And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored. [24] “Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. [25] And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. 11:33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. 11:34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. 11:35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed. 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. 11:37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 11:38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 11:39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain. 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 11:42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 11:43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; Xander van de Casteele werkte na zijn studies in de bouw,kluste bij in een beenhouwerij en raakte gefascineerd door beleggen. Zijn brede interesses maakten dat hij niet meteen zijn draai vond in een specifieke sector. Dat veranderde toen Jurgen, de partner van Xanders moeder, hem vroeg om als verkoper aan de slag te gaan bij zijn bedrijf Steak A Manger. Xander aarzelde even, maar omdat hij een sterke band met Jurgen had, maakten ze van bij de start duidelijke afspraken om werk en privé gescheiden te houden. Het moeilijkste was afscheid nemen van zijn eerste werkgever in de bouw, maartijdens een vakantie hakte hij de knoop door.Steak A Manger is een curator en groothandel van premiumrundsvlees, dat wordt verkocht aan restaurants en andere distributeurs. Xander begon er als allround medewerker. Jurgen vond het belangrijk dat hij alle facetten van het bedrijf leerde kennen, en gaandeweg ontdekte Xander dat het ondernemerschap en de diversiteit die ermee gepaard gaat hem enorm aanspraken. Het traject dat volgde was een sneltrein: het bedrijf evolueerde met nieuwe diensten en verdere professionalisering, terwijl Xander zich volledig toelegde op zijn eigen ontwikkeling en de groei van het bedrijf, meer dan op zijn loon. In de drie daaropvolgende jaren verviervoudigde de omvang van Steak A Manger.Jurgen vond in Xander een perfect complementaire partner en stelde hem niet veel later de vraag om te participeren. Samen beslisten ze een Leveraged Buy-Out op te zetten, waardoor ze elk ongeveer 50% van de aandelen verwierven en de toekomst van het bedrijf veiligstelden.

Als kind trok Gijs al de potten en pannen uit de kast en met zijn creativiteit en gedrevenheid vond hij zijn weg naar de plantaardige keuken, met als hoogtepunt de ontwikkeling van de dry-aged rode biet. Samen met zijn partner Iris startte hij Restaurant Vannu in Bavel: een fine dining groentenrestaurant. Tegelijkertijd schaalden ze de dry-age biet op naar landelijke distributie, een extreem intensieve periode. Restaurant Vannu werd, dankzij hun visie, doorzettingsvermogen en sterke teamgeest, een groot succes. Een lovende recensie van de Volkskrant en later een groene Michelinster brachten alles in een stroomversnelling. De nieuwe Solana Seeker staat centraal in deze aflevering van de Cryptocast, met Geale Simon Postma te gast. Geale Simon is fervent gebruiker van Solana en ambassadeur van de Solflare wallet, ook is hij contentmaker op Eyekon. De Seeker volgt de Solana Saga op, die aanvankelijk weinig aandacht kreeg maar later bekender werd door de airdrops die gekoppeld waren aan het toestel. Volgens gebruikers moet de Seeker meer zijn dan een gewone Android-telefoon. De hardware is speciaal ontworpen om cryptotoepassingen soepel te laten draaien, met functies die elders nog niet beschikbaar zijn. Toch is het beeld gemengd. Binnen het Solana-ecosysteem lijkt er veel enthousiasme, maar daarbuiten wordt de telefoon gezien als een soort prototype. Ook de techmedia hebben er nauwelijks aandacht aan besteed, wat vragen oproept over het succes op de langere termijn. De cryptofuncties van de telefoon zijn het belangrijkste verkoopargument. In de kern zit de Seed Vault, een beveiligde manier om private keys op te slaan, die zelfs kan dienen als alternatief voor een hardware wallet. Daarnaast biedt de Seeker ID een manier om publieke adressen te vervangen en is er sprake van een nieuw SKR-token. Daarover is nog weinig duidelijk, want een whitepaper ontbreekt. Wel staat vast dat airdrops opnieuw een rol spelen. Gebruikers krijgen toegang tot exclusieve uitgiftes van nieuwe tokens en projecten. Ook de decentrale app-store is een opvallend element, zeker nu Europese regels de mogelijkheden van bestaande platforms steeds meer beperken. De vraag blijft of de telefoon zonder crypto-element bestaansrecht heeft. Veel functies zouden in theorie ook naar andere toestellen gebracht kunnen worden. Voorlopig lijkt het model van Solana vooral te leunen op de combinatie van hardware en beloningen. Dat blijkt ook uit andere plannen in het ecosysteem. Zo wordt gewerkt aan een spelcomputer, de PSG1, die eveneens airdrops als lokkertje gebruikt. Daarnaast verschijnen er steeds meer producten rond het netwerk, zoals de Solflare-creditcard. Ondertussen is er ook ruimte voor kritiek. Memecoins spelen nog altijd een grote rol binnen Solana, maar de waarde van veel projecten zakt weg. Dat Donald Trump zijn eigen memecoin op Solana lanceerde, zorgde weliswaar voor veel aandacht, maar roept ook vragen op. Moet de gemeenschap zich niet meer richten op duurzame toepassingen in plaats van snelle hype? Het eerste Nederlandse Journalistiek Festival is vandaag van start gegaan in Deventer. Mede-oprichter Jesse Beentjes vertelde erover in het Radio 1 Journaal. Over het belang ervan zegt hij: "We moeten nu al werken aan de bewustwording van censuur, want je ziet wat er kan gebeuren. Er zijn nu meer autocratische landen dan democratische landen wereldwijd."

Rav Yosef did not understand why Rav Huna needed to explain the ruling like Rabbi Yehuda, as he thought it was obvious from the stam Mishna in Bava Metzia that corresponded to his opinion, as when there is a Mishna with a debate that is followed by a stam Mishna, the ruling is always like the stam Mishna. What was that not obvious to Rav Huna?  The Gemara quotes several other debates between Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha and others in which the ruling is like Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha. Rabbi Yishmael forbade doing business dealings with gentiles three days before and three days after their holidays. Shmuel explained that based on Rabbi Yishmael, it is forbidden to have any business dealings with Christians, as every Sunday they have a holiday.  The rabbis disagree and forbid business dealings before. The Gemara questions how their opinion differs from the tanna's opinion in the first Mishna of the masechet. Four suggestions are brought. The last relates to an opinion of Nahum the Mede. There are several issues brought in the Gemara where Naum the Mede disagreed with the sages or individual sages on a particular issue, and the rabbis were unwilling to accept his position.

Nebuchadnezzar's son, Belshazzar, has an enormous party, and drinks from the goblets captured from the temple of God in Jerusalem. 9 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, by descent a Mede, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years. 3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. 4 I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules. 6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those who are near and those who are far away, in all the lands to which you have driven them, because of the treachery that they have committed against you. 8 To us, O Lord, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. 9 To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him 10 and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by walking in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. And the curse and oath that are written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him. 12 He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity. For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem. 13 As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us; yet we have not entreated the favor of the Lord our God, turning from our iniquities and gaining insight by your truth. 14 Therefore the Lord has kept ready the calamity and has brought it upon us, for the Lord our God is righteous in all the works that he has done, and we have not obeyed his voice. 15 And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly. 16 “O Lord, according to all your righteous acts, let your anger and your wrath turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy hill, because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a byword among all who are around us. 17 Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord, make your face to shine upon your sanctuary, which is desolate. 18 O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy. 19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.” Gabriel Brings an Answer20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God, 21 while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. 23 At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision. The Seventy Weeks24 “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place. 25 Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. 26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed. 27 And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering.     wonder how often you receive a special looking envelope in the mail with words like “extremely urgent” or “official document” stamped on the envelope? And how often when you open the envelope do you find it is simply a marketing ploy attempting to coerce you into purchasing something you really don’t need? As frustrating as that is, occasionally we do receive a very important document which perhaps you put in a safe place with your other legal, important documents.   Yesterday I left you in the palace in Babylon with King Darius the Mede in the year 539bc. Daily Dose of Hope February 11, 2025 Day 3 of Week 46   Scripture:  Daniel 4-6; John 18   Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that goes along with the daily Bible reading for New Hope Church in Brandon, Florida.  Let's get into our Scripture for today.    For our Old Testament reading, we are in the book of Daniel, chapters 4-6.  All three of these chapters, though different, emphasize God's sovereignty through kings and kingdoms.  In chapter 4, Daniel interprets a dream for the king about a tree that shelters the world.  The tree is cut down by an angel.  Daniel, with a fair amount of trepidation, tells the king that it means he, the king, will essentially lose his mind.  He will become like a wild animal and eat grass in the pasture.  Daniel implores the king to stop sinning and get right with God.    Everything that Daniel interpreted in the dream eventually came true.  The king lost his sanity and became like a cow in the field.  But in time, Nebuchadnezzar came to and began to worship the one true God.  He gained his sanity and gave praises to the Lord.   By chapter 5, there is a new king, Belshazzar.  He holds a big feast and decides to use the vessels from the Lord's Temple to drink from.  A hand appears and begins to write on the wall.  The king's magicians can't understand it, so the king calls for Daniel.  Daniel boldly tells the king that God isn't pleased with his arrogance and how he is drinking from cups taken from the Temple while giving praise to false gods.    The message included these words: numbered, weighed, and divided.  Daniel interpreted what they meant.  Numbered indicated that the king's days were numbered and would end soon.  Weighed means the king was weighed on the scale but did not measure up.  Finally, divided means that the kingdom will be divided between the Medes and the Persians.  King Belshazzar died that very night and Darius, the Mede, was made king.   Chapter 6 is a passage that most of us are familiar with – Daniel and the lions' den.  When the Babylonians and King Nebuchadnezzar initially conquered Judah, Daniel and his friends would have been about 15.  Now, time has passed.  A lot has happened.  God has been faithful to these Jewish men living in exile.  They have remained faithful to the one true God, Yahweh, despite all the idolatry around them.  They have moved up the ranks and now fulfill very high positions in the Kingdom, despite the many political changes that have happened around them.    By now, Daniel is in his early 80's.  He was still exceptional, moving up, getting promoted, and the other administrators were jealous.  How in the world has this foreigner done so well and soon he is going to be placed over the whole Kingdom and be their boss. They look for a way to trap him.  But Daniel did not have any skeletons in the closet (don't you wish we had politicians like this in our world today) – no skeletons, there is nothing they can blackmail him with – he has such high integrity.  He is a Godly man.  But then they are like, “well, that's where we are going to have to set him up.  We know he will not betray his God, so that's it!  That's where we are going to cause his downfall.”   But they have to get the king onboard, and King Darius really liked Daniel.  But, if you want to sway someone in a high position, then what do you have to do – appeal to their ego, right?  They come up to him and say, “King, aren't you the highest and greatest in the land?  Aren't you the one who deserves worship?”  And the king, in all his arrogant glory, is like “yeah, yeah, I am…”  They get the king to issue a nonreversible decree that for thirty days, no one can pray to anyone but the king.  If they break the decree, they will be thrown into a den of hungry lions.  The king was obviously arrogant but he might not have been the sharpest tool in the shed either.    But Daniel was obedient to God.  He continued to get down on his knees and pray three times a day.  How easy would it have been for Daniel to just say, “Well, for 30 days, I'm just not going to pray so that I can stay safe.”  He could have said, “I'm going to just pray in my heart and no one will know.” He could have gone into an inner room where no one would have seen him.  But no, he goes up the stairs, opens his windows, and prays publicly.  He chose not to take the safe route.  I once read that we think of the miracle as Daniel being saved from the lions' den but the real miracle was that Daniel stayed true to his convictions and kept praying knowing that he would face death.  The real miracle was that he had made a decision to trust God no matter what.  He was not going to allow some human king to tell him when and to whom he could pray.  He had one Lord and it wasn't King Darius.   We all know how the story ends.  Daniel is saved from the lions.  But what do we learn here? I keep thinking how God's people should expect opposition.  When we live for Jesus Christ, then there are forces in this world that hate that.  Whenever we have a huge spiritual victory at New Hope, we typically see some kind of big issue afterward or in the midst of it.  If you have a personal spiritual victory, please know that the enemy is going to try to make a mess of it or discourage you or lead you astray.  Be aware and be vigilant. The other big thing to mention here is trust.  Maybe you've noticed, but trusting in God is the thread that has woven together the first half of the book of Daniel.   We can trust God because God can and will deliver believers from any danger we face.  We serve a God who is trustworthy.  We serve a powerful God.  We serve a God who cares for his people.  Now, I say that and I also know that how God chooses to deliver us from our lions' dens may not be the way we want him to deliver us from our lions' dens.  In this text, God chose to send an angel to close the mouths of the lions.  It could have had a different ending.  Here's our big question - do we trust God, even when we don't know what the ending will be?  With that, let's move to the New Testament.  Our text is John 18.  Jesus has been before the Jewish high priest and the Jewish ruling council.  They can't stand him.  They not only feel threatened by him, but they are appalled about how he speaks of forgiving sins and being like the Father.  They want him to die but they don't have the power to execute him under Roman law.  They have to take him to the Roman governor, who happens to be Pontius Pilate.  As you will see, Pilate does not find Jesus to have done anything worthy of death at all but he is scared of the Jewish leaders.  We could go in a lot of different directions with this.  But I want to focus on a portion of verses 37-38, ...Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” “What is truth?” Pilate asked... Jesus came to testify to the truth.  Pilate questions if there can be truth.  The Greek word for “truth” is aletheia, and it means something like “divine revelation.”  It literally means “what can't be hidden.”  The Hebrew word for “truth” is emeth, which means firmness and immovability. Truth is not relative, nor does it change from person to person.  Truth can be offensive to some because they simply don't like how it makes them feel.  The reality is that many things can have some truth but there is only one TRUTH.  For believers, TRUTH is Jesus Christ.  John 14:6 reads, Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  Jesus is the map that leads us to all truth.  Blessings, Pastor Vicki

When my failure meets God's compassion, hope is restored. Daniel 9:4 Daniel 9:9 Daniel 9:18 When my failure meets God's compassion, hope is restored. 1 Corinthians 1:27 -- God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. Daniel 9:23 Know what God has done, then ask Him to do it again.
