The series first aired on ITV in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2010, and in the United States on PBS, which supported production of the series as part of its Masterpiece Classic anthology, on 9 January 2011. Cymande (pronounced /sɪˈmɑːndeɪ/ sih-MAHN-day) is a British funk group that was originally active in the early 1970s. The band name derives from a calypso word for "Dove", which symbolises peace and love;"Dove" is also the title of one of their best-known songs. With a membership deriving from several Caribbean nations, Cymande were noted for an eclectic mix of funk, soul, reggae, rock, African music, calypso, and jazz that they called "nyah-rock".

Skip to minute 4 if you don’t want to hear a story about Ken getting a burrito bowl. This week’s episode we discuss a beautiful miss mash of tv and movies. Ken watched John Carpenter’s They Live. Kendra hit the nail on the head when she called Ken insufferable. Kendra explains the best part of Euphoria (pretty much Zendaya). She also saw Railway Children a 2000 Masterpiece Classic about kids who hang out near the railway because of treason. She liked it so much she immediately changed the subject and talked about a Netflix trailer. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kendraken/support
Some rock bands hit it big right away. For Fleetwood Mac, it happened with their 11th album "Rumours," released on this date, February 4, 1977. Allan looks back in today's Classic Rock Calendar... Image: PR Photos
After two albums, the Clash were already tired of being grouped into the punk scene. They would finally break away with their third album "London Calling," released on this date, December 14, 1979. Allan looks back in today's Classic Rock Calendar... Image: PR Photos
Just six months after their self-titled debut, Black Sabbath released a follow-up album made up of all their remaining material. It would be the first heavy metal masterpiece when "Paranoid" was released on this date, September 18, 1970. Allan looks back in today's Classic Rock Calendar... Image: Solarpix / PR Photos
No one was really sure what to make of it at that time, and it ended up driving the Beach Boys apart - but when "Pet Sounds" was released on May 16, 1966, it would ultimately lead to the Beatles making "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Allan looks back in today's Classic Rock Calendar... Image: PR Photos

Knock-knock! Who's there? Why, it's The Guest! Come on in! Adam Wingard (You're Next)'s 2014 film is a . . . well, to start attributing genres might give stuff away. But there's definitely violence. And a lot of synth music. It stars former British heartthrob (meaning pudgy) turned Hollywood heartthrob (meaning distractingly jacked) Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Masterpiece Classic) and Lance Reddick (The Wire, What the Deaf Man Heard). Downton Abbey fans have seen scant evidence of 20th-century media in the Masterpiece Classic program, but that may change in coming seasons. Thanks to the founding of BBC Radio in 1927, estates in financial trouble like that which Downton faces in season 4 get a huge boon, says Shundana Yusaf SM '01. In this edition of the MIT Alumni Books Podcast, Yusaf, a professor of architecture at the University of Utah, discusses her book Broadcasting Buildings: Architecture on the Wireless. Kelly and Tom set out to change the way the internet experiences Mr. Selfridge. Their discussion of the two-hour Masterpiece Classic premiere involves a LOT of made-up names, LinneyWatch 2013, the smile that dropped a thousand panties, the Ginger Gregson, a Torchwood alien, and the niceness of people being nice to one another. All this, plus Kelly is the Regina George of slumber parties, Tom is declared an honorary woman, and the Cousins grace us with a plethora of lengthy, informative Telegrams. This recap of Downton Abbey S1:E6 is accompanied by the sounds of the wild Patmore and Carson’s tardy dressing gong as Kelly and Tom consider the effects of breeding on being patronizing, McG’s scheming prowess, Julian Fellowes’ private life, how to get Batesed, Daisy’s belated self-awareness, the trouble with fairies, the difference between a crush and a concussion, and the way that nothing bad ever starts in Germany. In addition, they announce the trivia contest winner, read some freaky-beatnik poems, and whine about Masterpiece Classic’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad editing.
