Bac Giang, is a picturesque place that often remains under the radar until the Lychee Festival, typically featured in social pages and news around June. This lively event commemorates Bac Giang's distinction as the "Land of Lychees."In today's episode Bac Giang and the subject of lychees are front and centre, as I get to share the story of a photographer named Jessie Pearlman, a previous guest on the podcast, who embarked on a return trip to Vietnam, driven by his love for the country and his desire to reconnect with friends and explore new experiences. This show delves into the motivations behind his journey; the significance of the lychees to the region and the community, and how best to navigate a visit there. Jesse has a wonderful gift for self-expression and description which will immediately transport you to the experiences he had during his time in the heart of Bac Giang province, Luc Ngan, the township designated as the biggest growing township for lychees. He provides valuable tips on organizing your trip and strongly recommends it as a destination to visit, just a short 2.5-hour drive from Hanoi, especially for photographers and tropical fruit enthusiasts. This is an off the beaten track location and experience, so information is as Jesse describes, hard to find. Therefore, we have the following links to the people who helped him create his trip, which we hope will help you too.Phung Lan, Tour Guide for Luc Ngan Lychee Harvest in Bac Giang Province: https://www.facebook.com/kalydao.phungLan's Tour Company: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100076182891385By visiting lesser-known regions like Bac Giang, we can contribute to the local economy and make a positive impact on the community. This week's episode is about SHEER feel-good listening: it's the Off Menu Podcast! Every week, British comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble sit down with a celebrity (broadcasters, comedians, chefs) and ask them their favorite ever starter, main course, desert, side dish, and drink (but not in that order!) Whenever we need a comfort podcast, this is our go-to! Long-time listeners quickly feel like they're part of the gang, keeping up with the inside jokes, learning more and more about the lives of the hosts. Because that's why a lot of people love listening to podcasts right? To feel like you're a part of the crew, to get a new group of friends that don't even know you exist. Or is that just us? Para-social relationships are a big thing for podcast listeners. In this episode we deep-dive into the weird relationship podcast listeners have with podcast host. We also try to analyze what makes this podcast so lovable – and why Brits love chips and hate lychees. This podcast is produced by Plosive and the great Benit....erm...Ben Williams. Quenepas (KenEPahs) This fruit grows on a woody plant. The fruit has a brittle-leathery shell-like skin that pops open to reveal a hard yellowish seed covered with a sweet/sour layer that tastes a little like lime. The only way to eat it is to pop the whole seed into your mouth and scrape the limey-flavored flesh with your teeth. In India, Quenepas are compared to Lychees.
On this episode, Rhett Thompson continues her day with finally making that Mercari shipment at FedEx Walgreens, enjoying South Florida lychee season, embracing the thrifting mentality, and thrifting jorts (jean shorts) for The Kid who insists on growing and needing summer clothes.
