Rian Hadley is fourteen runs from freedom when his atmospheric scrubber starts pulling living tissue out of a poisoned gas giant.Disgraced, unlicensed, and buried under corporate liability debt, Rian works the Geryon Basin, where two million colonists were declared dead after a biological attack. Pilots are paid by the cubic meter to filter the contaminated clouds, and the rules are simple: stay inside the approved corridors, keep the grinders running, and never waste time chasing bad readings.Then Rian's sensors find a pocket of clean, breathable air below the work zone. He descends and discovers vast living membranes strung through the ruins, machinery still cycling beneath them, and signs that the dead basin is not empty. When harpoons tear into his scrubber, curiosity becomes a fight to escape.With fuel leaking, his hull failing, and company navigation software erasing whole regions from the map, Rian has to climb through crush depths, black shears, and violent storm cells using instruments he barely trusts. Survival is only the first problem. What he carries back could cost far more than the debt that brought him there.

Pour son directeur général, Adebowale Adeyeye, il est temps de mettre fin à un modèle où les matières premières africaines sont transformées en Asie avant d'être commercialisées sur le marché européen. « Il est nécessaire de renforcer notre relation directe avec la France, de rompre avec ce commerce triangulaire et de réfléchir à la manière dont nous pouvons créer de la valeur à la fois localement et en France, pour des produits consommés en France mais issus d'Afrique. C'est la stratégie que nous mettons en œuvre. Avec le cacao, la noix de cajou, la gomme arabique, ou le gingembre. Notre objectif, c'est de réduire les délais de transport et de transit, de maximiser la création de valeur, et de permettre aux consommateurs d'accéder à des produits de la meilleure qualité, au meilleur prix », explique-t-il. Pour concrétiser cette stratégie, l'entreprise a ouvert un bureau à Paris afin de partir à la conquête du marché européen. Pour Adebowale Adeyeye, la France s'est imposée naturellement. « La France entretient des relations historiques très fortes avec l'Afrique. De nombreux pays africains sont francophones et d'anciennes colonies françaises, ce qui explique la solidité de ces liens. Je suis d'origine nigériane et j'ai grandi entouré de pays francophones. La France dispose d'une politique africaine très affirmée. Son intérêt pour l'Afrique, ainsi que son engagement en matière d'investissement et de développement du continent, sont également des raisons qui ont motivé notre décision. » Un entrepôt puis une usine près de Marseille Le bureau français de Creativo El Matador doit créer 24 emplois en trois ans. L'entreprise est accompagnée par Business France. Pour Nicole Blazik, directrice des projets d'investissements internationaux de l'agence, basée à Johannesburg, cette implantation s'inscrit dans une stratégie de développement classique : « Il veut être entre les deux continents, il veut exporter ses produits, vendre en Europe et également sourcer des produits européens et français pour les faire revenir en Afrique. Souvent, les entreprises commencent avec un bureau commercial et ensuite elles veulent enchaîner avec une unité de production. Exactement ce que Creativo El Matador va faire ». Longtemps considérée comme un frein, la barrière de la langue n'est plus un obstacle, sourit Adebowale Adeyeye. With the recent wave of milestones across the U.S. nuclear sector, we were eager to better understand what these achievements mean for the future of advanced reactors. Over the past month, Antares, Valar Atomics, Deployable Energy, and Aalo Atomics each achieved criticality, an important technical milestone, through the Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program (RPP) and Nuclear Energy Launch Pad. To help us put these milestones into context, we were delighted to host Dr. Rian Bahran, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactors in the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy. Rian oversees the Department's portfolio for advanced reactor research, demonstration, and deployment, and is a career member of the Senior Executive Service who has served under both the Biden and Trump Administrations. We were thrilled to visit with Rian to "demystify" the latest developments in U.S. nuclear and discuss what still needs to happen before these technologies reach commercial scale. In our conversation, Rian explains why the four recent criticality milestones represent an important step forward for advanced nuclear. While criticality is not the finish line, he shares how these demonstrations help validate a new commercialization pathway by allowing companies to build and test nuclear hardware in months rather than years. He describes how the Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot and Launch Pad initiatives are creating greater regulatory certainty, helping companies unlock private capital, and accelerating progress toward commercial deployment. We discuss the DOE's broader strategy for expanding U.S. nuclear capacity, from gigawatt-scale reactors and small modular reactors to microreactors. Rian explains why the DOE is pursuing multiple technologies simultaneously, allowing the market to determine the winning designs while supporting innovation across the reactor, fuel cycle, and supply chain ecosystems. He outlines how reactor uprates, restarts, and investments across the nuclear fuel cycle can provide near-term additions to U.S. generating capacity while advanced reactors continue progressing toward commercialization. We explore the role advanced nuclear could play in powering AI infrastructure, military installations, industrial facilities, and future export markets. Rian discusses how the DOE is leveraging AI to accelerate reactor design, licensing, manufacturing, and deployment, and why workforce development has become one of the industry's greatest long-term challenges. He emphasizes that the U.S. has reached a true inflection point for nuclear energy, driven by unprecedented alignment across government, industry, private capital, and growing electricity demand. It was a wide-ranging and fascinating discussion, and we sincerely appreciate Rian taking the time to join us during such a busy time. Mike Bradley kicked us off by noting that three key themes have driven markets so far this quarter. First, Treasury yields have continued to move higher, with the 10-year Treasury yield rising to approximately 4.55% and the 30-year Treasury yield climbing above 5%. Second, renewed geopolitical uncertainty following the end of the Iranian ceasefire helped lift WTI crude oil prices by roughly $4/bbl this week to approximately $72/bbl. Third, equity markets have experienced notable sector rotation, with investors shifting capital out of semiconductor stocks and back into the Magnificent 7. Mike concluded by highlighting the sharp reversal in sentiment toward small modular reactor (SMR) companies. While SMR stocks were among the market's strongest performers entering 2026 amid growing enthusiasm for nuclear power, the group is now down roughly 30% on average year-to-date. Nick Morriss, Brett Rampal, and Veriten Senior Advisor Bill Flores also joined the discussion, contributing their perspectives and questions on nuclear energy and power.

Premiering in the Directors' Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival, "I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning" is Clio Barnard's adaptation of Keiran Goddard's acclaimed novel about five childhood friends from working-class Birmingham whose lives have drifted far from the futures they once imagined. My guest today is director Rian Johnson, which is exciting for me, because I've been a huge fan of his ever since seeing his first feature film, ‘Brick,'  in 2006. Since then, he's made six more feature films, including ‘Looper‘ in 2012; ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ in 2017; the murder mystery ‘Knives Out‘ in 2019; and his most recent movie, another in the 'Knives Out' series, ‘Wake Up Dead Man,‘ which is already out in theaters, and comes to Netflix on December 12.
