Holly and Bryan are joined once again by Tom Spina from Tom Spina Designs and Regal Robot. In this episode of SW Characters, we talk about the fuzzball Muftak and the small Kabe!!
"The Mos Eisley Spaceport...you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum, and villainy....we must be cautious." Once again, we light a cigarillo of Tabac, pour a tall one of Gamorrean Hooch, and settle back to discuss two more tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. On this Deeper Delve we begin with legendary author Timothy Zahn's tale of the Tonnika Sisters: Brea and Senni....only it turns out it's really Shada and Karoly! Confused.....just wait. What's a Hammertong? If you think it's something you use for barbecuing, well your close.....it is used for barbecuing a planet. We then go on an adventure with the thieving hi jinx of Tatooine's bumbling duo Muftak and Kabe. The Clone Wars may have said Muftak's species lived on a snow planet, but in this story, it's all cocoon's and tropics under an azure sky. But will you get you fill of Juri juice from this story, or will it leave you hanging like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible?
For this week’s Episode, Barry, Dave and Tod traveled to the ultra-secret undisclosed location of the Regal Robot / Tom Spina Designs studios (which Tod could not find even with a GPS) to see some amazingly cool stuff they can’t talk about and spend quality time hanging out with maker / props-smiths Tom Spina, Gordon Tarpley and David Woodruff. Inevitably, there is lots of Star Wars talk, which is impossible to avoid when you’re sitting in a room with a life-size, and disturbingly hairless, Chewbacca mannequin, but also Batman and even the odd Star Trek reference. It’s a wide ranging, far flung, free-for-all, as the six friends, old and new, dig deep into the nerd culture that unites as all. So, pull up a chair and join us. Thanks for listening!
That's right, they're ALL the Muftak. Not really. Wouldn't it be wild if they were? This week, Ben and Ash do a grab bag discussion of production design in Star Wars! They touch on costumes, props, and starships (of course), all while walking through a couple of the Star Wars Visual Dictionaries for clarity's sake. There's a fair bit of nostalgia in this one, too. Since this episode was recorded a week early, Ben's Creature Madness bracket has probably been completely obliterated by this point. Moment of silence for him. Our hosts watch Season 1 Episode 15, Trespass. The hosts discuss the bonkers characters in the Mos Eisley Cantina including Muftak the Talz and Space Satan. The hosts agree that this story worked very well as a standalone episode and would have been worse as an arc of multiple episodes. David says that the moral was too simplistic. Zac doesn’t think any of the Talz timeline makes sense. Jess didn’t expect Anakin to be so good at pictionary. Onto this week's adventures in Clone Wars!
