Interview by Kris PetersMusic lovers and fans of blackened death metal outfit Sinsaenum had their pain tempered somewhat earlier this year when Joey Jordison's drum tech and personal friend, Andre Joyzi, was announced as the drummer to fill the void left by Jordison in the band.It was a romantic and logical choice to not only continue Jordison's legacy, but also to carry Sinsaenum into the exciting future they have always been destined for. But amid the public scrutiny and acceptance, Joyzi suddenly found himself answering to demons of his own when personal doubts and the weight of public expectation quickly replaced the sense of loss and grief that had dominated both the musical landscape and the waking thoughts of a person who had lost more than a friend. He had also lost a mentor, a muse, and someone who had played a major role in his musical journey.Despite his best efforts to concentrate on the future, Joyzi found himself living in the past, unable to fully embrace the plethora of options and possibilities that had now attached themselves to his life. What should have been a time for celebration, Joyzi's newfound path left him feeling vulnerable, lost, and perhaps a little scared. His grief became a walking time bomb with no thought for rhyme or reason, while the world around him seemed to move on.Now, for the first time, Joyzi is ready to share his story with the world. Share his feelings, but more importantly, purge his grief. A long-time friend of Joyzi's, HEAVY found ourselves in the unique position of being one of the outlets for his pain. A pain that also affected fans as far out as Australia, and one which needed to be discussed openly. Needed to be discussed without judgment. And needed to be voiced out loud. The result was a deeply personal and emotional interview for both parties, and one which Joyzi has granted permission for us to share with you.Like most drummers of the modern generation, Andre Joyzi was heavily influenced by Joey Jordison in his formative years behind the kit. But, as fate would have it, Joyzi would one day get to do the unthinkable for many aspiring musicians when he got to not only meet the man who had helped forge his path in music, but also work with and alongside that same person. It was a journey that quickly transformed into a friendship, but looking back on the day that in many ways changed his future, Joyzi still has that same twinkle in his eye that must have caught the attention and trust of Joey Jordison when they first met back in 2018 after Joyzi accepted the highly sought after position as Jordison's drum tech in Sinsaenum."It was in France on the first pre-production day of rehearsal for Sinsaenum's tour," Joyzi recalled, his eyes smiling almost as brightly as his lips. "I arrived and the band was already in the rehearsal space. When I got there Fred (Leclercq, who Joyzi had worked previously with in Dragonforce) came out and looked at me. We never really talked too much about the factor as in, 'oh my God, you're going to work with Joey' (laughs). It was just like, okay, I'm going to go and do my job. I was the tour manager as well, so I couldn't really let Joey know that I was a huge fan. That was the top priority. I kept telling myself on the whole journey that, as the tour manager, Joey cannot know that you're a huge fanboy. So I got there and I'm outside the room with my bags and Fred comes out and he just looked at me and he said, he's over there.I'm nervous as fuck to meet my hero but thought all right, here I go, and then I just walked in. I started speaking to Joey like I didn't know who he was. 'Hey, man. So how's it going? Let's set up your drums', and he was just really nice and easy to do everything with. So, yeah, I perfectly remember. We started setting up his drums straight away, just him and I, talking like two normal people. This process took two or three hours, and I was already past the, 'okay, I've just met my hero part' so I was in work mode. I said, 'Joey, do you mind sitting there and trying it? Trying your kit?' And he did and I remember I was looking somewhere else and Joey hit the snare and immediately I felt like, holy fuck, this is the guy I've been listening to my whole life. This is Joey Jordison! I can try to hit the snare - anyone in the world, you can hit the snare - but you will not sound like Joey. So at that moment I was like, 'fuck, this is the guy from all the Slipknot albums!' That was a really, really special moment, just unique. I'll never not be grateful for this opportunity."From there the relationship between Jordison and Joyzi became more personal, an inevitable friendship of two kindred spirits forged by time spent on the road together and a common love for music. Which is what made Jordison's passing in 2021 so much harder for Joyzi who had lost more than a collegue. He had also lost a close friend, ally and confidant. Respectfully, we ask Joyzi to describe Jordison as a person and what having him in his life meant."When I met Joey he had already gone through a lot," Joyzi recalled, his gaze distant. "By the time I met him he had had his years in Slipknot and been on top of the world. He had already left Slipknot and done a few other things and he was in a different place than that period. But essentially, he was the most positive person you could you could meet. It was all about love and he was a really friendly person. He knew that a small gesture from him meant the world to me or to any of his fans, and so he did it all the time. I think it was the first thing on his mind, making sure that if he could do something to make someone's day, he would. He was a really, really, really good person and he was incredibly passionate about music. If you wanted to get Joey talking bring up a name of a band - like Morbid Angel - and away you go (laughs). As a person he was a funny guy, with a great sense of humor, and his musical knowledge was incredible. Just a really positive person, really easy to work with. A lovely guy with a great heart and it's a very sad loss."Joyzi found himself in the unique position of having the best seat in the house to witness the spectacle that was Jordison's professionalism night after night. While his drumming will mean many different things to many different people, Joyzi put a large part of Jordison's universal appeal down to one factor."Personality," he replied without hesitation. "I think that is part of what's lacking in modern drummers; everyone sounds the same. (But) Joey sounds like Joey. That's it. He has his style. First of all, he revolutionized the world of metal drumming. Sometimes younger people may not know that, but Joey was the drummer that everyone my age looked up to. He changed the world of drumming.I was a nu metal basic drummer before I first heard Slipknot and immediately the goalposts changed by hearing Joey - and not just for me, but millions of people around the world. On the Sinsaenum tour I got a glimpse of what Joey's life was like. Every day, hundreds of fans wanted to tell him that they started playing drums because of him. You just cannot compare Joey to anyone else. He was a revolutionary drummer that changed metal drumming. But yeah, it was that moment when I heard him hit the snare for the first time… I think what was more special about his drumming is that he still sounded like himself. You know, that's what it is. But at the time he revolutionized metal by incorporating loads of different styles and doing things that hadn't been done until he came out."With Jordison's passing came a time for not only grief, but also reflection. Reflection on the man, his life, his legacy, and his music. Little thought or discussion was initially given to finding a replacement for him in Sinsaenum, with the mere suggestion that life could continue quickly as a band being incomprehensible. Such was the respect shown - and deserved - for Jordison that, for once, the rumour mills and speculations that generally surround the replacing of a fallen comrade in a band were rightfully quiet, with the decision on even if to continue being left to his bandmates without media scrutiny. When the news came in June 2025 that Sinsaenum would continue, it also came with the announcement of a new album - In Devastation - and a renewed commitment to do Jordison's life and memory proud. The man named to fill the void? Andre Joyzi. While the official announcement was welcomed by fans and peers the world over, the process of getting to that point was not easy for Sinsaenum or for Joyzi. It was never a matter of finding a fill in or like for like replacement. It was more about finding someone who could continue the upward trajectory of Sinsaenum while still paying respect to the band's original drummer. While it was not a decision made lightly by either the band nor Joyzi, it was one which Joyzi embraced with both hands, determined to pay homage to Jordison and his drumming in every conceivable way."To me there was no decision to be made," Joyzi shrugged. "The second Fred asked… all he said was, 'I wonder what Sinsaenum would sound like with you on drums'? But it was very complicated for me because the band wasn't auditioning other drummers. It was just either I can do it or I can't. And that was worse. I would rather lose to someone who's a better drummer than have a chance that's all yours and then you fuck it up (laughs). So I think there was a lot more pressure, but for me there was no decision to be made. I got the message from Fred and I said to myself, you either accomplish this, or you give up and you're a piece of shit. You're a useless drummer. So that's the standard I set, you're either a shit drummer or you got this and you put everything into that. So that's what I did and I immediately changed my life around it. I had help from my family, because it was during the pBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Podcast Review: “Between Demons and Despair: A Journey Through Extreme Metal” – The True Metal SchifterIn this episode of The True Metal Schifter, Daniel Schifter takes listeners on a dark and intense journey through extreme metal. The episode masterfully explores two seminal forces in the genre.Death Metal – Morbid Angel: Starting in the rotting basements of Tampa, Florida, Morbid Angel redefined death metal with Altars of Madness, blending speed, technical precision, and demonic atmospheres. From their early days to later works like Blessed Are the Sick and Covenant, the band set a standard for brutality while influencing generations of metal musicians.Depressive Black Metal – Shining: From the frozen landscapes of Sweden, Shining, led by Niklas Kvarforth, dives into despair and emotional extremity. Albums like V: Halmstad and VII: Född Förlorare showcase melancholic guitars, raw vocals, and experimental textures, creating music as much about introspection and self-destruction as darkness itself. Conclusion: Schifter draws a powerful connection between these two extremes: technical, demonic brutality and introspective, depressive intensity. The episode reminds listeners that extreme metal encompasses both violence and vulnerability, united by a shared darkness.TheTrueMetalSchifter #ExtremeMetal #DeathMetal #MorbidAngel #BlackMetal #DepressiveBlackMetal #Shining #MetalPodcast #MetalHistory #DarkMusic #HeavyMetal #MetalCommunity #UndergroundMetal #MetalJourney

fWotD Episode 3014: Belvidere Apollo Theatre collapse Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 5 August 2025, is Belvidere Apollo Theatre collapse. On the evening of March 31, 2023, a tornado struck the Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois, United States, which caused the ceiling of the theater to suffer a critical structural failure and collapse onto a sold-out concert. The show, headlined by the death metal band Morbid Angel, began despite advanced knowledge of expected and imminent severe weather. After a half-hour storm break was instituted during the opening performance of the band Crypta, the tornado struck the theater. Winds of 90–100 miles per hour (140–160 km/h) caused the failure of the lower roof structure, with large amounts of debris falling into the venue, primarily onto concertgoers. Multiple people were buried by debris caused by the collapse. Concertgoers aided in removing debris from on top of others, before the arrival of the Belvidere Fire Department, which evacuated the building and handled search and rescue operations alongside emergency management agencies from three neighboring counties. One concertgoer was pronounced dead at the scene and 27 were taken to hospitals by ambulance, out of 48 that suffered non-fatal injuries. The venue had been selected for the concert in November of the previous year, following the theater's remodeling as a concert venue. Severe weather was expected on the evening of March 31 in what became a historic tornado outbreak, but multiple people remained in the stage area after warnings for imminent severe weather were received. Following the collapse, the lack of safety protocols despite warning became the subject of multiple lawsuits. The Apollo Theatre was condemned the next day, suffering major damage to not only the roof over the stage but also the street-facing facade and the upper roof structure, of which the latter two were found on the street after the tornado. The venue reopened that September after multiple months of remodeling efforts and a brief fire on the reconstructed roof. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:47 UTC on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Belvidere Apollo Theatre collapse on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Olivia.
Es hat gedauert, es war schmerzhaft, und jetzt wird endgültig abgerechnet: Das Finale der Schlacht der Platten! Slayer – Diabolus in Musica gegen Morbid Angel – Heretic.
Drawing from the darker, more extreme elements of Death, Slayer, and Kreator, New Jersey's Ripping Corpse set out to break free from the conventions of their death and thrash metal peers.Though their time together was short-lived, the band was relentless in their pursuit of sonic intensity, honing their craft through constant rehearsals and several demos. Under the guidance of guitarist Shaune Kelley, many of these songs culminated in their sole full-length release, Dreaming with the Dead.Combining the blistering technicality of death metal with a raw, hardcore attitude, the album was remarkably ahead of its time. Sadly, issues with the band's label and management halted the band's momentum before they could develop their sound further.Regardless, Dreaming with the Dead stands as both a powerful statement and precursor of things to come. Several members would later carry the torch in the equally intense Dim Mak. The album also launched the career of guitarist / producer Erik Rutan, who went on to play in Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, and Cannibal Corpse, and operate his acclaimed studio, Mana Recording. While Dreaming with the Dead has since established itself as a cult classic of the era, one question will always remain: What could've been?Recommendations:Human Remains - Using Sickness as a HeroStomach - Low DemonStress Positions - Human ZooGold Dust - In the Shade of the Living LightHate Eternal - Fury and FlamesPelican - Flickering ResonanceFollow Riff WorshipInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/riffworshippod/Twitter: https://x.com/RiffWorshipPodYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@RiffWorshipPodCheck out our Official Playlists:Riffs on Repeat (Spotify)Hits from the Crypt (Apple)

Between 1989 and 2004, the self-dubbed “hatecore” madmen DAMAGED erupted from the rural town of Ballarat and onto the Australian metal scene, fusing unhinged aggression with the most extreme elements of of black metal, grindcore, and death metal. With releases like Do Not Spit, Token Remedies Research, and the EP Passive Backseat Demon Engines, DAMAGED unleashed a feral energy that cemented their status as Australia's premier live metal act of the '90s. At a time when international bands rarely travelled to Oz's shores, the band shared the stage with heavyweights like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory, and many more. After a decade incensed with internal turmoil, DAMAGED entered the studio in 2000 alongside Brutal Truth frontman Kevin Sharp to record what would become their final album, Purified in Pain.25 years on, Purified in Pain remains a divisive swan song from a localized, but legendary legacy. Interview by Kris PetersSydney based death metal outfit Anoxia are one of the rare breed of bands who are prepared to live and die by the sword they carry.By bringing a new sound to a bygone era of heavy metal, Anoxia embraces the legacy of death metal bands that have come before them such as Morbid Angel, Suffocation and Death, but sprinkle enough of their own - more modernized - DNA through the menu to make a fresh and tasty new main course where brutality is the King. After announcing their arrival with their 2020 Demo Torturous Degradation, Anoxia hit the stage sprinting, dropping their debut EP Languish In Suffering in 2023 which has seen the band amongst the first port of call for international touring acts such as Skeletal Remains and homegrown machines Psycroptic and King Parrot. But it is with the impending arrival of their debut full-length Revel In Sin on April 17 that Anoxia looks set to launch a global assault on the metal scene. Building on the crushing devastation promised with Languish In Suffering, Revel In Sin ramps up the intent, delivering more hooks, more pace, and more intensity.HEAVY caught up with guitarist Elias and bass player James to dig deeper."We released our EP in February 2023," Elias began. "So, it's been a little while now. We've just been touring a lot, playing a lot of shows, then took some time off to write and came up with Revel in Sin, so we're very excited. We feel like it's the next level in our progression as a band and as musicians, writing and just growing by fusing our old-school death metal style with some thrash metal elements as well. James came on board last August just to in the finalization of the writing stage as well, so he'll be on deck for the album launch as well."We press them both about the musical direction on Revel In Sin."We are all about the old school, early 90s US death metal," Elias affirmed. "So we're just building on that. The EP was four songs which we're proud of, but the album is just us levelling it up a bit in terms of speed, diversity and dynamics. It's very much in the vein of the EP, but just a few notches up from where we left off. There's different dynamics - fast in some places then slow - so we're just changing it up, but focussing on those hooks and keeping it intense."In the full interview, Elias and James talk more about Revel in Sin, highlighting the band's evolution in musical complexity by merging old-school death metal with thrash elements. Elias emphasized the single Rule by Cold Steel as a key representation of their sound, while James noted the album's progression from their previous EP, incorporating classic death metal elements with new dynamics. The band is promoting the album through a series of shows in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, as well as a nationwide tour with Atheist, aiming to broaden their audience. We also discussed the advantages of being managed by Your Mate Bookings for securing larger tours and enhancing the band's professional image, alongside insights into their live performances and fan interactions.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Neil told Billboard that same month that additional music from Mötley Crüe could be released by the end of 2024 or in 2025, but also stated that new material could result in "a few songs here, a few songs there" rather than a full-length album. Drummer Tommy Lee did not rule out releasing a new Mötley Crüe album, but stated that "recording and writing some stuff that you're feeling right at the moment and releasing it is, for us, a lot more a lot more fun and sort of a time stamp of where we're at right now." Sixx said that the band had recorded two other new singles that were ready to be released. On August 23, 2024, Mötley Crüe released their cover version of "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" as a single, and announced on the same day that a new EP, titled Cancelled, would be released on October 4.All of that plus video reviews of Motley Crue The Dirt, Motley Crue Dogs of War, Rammstein - Sonne, OZZY OSBOURNE - Shot In The Dark and Morbid Angel - God of Emptiness. All of that plus a discussion of Clown Core!Clown Core (stylized as ClownC0re) is an American musical duo. Get ready for a spine-tingling dive into 1988's cult horror classic Night of the Demons on the latest episode of Parallax Views w/ J.G. Michael! Kicking off the Halloween “spooky season” series, J.G. welcomes Chris MacGibbon of the Spooky Picture Show, a die-hard fan and researcher of Night of the Demons. Chris has delved deep into the film's eerie legacy, speaking with the cast, unearthing behind-the-scenes stories, and contributing to the Blu-ray releases of Night of the Demons and its sequels. Together, they discuss what makes this iconic film—and its sequels and remakes—so unforgettable in horror history. Tune in as they explore everything from the haunting atmosphere and cult following to the demon-filled, blood-curdling thrills that keep fans returning to this Halloween favorite year after year. Among the topics covered: - The making of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988), which was filmed on a low-budget over a few weeks with some of the shooting taking place in gangland territory - The on-set romance between special effects artist Steve Johnson and scream queen Linnea Quigley (who plays Suzanne in the film) after Johnson had to create a mold of Linnea's breasts - Australian director Brian Trenchard-Smith's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2; although the first movie had comedic elements, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 dove into full-on horror farce territory - The strange and troubled history of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 3 in Canada and its connections to the children's horror TV shows Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps - The rather disliked 2009 remake/reimagining of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS starring American Pie's Shannon Elizabeth, Freddy Vs. Jason's Monica Keena, and Terminator 2's Edward Furlong - How NIGHT OF THE DEMONS director Kevin S. Tenney ended up working on the film after making the cult classic Witchboard - Republic Pictures and the unexpected success of Night of the Demons on the home video market - Amelia Kinkade, the actress who plays the goth-girl-turned-demon-possessed-villain-of-the-series Angela, and her other life as a pet psychic; also discussion of her awesome dance scenes in Night of the Demons and Night of the Demons 2 where she dances to the gothic post-punk band Bauhaus and the death metal band Morbid Angel! - And more!

This isn't just a comeback, it's a full-on sonic assault, and we're here to get the exclusive intel straight from the source. We'll delve into Eyal's creative process during this extended absence – was he lurking in the shadows, crafting these monstrous riffs, or did something entirely different consume his time? We're also throwing Steve Buhl, the frontman of 200 STAB WOUNDS, into the interview pit. Buckle up, because this band isn't known for subtlety. Their upcoming album, "Manual Manic Procedures," dropping June 28th on the legendary Metal Blade Records, promises to be a sonic sledgehammer to the skull. And perhaps most importantly, how does a man who spends his days crafting such sonic assaults unwind? Does he pick up a soothing classical record, or perhaps take up a relaxing hobby like… crochet? (Spoiler alert: probably not.) This episode is a dream come true for any die-hard death metal fan. Robert Saler is an Associate Dean for Evaluation and Assessment, Associate Professor of Theology and Culture, and Executive Director of the Center for Pastoral Excellence and the Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Program at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. Robert is also an author and theologian who specialises in the intersection of faith and modern society, covering pastoral sabbaticals, theology of the cross, and religion's role in today's culture. Steve Von Till from Neurosis introduced me to Robert, an opportunity I'm thankful for, as I've been eager to find a guest who resides at an intersection of extreme metal and faith for the show. It'd be tempting to say this is a different guest from what you are used to, but that isn't true. I was the first journalist to contact Stuart Anstis, who blew the lid off the popular narratives surrounding Cradle of Filth. I'm the only person to interview Trey from Morbid Angel's mother. Across 800 other episodes of the show, you have become familiar with my technique of allowing the guest to brooch topics across all social, political and religious contexts. But this conversation goes beyond typical discussions of faith; it's a deep exploration into his path to spirituality, ministry, and scholarly work in theology. I hope this is the first of many insightful discussions with Robert.

The body of critical study - and fan adoration - around the music of Napalm Death has concerned itself principally with the band's pioneering grindcore and its transition into the death metal of Harmony Corruption. But what of the band's wilderness years, the mid- to late-1990s? The 108th episode of Radical Research digs into what its hosts consider to be Napalm Death's most radical music, the four-album futurist blitzkrieg spanning the years 1994-1998. Get ready for some serious side-eye, Legions, as we cross over into the torn apart. Note I: In the episode, Hunter mentions Ian Christe's writing on the band's 1994 album, Fear, Emptiness, Despair. In Christe's Sound of the Beast, he writes that the album, "...started a fresh chapter in the history of a band whose membership half-life had once lasted no longer than an album side. Previous urban hardcore noise blasts were mowed by sophisticated guitar layering and innovative drum patterns. Their dissonance became a conscious component of the composition, not merely a side benefit of chaos, and the marriage of intense anger and calculation yielded a masterpiece of passionate, politically minded, negative realism." Note II: In an act of gall, the scalar dimensions of which could only be compared to the Pacific Ocean, Mont Blanc, and John Holmes' ballistic member, Christe includes Fear, Emptiness, Despair in his list of the 25 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time. The list includes other controversial entries, such as Morbid Angel's Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, and Dream Death's rarely-trumpeted but mighty Journey Into Mystery. Note III: In our excitement, we failed to mention the men who produced these albums. All were produced by the estimable Colin Richardson, except Fear, Emptiness, Despair, which was handled by Pete Coleman. Only one of these gentlemen have played flute on a Skyclad album. Note IV: Please consider donating if you listen to Radical Research often: https://www.paypal.me/rrpodcast We also have a webstore where you can find shirts, CDs, and books, many of them recently restocked: http://radicalresearch.org/shop/ Music cited in order of appearance: “The Infiltraitor” (Words from the Exit Wound, 1998) “Plague Rages” (Fear, Emptiness, Despair, 1994) “Primed Time” (Fear, Emptiness, Despair, 1994) “Fasting on Deception” (Fear, Emptiness, Despair, 1994) “Ripe for the Breaking” (Diatribes, 1996) “Take the Strain” (Diatribes, 1996) “Diatribes” (Diatribes, 1996) “Birth in Regress” (Inside the Torn Apart, 1997) “Prelude” (Inside the Torn Apart, 1997) “Lowpoint” (Inside the Torn Apart, 1997) “None the Wiser?” (Words from the Exit Wound, 1998) “Trio-Degradable / Affixed by Disconcern” (Words from the Exit Wound, 1998) “The Infiltraitor” (Words from the Exit Wound, 1998) Radical Research is a conversation about the inner- and outer-reaches of rock and metal music. This podcast is conceived and conducted by Jeff Wagner and Hunter Ginn. Though we consume music in a variety of ways, we give particular privilege to the immersive, full-album listening experience. Likewise, we believe that tangible music formats help provide the richest, most rewarding immersions and that music, artwork, and song titles cooperate to produce a singular effect on the listener. Great music is worth more than we ever pay for it.

In this episode we wrap up the first half of 2023 with a look at the times an ancient Middle Eastern demon entered our 21st century news cycle. Through the lens of sketch comedy and the occasional song we laugh our way through the ‘current events' of 2023 and try to figure out why the devil is still a thing.Through the magic of audio illusions we will transport you to the annual Passion Conference in Atlanta Georgia. We'll observe a celebration of the love of Jesus with thousands of evangelical university students. We'll meet ex lesbian, drug abuser who grew up confused about her gender and was addicted to pornography turned Chri$tian author, rapper and poet Jackie Hill Perry and hear her thoughts about the reality of demons.Sit back and relax as self-proclaimed Gender Queer Non Binary Gay English singer Sam Smith takes to the Grammy Awards stage with openly transgender German woman Kim Petras to perform their hit song, ‘Unholy'. I wonder if anyone will get upset? And in completely unrelated news we'll meet Conservative podcaster Liz Wheeler, Republican senator Ted Cruz, failed republican candidate for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District and former music video director, Robby Starbuck Newsom and crazy person Marjorie Taylor Greene. It can't all be as much fun as Sam Smith and Kim Patras, we'll also have a hilarious peek into the Morbid Angel tragedy at the Apollo Theatre in Belvidere Illinois that took the life of Fred Livingston Jr. I wonder if anyone tried to exploit that for personal gain?In unrelated news this episode will also feature a cameo appearance from Artificial Intelligence 2: Electric Boogaloo star Leo Zagami. But then it's straight back into atheists making Chri$tians look dumb with The Satanic Temple's Satancon in Boston. And related to my use of the word ‘dumb' in the sentence above, we will meet MAGA Christo-Fascist and permed hair enthusiast Sean Feucht. Then it's on to Chri$tians scaring the rest of us again with a trip to the Chri$tian nationalist event ReAwaken America at Miami's Trump National Doral Hotel. Where just two weeks before the release of the live action version of Disney's The Little Mermaid, hate preacher Amanda Grace gives us the skinny on technologically advanced mermaids working for Satan. If you were wondering what did MTG tell that Turning Point USA's Young Women's Leadership Conference? We've got you covered. It's about the devil and reproductive rights and it's brilliant. It's MTG. What else is it going to be? After a week of epic, thrashing black/death Americana, we bring you a week of epic, thrashing brutal death. First up, we finally get a new release from The Death Metal Guy's favorite Colombians, Internal Suffering. Where a lot of modern BDM exists in a virtually self-contained sonic universe, nestled between tech-death and slam, Internal Suffering proudly trace their heritage to Morbid Angel. This influence is especially clear on Rituals, where they strip down their song structures to let the riffs shine through. Second, we ponder the metamorphosis of Long Island's Afterbirth, pioneers of brutal death now venturing into more proggy, cinematic territory. This could be terrible, but it isn't, and it may well be a masterpiece. In But Not Of is an uncommonly well-rounded record that speaks to every facet of teenage alienation, but from the vantage point of older, wiser men. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:03:45 - Internal Suffering - Rituals (New Standard Elite) 0:45:25 - Interlude - Carnivore Diprosopus - “Creation of a Sadistic Empire” fr. Condemned by the Alliance (Sevared Records, 2013) 0:49:39 - Afterbirth - In But Not Of (Willowtip Records) 1:48:53 - Outro - Lykathea Aflame - “To Give” fr. Formed in 1991 during the zenith of the death metal explosion, this American trio has matured into one of the premier acts in the global death metal and grindcore scenes. Known for their relentless sonic assault, innovative song structures, and thought-provoking lyrics, Dying Fetus has become synonymous with uncompromising death metal excellence. The band was originally founded in Maryland by guitarist and vocalist John Gallagher, along with guitarist Nick Speleos and drummer Jason Netherton. Dying Fetus quickly gained recognition for their brutal live performances and ferocious musicality. Their early years were marked by a series of demos, culminating in their 1995 debut album, "Infatuation with Malevolence." This release showcased their blend of technical virtuosity and savage aggression, setting the stage for what would become a storied career. As the band evolved, they solidified their lineup with John Gallagher as the sole remaining founding member, joined by musicians who would contribute significantly to the band's signature sound. The lineup changes didn't deter their musical progression; instead, they pushed forward, refining their craft with each release.Dying Fetus' discography is a testament to their commitment to musical excellence. Albums like "Purification Through Violence" (1996), "Killing On Adrenaline" (1998), and "Destroy The Opposition" (2001) firmly established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the death metal world. These records showcased their technical proficiency and songwriting prowess, earning them a devoted fan base. The band's lyrical content, while often unflinchingly brutal, delves into sociopolitical themes, reflecting a desire to provoke thought and discussion. This intellectual approach sets Dying Fetus apart, as their music engages both the visceral and the cerebral aspects of the listener's experience. In 2003, Dying Fetus released "Stop At Nothing," a record that further solidified their status as death metal giants. This album featured crushing riffs, intricate drum work, and visceral vocals, garnering critical acclaim and expanding their global fan base."War Of Attrition" (2007), "Descend Into Depravity" (2009), and "Reign Supreme" (2012) continued the band's tradition of delivering punishing death metal with technical finesse. Each album showcased their evolution as musicians and songwriters, drawing in new listeners while satisfying long-time fans.Their 2017 release, "Wrong One to Fuck With," was hailed as a "menacing motherfucker" by Metal InjectiThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Madeleine Liljestam and Rikard Ekberg of Eleine joined us on this week's episode of The MetalSucks Podcast! We discuss their new album We Shall Remain coming out July 14, the mindset that they were in during the recording of their previous album Dancing In Hell, the surprise diagnosis Madeleine received during the pandemic, how important the fans on their Patreon were during that time and now. We also discussed the current touring situation regarding the rising costs of touring for European bands coming the North America, why they feel merch cuts by venues is an evil practice, and winning over those fans that initially look miserable at the beginning of their set. Petar and Brandon debate Trent Reznor's comments on releasing new NIN music, celebrating the 30th anniversary of both Morbid Angel's Covenant and Death's Individual Thought Patterns. We're back with all the latest happenings in the rock and metal world with Geekwire! Tragically, one person died and several were injured at a recent Morbid Angel show outside of Chicago. We discuss this sad situation and are sending good vibes to the people affected. Chris recently ventured to the theater to see the Neil Bogart biopic 'Spinning Gold.' Did it accurately portray Neil and the Casablanca Records story? Was it a mess of factual inaccuracies? Above all else, was it worth a watch? Chris gives his full review of the movie. Sebastian Bach recently pranked Skid Row fans by claiming a deluxe edition of 'Subhuman Race' was being released. Did this work as an April Fool's day gag? We give our thoughts. Other stories covered this week include Vinnie Vincent bringing Marq Torien on board for his next event in Nashville, Vivian Campbell professing his love for Phil Lynott, Udo Dirkschneider claiming his current band is more authentic than ACCEPT, and more. We also touch on the recent Ace Frehley and KISS drama (this was recorded before his recent followup interview). We hope you enjoy Geekwire for the week of April 7th, 2023 and SHARE with a friend!
