Maarten Baas is ontwerper.

The annual Milan Design Week is considered the world's biggest event dedicated to design which takes place at Fiera Milano exhibition centre located just outside the city, plus across the city as Fuorisalone in showrooms, palazzos and other venues. Bethan Ryder, WGSN Executive Editorial Director is joined by Director of Interiors Lisa White and Head of Interiors Gemma Riberti as we explore our sustainability trend. In this episode we focus on an interview with Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, co-founders of Formafantasma, the research-driven design studio who are leading the conversion on sustainability and design not just from a materials perspective but also a human one. And also catch up with Dutch designer Maarten Baas, who created a private jet of recycled denim for his collaboration with G-Star RAW.

In this series of short looks at the Milan design week 2014 we take a look at the key events happening in the inner city of Milan and the Brera District. Ecal took a different approach to the home automation trend. By taking on the subject with a bit of humor it's easy to realise how many solutions simply don't make much sense yet. The impressive thing is though that all the projects presented were fully functional such as the floating hand awaiting to open up the curtains for you, a willing spoon to follow your cup of coffee around and humming fruits combining taste and sound. The new collection of Hay was also a favourite amongst visitors and journalists, bringing good design and making it accessible to a wider audience. And 2014 also marked the return of Maarten Baas to the Milan design week as well with his 'Baas is in town' show.

YDN designguide visits Maarten Baas at his retrospective exhibition in Miami. At just 31 years old, he managed to change the general view on design by constantly rethinking the design process and introducing new disciplines to his work. The organization of design/miami recognized this and awarded him the prestigious Designer of the year award. The exhibition had an overview of his work as well as several live performances of his Real-time project. Maarten also took this moment to create one of his most difficult pieces to date, the Shell cabinet. www.maartenbaas.com www.designguide.tv For great domainname deals go take a look on: www.designguide.tv/godaddy
