Voormalig kinderombudsman en voorzitter van het kinderrechtencollectief Marc Dullaert zet zich al jarenlang in voor de rechten van kinderen, zowel in Nederland als daarbuiten. Zijn motivatie begon bij een ingrijpende gebeurtenis. Tijdens een bezoek aan een vluchtelingengebied ontmoette hij een vrouw die al weken op de vlucht was. Op het moment dat hij haar zag, was haar kind net overleden. "Dat raakte mij enorm. Ik dacht direct: hier moet ik iets aan doen. " Deze kinderen mogen niet vergeten worden." Later richtte hij zijn aandacht ook op kinderen in Nederland. Mede door zijn dochter, die hem vroeg waarom hij zoveel deed voor kinderen in het buitenland maar niet voor kinderen in eigen land, besloot hij zich ook in te zetten voor kwetsbare jongeren hier. Ongeveer één op de acht kinderen in Nederland heeft te maken met jeugdzorg. Een van de grootste zorgen van Dullaert  is het gebrek aan langetermijnbeleid binnen de jeugdzorg. Volgens hem richt Nederland zich vaak op snelle oplossingen, terwijl structurele veranderingen nodig zijn.‘Kwetsbare jongeren worden niet geholpen door de staat', aldus de voorzitter van het Kinderrechtencollectief.  "De overheid moet verder kijken dan de korte termijn." "Problemen moeten bij de wortel worden aangepakt."

De Europese bankwereld roert zich. Qivalis, het in Amsterdam gevestigde consortium dat werkt aan een eurostablecoin, heeft er 25 nieuwe leden bijgekregen. Daarmee telt het netwerk nu 37 financiële instellingen uit 15 landen, waaronder ABN AMRO en Rabobank. ING was al eerder lid. Een stablecoin is een cryptomunt waarvan de waarde gekoppeld is aan een vaste referentiewaarde. In dit geval de euro. De Qivalis munt wordt op een 1 op 1 verhouding gedekt door euro's en andere liquide activa bij gereguleerde bewaarders. Het doel is niet om bestaande betaalsystemen te vervangen, maar om blockchaingebaseerde afwikkeling sneller en goedkoper te maken, met name voor grensoverschrijdende betalingen en de handel in tokenized financiële producten. De timing is niet toevallig. Het overgrote deel van alle stablecoins in omloop is dollargebonden. Tether en Circle vertegenwoordigen samen honderden miljarden dollars. Qivalis positioneert zich nadrukkelijk als Europees alternatief. De ECB staat daar met gemengde gevoelens tegenover. Christine Lagarde heeft meerdere malen gewaarschuwd voor de risico's van private stablecoins, een positie die haaks staat op die van het bankenconsortium. Toch dringen de Europese grootbanken door. Qivalis hoopt in de tweede helft van 2026 te lanceren, mits de Nederlandsche Bank als toezichthouder groen licht geeft. Dan Hyperliquid, de gedecentraliseerde cryptobeurs die de ene na de andere mijlpaal haalt. Het platform staat bekend om perpetual futures, derivaten waarmee je kunt speculeren op koersen zonder de onderliggende activa te hoeven bezitten. Via partner trade.xyz voegde het een nieuw product toe: synthetische pre-IPO contracten. Wie wil speculeren op de koers van SpaceX vóór de beursgang, kan dat nu op Hyperliquid doen. Voor grondstoffen als olie en goud biedt het platform al langer de mogelijkheid om dag en nacht te handelen. Het eigen HYPE token steeg deze week met bijna 40 procent. Beleggers trokken meer dan een miljard dollar terug uit Bitcoin ETFs en 215 miljoen uit Ethereum ETFs, terwijl HYPE ETFs juist 72 miljoen dollar aan instroom zagen. Goldman Sachs heeft inmiddels ook een positie in het token. Er zijn wel vraagtekens bij de mate van decentralisatie van het platform, de validatoren zijn in beperkte handen. Tot slot Tether, de grootste stablecoinuitgever ter wereld, dat een akkoord sloot met de Georgische overheid voor een stablecoin gekoppeld aan de Georgische lari. De GELT moet grensoverschrijdende handel en digitale betalingen goedkoper en sneller maken. Het is geen CBDC, maar een privaat product met overheidssteun. Do you find it difficult to be honest when you have to deliver bad news? It can feel risky especially when the outcome might affect your job or your relationships. The Prophet Daniel's life gives us a picture of what it means to be an authentic follower of Christ in tough moments. In Daniel chapter 5, Daniel serves under a different leader, yet he continues faithfully in his role. By this point, he has years of experience and a strong reputation, but his ultimate allegiance remains with God. The king hosts a lavish feast, openly displaying his power and wealth. In his arrogance, he orders the sacred vessels taken from God's temple in Jerusalem to be used at the party. Not only are they misused, but the king and his guests praise false gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone instead of honoring the living God. Suddenly, the mood shifts. A hand appears and writes a message on the wall. The once-confident king is filled with fear. After exhausting all other options to determine what the message says, someone suggests calling Daniel to interpret the message. It's interesting that Daniel wasn't the king's first choice. Perhaps, deep down, the king already knew he had crossed a line and didn't want to face the truth. When Daniel arrives, he speaks with respect but also with courage and clarity. He refuses the king's rewards, making it clear his message is not influenced by personal gain. As an authentic follower of God, Daniel is not driven by approval or advancement but by obedience to God. He reminds the king of how God dealt with Nebuchadnezzar and then confronts Belshazzar directly. He tells him plainly he has not humbled himself, he has dishonored God, and his kingdom will be taken from him. It is a hard message and a dangerous one to deliver. Yet, Daniel speaks the truth and leaves the outcome in God's hands. The outcome was King Belshazzar was slain that same evening and his kingdom was conquered by Darius the Mede. Daniel's example challenges us. Where are you being called to speak truth right now? Maybe it's in your workplace or in a relationship, and you're afraid of the consequences. Being an authentic follower of Christ doesn't mean being harsh or defensive. It means speaking truth with humility and respect, without compromising. It means trusting God enough to obey him, even when the outcome feels uncertain. Like Daniel, we can choose faithfulness over fear and trust God with whatever comes next.

De kerk staat al eeuwen op het plein. En toch is het juist op het platteland soms erg lastig om missionair te zijn. Familie is belangrijker dan in de stad, en de dingen liggen vaak veel meer vast, legt Henk uit. 'Een ouderling die twee generaties terug iets verkeerds deed, dat klinkt nog na.' En voor de standaard pioniersaanpak - een nieuwe, laagdrempelige geloofsgemeenschap beginnen - zijn veel dorpen gewoonweg te klein. Dat moet dus anders.  Hoe? Nou in Drenthe, een van de meest ontkerkelijke regio's van Nederland, draait al een aantal jaar Missie Westerveld. Dat is een missionaire beweging waarbij protestantse gemeenten, een hersteld-hervormde gemeente én een katholieke parochie samenwerken om het evangelie in de regio te laten klinken. Vandaag bespreken we het boek, Dit is fascisme van Rosan Smits. Rosan Smits is adjunct Hoofdredacteur van de Correspondent. Rosan is politicoloog, deed onderzoek naar radicalisering en geweld in oorlogsgebieden. Ze gaf leiding aan de Conflict Research Unit bij Clinendael. Dit boek is onderdeel van de serie Vonkjes. Wat het boek goed laat zien is hoe fascisme op veel plekken in de wereld al de normaal is. Ze laat de belangrijkste voorbeelden zien die we veel tegen komen in de VS, in Europa en in Nederland en laat je zien waar en hoe het fascisme doordringt. Smits gaf me het gevoel dat het in Nederland niet zo snel gaat als in de VS en Hongarije bijvoorbeeld, en tegelijk schrok ik van de internationale netwerken en denktanks waar ze over schrijft. Het voordeel van de vonkjes, ook nu weer, is dat je in 180 pagina's weet hoe je fascisme herkent, het ondermijnen van de democratie ziet voor wat het is, de rol van extreem rijke mensen ziet en wat je er als burger tegen te doen hebt. Ze komt tot de kern in drie delen zoals het draaiboek dat we eerder zagen in het boek van Over tirannie, met wat er in de VS gebeurt, in Europa en in Nederland en hoe we het stoppen. Het is interessant, maar ook angstaanjagend. Het heeft mij bewuster gemaakt van dingen die ik las om ze te zien als fascisme, de afbraak van de democratie. De inleiding laat zien dat dit nu gebeurt. Facisme is er in veel meer vormen dan alleen de nazis tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.  Wie tijdig waarschuwt, wordt gezien als alarmist. Maar als de dreiging onmiskenbaar is, is het te laat. p10 Benoemen, begrijpen en bestrijden - zie ook Over tirannie van Snyder. Niet iedere facist is een alleenheerser (zoals Hitler). Het is geen eenduidige ideologie, het is een politieke strategie. Ze ziet het als haar rol dat zoveel mogelijk mensen begrijpen: dit is facisme. Dit boek en haar berichten hierover dragen daar zeker aan bij. Deel 1 Dit is fascisme 1 Het draaiboek van het fascisme Het draaiboek hadden we ook gezien in het boek Het spel van de populist. Hier beschrijft Smits de vijf stadia van het facisme: Ontstaan: de voedingsbodem wordt gelegd in de maatschappij, aanleiding een crisis of onvrede Organisatie: een fascistische partij of beweging vormt zich rond een leider Machtsverwerving: de beweging krijgt toegang tot de politieke macht, (democratisch) via verkiezingen Machtsuitoefening: politieke macht groeit uit tot regeringsmacht; de beweging probeert de controlerende macht uit te schakelen en grondrechten af te breken. Radicalisering of verval: het regime radicaliseert verder of verliest richting en brokkelt af. Tien instrumenten voor mobilisering van het volk Mythisch verleden Propaganda Anti-intellectueel Alternatieve waarheid Hiërarchie Slachtoffer van het complot (dolkstootlegende) gendernormativiteit (de natuurlijke orde) Arbeidsideaal (hardwerkende burgers en luie profiteurs) Kloof tussen stad en platteland Wapens van de rechtstaat (gebruikt recht om tegenstanders te vernietigen en staan zelf boven de wet) Hedendaags facisme herkennen Deel 2 Het fascisme van vandaag 2 Het fascistische regime-Trump De hoeveelheid leugens die Trump verspreid is enorm, de media word ermee overspoelt. Mede via Twitter en zijn eigen social media platform. Alles wat Trump doet past in het draaiboek van facisme. p52 wie zijn land redt, kan de wet niet overtreden. De grote leuge toe hij de vorige verkiezingen verloor en beweerde dat het een gestolen winst was. Ze hadden hem kunnen uitsluiten van de volgende verkiezingen na het veroorzaken van deze bestorming. Rechters worden aangevallen en omzeilt. De Amerikaanse bevolging beweegt, september de No Kings Dat, de grootste landelijke protest in de geschiedenis van de VS. There are a few different ways to look at the structure of the book of Daniel, and one of them is to note that the first six chapters are comprised of narratives that contain prophecy, while the last six chapters are prophecies that contain history. The first four chapters occurred under Nebuchadnezzar, while today's chapters occur in further successive time periods under Belshazzar, Darius the Mede, and Cyrus the Persian. Later chapters, however, do not maintain a chronological order. In deze aflevering Pieter Kamp, samen met Michel van Staveren mede-eigenaar van vintage speelgoedwinkel De Toy Boys in Haarlem.Pieter vertelt hoe de winkel, na een carrière inde film- en televisiewereld, is ontstaan uit pure liefhebberij. Van een 'leuk vitrinekastje' naar een winkel met magazijn, wat ooit begon als hobby werd op een gegeven moment handel. En toen belde speelgoedfabrikant Hasbro - dit nieuwtjeis een primeur, want Pieter en Michel hadden jarenlang zwijgplicht - met de mededeling dat zij gingen verhuizen. Of de mannen van De Toy Boys niet de zolder wilden leeghalen, want weggooien was zonde. Uiteraard werd een busje gehuurd en deze fantastische partij ingeladen.De Toy Boys opereren inmiddels vanuit en winkelpand in de Haarlemse Gierstraat en reizen de wereld over, op zoek naar vintage speelgoed. Pieter zegt het mooi: 'En opeens denk je dan: dit is wat ik wilde worden, kennelijk'. Maar het is ook gewoon ondernemen en hard werken. Op de dag van de opname is Pieter de hele dag in de weer geweest om items te catalogiseren en te fotograferen voor de website. Speelgoed wordt ook uit elkaar gehaald voor de onderdelen om andere sets compleet te maken. Dit jaar staan er nog een reis naar Hong Kong en Japan op het programma waar Pieter weer een aantal parels hoopt te scoren. Want in vintage speelgoed-land doen veel verhalen de ronde over de heilige graal, Pieter vertelt over een aantal zeldzame items die hij is tegengekomen de laatste tien jaar. Een aflevering over per ongeluk je passie vinden en een inkijkje in de fascinerende wereld van het (vintage) speelgoed verzamelen.

Drie economen, verbonden aan verschillende Amerikaanse universiteiten, hebben onderzocht waar de grens ligt voor de staatsschuld van overheden. Met andere woorden: op welk punt kan een land niet langer wegkomen met de gedachte ‘het komt wel goed’, zelfs niet meer door de rente kunstmatig laag te houden, iets wat economen ‘financiële repressie’ noemen. Uit dat onderzoek trekt macro-econoom Edin Mujagic de conclusie dat de Amerikaanse staatsschuld beter houdbaar is dan die van Europese landen, inclusief Duitsland. Wat zeggen economen en beleidsmakers meestal over staatsschulden? Mede dankzij het werk van Piketty weten we dat beleidsmakers en economen vaak zeggen: ‘Die staatsschuld doet er niet zoveel toe.’ Hun redenering is: zolang de rente die je betaalt over die schuld lager is dan de economische groei, is er niets aan de hand. En daar zit wat in, want als je vanuit de overheid kijkt: economische groei is eigenlijk hetzelfde als de groei van je inkomsten, en de rente is wat je betaalt aan lasten. Als je inkomsten harder stijgen dan je uitgaven, dan is er dus inderdaad geen probleem. En ik zeg niet dat ik me achter Piketty schaar, maar het idee is logisch. [24] “Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. [25] And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. [26] This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; [27] Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; [28] Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.” [29] Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. Rav Huna ruled like Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha, who distinguished between loans with a promissory note and those without, and permitted Jews to collect loans without a promissory note from gentiles before their holidays. He also ruled like Rabbi Yehuda on the issue of a dyer who dyed someone's wool the wrong color. Rav Yosef did not understand why Rav Huna needed to explain the ruling like Rabbi Yehuda, as he thought it was obvious from the stam Mishna in Bava Metzia that corresponded to his opinion, as when there is a Mishna with a debate that is followed by a stam Mishna, the ruling is always like the stam Mishna. What was that not obvious to Rav Huna?  The Gemara quotes several other debates between Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha and others in which the ruling is like Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha. Rabbi Yishmael forbade doing business dealings with gentiles three days before and three days after their holidays. Shmuel explained that based on Rabbi Yishmael, it is forbidden to have any business dealings with Christians, as every Sunday they have a holiday.  The rabbis disagree and forbid business dealings before. The Gemara questions how their opinion differs from the tanna's opinion in the first Mishna of the masechet. Four suggestions are brought. The last relates to an opinion of Nahum the Mede. There are several issues brought in the Gemara where Naum the Mede disagreed with the sages or individual sages on a particular issue, and the rabbis were unwilling to accept his position.
