was Michael and Randy Brecker and Barry Rogers, we cover a lot of ground in this conversation. John Tesh, Tracy Chapman, Chick Corea, Lee Ritenour, Vince Neal, Billy Cobham, Mike Stern, Vinnie Colaiuta, Frank Gambale, about a thousand other legendary recording artists grace the pages of Tim's career highlights. I hope this is the first of many times I get to pick Tim's brain and share it with you. The man is a treasure chest of knowledge and experience with some of the best music and bass related stories you could hope to hear. Hello Hello! Billy Amendola in my “Bubble” with today's guest, who is not only one of the most respected musicians/producers on the planet, but he's also been a mentor, an inspiration, and a dear friend to me for decades. He appeared on the scene in NYC from Michigan as a drummer and teacher. A few of his students include Omar Hakim, the late Tony Thompson, and many others who launched successful careers. At 21, he joined the Mahavishnu Orchestra on the recommendation of their previous drummer (who was at the top of his game with the title “greatest drummer”), the one and only Billy Cobham. Now a band-member, he goes from the road into the studio to work on the next Mahavishnu album with John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer, and legendary Beatles producer George Martin. A few years later, he took the world by storm on the dance floor by releasing his solo album; singing, writing, producing, and playing, and he became a star in his own right. If that wasn't enough, a few years later, he became one of the world's Top Ten producers of all time, crafting number-one hits for Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Cindy Blackman, the list goes on and on. With Multiple hit records, Grammy after Grammy, as a band leader, solo artist, producer, singer/songwriter, spiritual leader, and drummer, touring with Jeff Beck, Journey, and his band, there's nothing the man can't do. We catch up to discuss his latest album “Euphoria” and more. Please welcome Narada Michael Walden back to Drum Channel. Enjoy!
