Afaina de Jong is architect en beeldend kunstenaar. In 2005 begon ze haar ontwerpstudio ‘AFARAI', waar ze gebruik maakt van andere kleuren, patronen en verhalen voor een inclusieve ervaring van ruimte. Ze ontwierp onder andere de Slavernij tentoonstelling in het Rijksmuseum en de architecturale installatie ‘Kinship Library'. In 2025 won ze de Amsterdamprijs voor de Kunst voor Bewezen Kwaliteit. Nu is er de tentoonstelling ‘Unruly process: Future. Present. Past.' in het Van Eesteren Museum, waarin de Jong de ontwikkeling van haar ideeën en projecten laat zien. Met haar werk wil ze een gemeenschap opbouwen die traditionele, patriarchale en koloniale structuren binnen architectuur en design bevraagt en doorbreekt. Femke van der Laan gaat met Afaina de Jong in gesprek.

Vijftig jaar na een van de meest opzienbarende acties van de vrouwenbeweging, de bezetting van abortuskliniek Bloemenhove, onderzoeken we aan welke vernieuwing het abortusrecht anno 2026 toe is.In mei 1976 bezetten feministen – onder wie sprekers Anja Meulenbelt en Marjan Sax – bijna twee weken lang de abortuskliniek Bloemenhove in Heemstede. Met de bezetting probeerden feministen de sluiting van de abortuskliniek Bloemenhove door toenmalig minister van Justitie Dries van Agt te voorkomen. De sfeer was speels, maar ondertussen lag een inval van de ME onophoudend op de loer. Terwijl politici debatteerden over het lot van de kliniek, groeide de bezetting uit tot een van de meest opzienbarende acties van de vrouwenbeweging. Niet veel later volgde de invoering van de huidige abortuswet. Schrijver en onderzoeker Sanne Thierens schreef over deze episode het boek De bezetting.Vandaag de dag pleit een brede beweging voor decriminalisering en het schrappen van abortus uit het wetboek van strafrecht. Of liever: voor de verankering van abortus in de grondwet. Om de abortuspil die sinds kort zonder tussenkomst van een huis- of abortusarts online te bestellen is, is veel te doen. Zijn wetgeving en debat, vijftig jaar na dato, niet aan vernieuwing toe? It's another Throwback Thursday, and this time we're going back to December 2019 for one of my all-time favorite episodes. At the 2019 California International Marathon (CIM), 72 women ran faster than 2 hours 45 minutes, officially qualifying to run the 2020 Olympic Trials in the marathon. Leading several dozen of those women were Menso de Jong, Chris Stehula, and Ken Rakestraw — the official sub-2:45 pace group leaders. None of them had ever run a 2:45 marathon before. This is their story. Drop Dead Fred has an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics absolutely hated it. But it's really good! Seriously. Let Matt and Laci tell you all about it... ...for the second time. That's right, it's time to return to a movie we've covered already. The first time was nearly a decade ago, on the tenth episode of this podcast. Back then, the show was called Load Bearing Beams and it came out every 73 days. We've gotten more consistent since then.
