Visma Lease a Bike formerly known as Jumbo Visma had a phenomenal 2023 winning all the three grandtours with Primoz Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard and Sepp Kuss. With all of them sharing the podium in the Vuelta. But the hunt for another monument for Wout van Aert will continue into 2024 and maybe in 2024 Vingegaard will repeat the Tour-Vuelta double appearance.   New signings for the team include Mateo Jorgenson and Ben Tulett while the team will have a Roglic void for the first time since he signed in 2016. Jumbo-Visma kan dankzij de komst van Lease a Bike als co-sponsor verder bouwen aan de langetermijndoelen. The European championships saw the main favourites being Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. These teams dictated the pace but in the closing moments of the race it was Christophe Laporte who hit out and the Belgian duo of Arnaud De Lie and Wout van Aert were not able to close the gap in time and the french rider won his first European Championships on the Road.

De Tour de France Femmes kreeg niet de tweestrijd tussen Demi Vollering en Annemiek van Vleuten tot aan het bittere einde. Vollering bleek in Pyreneeën uiteindelijk te goed. Wat dat betreft waren de rollen omgedraaid ten opzichte van de Tour een jaar eerder.  “De stappen die Vollering het afgelopen jaar heeft gezet zijn inmens.”, zegt Roxane Knetemann. “Ze doet mij heel erg denken aan Anna van der Bregggen, die ook haar ploegleider is. “ Mart Smeets is het met die conclusie eens: “Ze is een geslaagde kopie.”  Demi Vollering was dus op haar best, dat kan niet gezegd worden van haar rivale. Annemiek van Vleuten gaf zelf na de finish van de tijdrit aan dat ze zich niet helemaal lekker voelt. Jip van den Bos, ziet dat terug in het rijden van de laatste twee dagen. “Eerder deze week, was ze beter dan ik haar dit hele jaar heb gezien, maar in de laatste twee dagen zakt ze er helemaal doorheen.”  Mart Smeets, is ook zwaar onder de indruk is van het rijden van de Belgische Lotte Kopecky. Normaal gesproken iemand die het met een sterke eindsprint goed doet in de eendaagse koersen, nu bleef ze het geel lang verdedigen en klom mee met de besten. “Niet normaal,” vindt Jip van den Bos. “Eigenlijk is ze een vrouwelijke Wout van Aert”, zegt Maxim Horssels. Roxane Knetemann is het daarmee eens, maar plaats er ook een kanttekening bij: “De klimmersbubbel is bij de dames nog veel kleiner dan bij de heren. Maar dan loop ik wel te azijnzeiken, want we hebben echt iets groots gezien van haar.”  De leden van De Kopgroep zijn het erover eens dat deze tweede editie van de Tour de France Femmes een zeer geslaagde was, met meerdere geweldige etappes en een grootse winnares. “Het vrouwenwielrennen is de grote winnaar.” Zegt Roxane Knetemann.

Nadat de mannen een ochtend op de fiets hebben doorgebracht, Wim Hof hebben uitgehangen en koelboxen kilometers hebben meegesleurd, ploften ze op tijd in de zetel om de laatste renners hun race tegen de klok te zien rijden. Contre la montre. Wout Poels wint de vijftiende etappe van de Tour de France! Voor de eerste keer deze Tour wint een Nederlander een etappe. Na een demarrage met Wout van Aert en Marc Soler vluchtte Wout Poels een aantal kilometer voor de finish weg. Hij kwam uiteindelijk op twee minuten voor van Aert over de streep.  Maar kniperde je gisteravond een keer met je ogen, dan miste gewoon de finish van de Nederlander. De leden van De Kopgroep bespreken wat de Franse regie hier beter had kunnen doen. Mart is allesbehalve enthousiast over de Franse eindregisseur, maar het hoort volgens hem ook een beetje bij de Tour. Ook na de rit van gisteren is er weer een nieuwe nummer 69. In a very frank interview with Radio Cycling's Chris Marshall-Bell, Israel-PremierTech team owner Sylvan Adams explains why four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome didn't merit a place in their Tour de France line-up and says that the British rider hasn't fulfilled the hopes IPT had for him when he signed an extremely lucrative multi-year contract three years ago. "He's supposed to be our leader at the Tour de France and he's not even here, so no I couldn't say he's value for money, no," Adams declares.While stating that he has the utmost respect for Froome and his racing achievements, Adams compares the seven-time Grand Tour victor to basketball all-time great Michael Jordan during his final season in the NBA, stating, "Father Time spares no athlete."
