Sarah Turney is a prominent voice in true crime. She runs her own podcast, Voices for Justice. She previously was interviewed in journalist Ottavia Zappala's podcast Missing Alissa. That's because Turney's sister Alissa vanished years ago, and her father Michael was arrested in the case in 2020.Recently, Turney has taken to social media and Voices for Justice to blast Ottavia and Missing Alissa. She's made all sorts of wild claims, including implying that Ottavia tried to sue her for speaking out about Alissa. We were curious and dug into Turney's claims. We found that they're untrue. We also interviewed Ottavia about her story, what really happened between her and Turney, and what she has to say about some of Turney's claims. Here's our past statements on lies that Sarah Turney told about us on The Fall Line: https://art19.com/shows/murder-sheet/episodes/1dd5469f-8bb5-4492-9dce-53324855c3b1Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC .See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
It was May 17, 2001, when Alissa stopped by her boyfriend John's shop class to tell him she was leaving school early and that she'd see him later that night at a party. After that, Alissa's trail goes cold and over the years her case got even colder. Thank is… until a new lead led investigators to a suspect close to home. Now with an ongoing trial and a family inches from justice, we're still left wondering: What happened to Alissa Turney? In 2006, a fake confession by a self-proclaimed serial killer would finally have people looking at the case of a 17-year-old who had been missing since May 2001. When police finally started looking into Alissa Turney's disappearance, they noticed a lot of stuff about her home life that was unusual...including the behavior of her stepdad before and after she went missing. Did Alissa run away, or did something much more sinister happen? Today we hear the tale of Alissa Turney who, in 2001, went missing from Phoenix, Arizona. With nothing but a note saying she was running away her stepfather, Michael Roy Turney, retains she ran to California to this day. Years later, Michael was arrested for stashing home-made explosives with intent to commit an act of domestic terrorism and his claim that Alissa had run away was looked at with more scrutiny. While Michael was imprisoned, his daughter and Alissa's sister Sarah had begun to see the truth that her father was a completely different man than she had previously believed. Today she joins us and tells us the story from her perspective, how she began to see past her fathers narrative, and why she believes that Michael killed her sister. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special thank you to Sarah Turney for joining us visit her website for more information at: https://justiceforalissa.com/ Another great podcast that covers every aspect of this story is Missing Alissa, a podcast by Ottavia Zappala https://www.missingalissa.com/ Another special thanks to Kevin MacLeod for his song "Hitman" which we use as our intro and background music through the episode. https://incompetech.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reach us at: Email: DarkTalePodcast@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/ADarkTalepod
