Every year, trawlers operating off Alaska's coast legally catch, kill, and toss overboard tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of salmon, along with millions of pounds of halibut, herring, crab, and, occasionally, some killer whales. It's leading to fewer opportunities for sport and subsistence fishermen. With Mike away in Japan, we're coming to you with a special pre-recorded episode that is all over the place. Erin kicks things off by sipping a new Apple Ginger Red Bull from a PR package she's still mysteriously receiving. Mike shares his anxiety about attending his very first HOA meeting. Erin then dives into a rant about the new digital pyramid scheme: people making $80k a month by selling courses that only teach other people how to sell that same course. We also debate why mocktails cost the same as cocktails, provide a major update on the "Fish Hook Man", and recount Erin's existential crisis at CVS after a pharmacist told her the computer "will decide if you're real" and then declared "you don't exist." In our science segment, a study on Olympic athletes proves Erin is an Olympian, which leads to us being grossed out by the fact that we have skeletons and blood inside our bodies. In honor of Mike's trip, he shares amazing facts about Japan, including an airport that hasn't lost a bag in 30 years, vending machines that provide free drinks during earthquakes, the ability to rent an elderly man for $6.58/hour, and the incredible story of a baseball fan who passed a home run ball around the entire stadium before it was politely returned to her. We also investigate why the NFL makes fans return footballs caught in the stands and rant about TikTok's broken algorithm. We end by discussing the "cinematic" old school heist at the Louvre and sharing a heartwarming video of a fisherman celebrating tiny fish just so they don't feel left out.

Episode Summary: This episode of the Rich Mind Podcast tackles one of the biggest hidden sources of unhappiness: our expectations. Randy and Greg explore the "happiness gap"—the space between our current reality and the future we expect—and how this gap dictates our level of satisfaction in life. They discuss the two primary forms of toxic expectations: those we place on others (often leading to disappointment) and the unrealistic, self-imposed expectations we place on ourselves (often leading to burnout and self-sabotage). Drawing on wisdom from Jim Rohn and Earl Nightingale, this conversation is a guide to letting go of rigid outcomes, practicing gratitude for the present, and cultivating a healthy sense of expectancy for a great future without being attached to the details. Key Takeaways: Your level of happiness is determined by the size of the gap between your expectations and your current reality. Placing rigid expectations on other people is a setup for disappointment, as you cannot control their actions. We often carry childhood disappointments (like Randy's Trans Am story) into our adult lives, creating a paradigm of expecting the worst. There is a crucial difference between having high standards and having unrealistic, self-sabotaging expectations of yourself. You can't force inspiration or progress; sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is give yourself grace and relax. A powerful framework for a happy life, from Earl Nightingale, is to combine daily gratitude for what you have with a positive expectancy for what's to come. A great journal prompt to uncover hidden frustrations is: "What expectation is driving my frustration right now?" Questions Answered in This Episode: How do our expectations directly affect our happiness? Why is placing expectations on other people a recipe for disappointment? How can you stop setting unrealistic expectations for yourself? What is the difference between healthy expectancy and toxic expectations? How can you give yourself grace without losing your drive to achieve? What did Earl Nightingale mean by "gratitude and expectancy"? How can journaling help you identify and manage your expectations? How do you find the balance between having ambitious goals and being happy in the present moment? Key People, Concepts, & Terms: People: Randy Wilson, Greg Junge, Jim Rohn, Earl Nightingale. Concepts: Expectations, Happiness Gap, Disappointment, Self-Sabotage, Gratitude, Expectancy, Grace, Personal Development, Journaling, Paradigms. The Parlando Project takes various words (mostly literary poetry) and combines them with original music in differing styles. We've done over 850 of these combinations, and you can hear any of them and read more about our encounters with the words at our archives and blog located at frankhudson.org

Florida and Texas are ground zero for a massive financial experiment... the “Great Equity Reset.” New insurance laws, zoning rollbacks, and real estate ownership databases are quietly testing how far states can push homeowners before they're forced to drain their home equity. The Man Who Robbed Banks and Found God in a Cell: Julian Miller | The Hopeaholics Podcast In this powerful and deeply emotional episode, Julian Miller shares his remarkable journey from crime and chaos to redemption and purpose. Once a young man lost to the streets, Julian recounts the pivotal moments that defined his life — witnessing his cousin's death at ten years old, falling into addiction, and ultimately making the desperate decision to rob a bank that landed him in prison. What began as a story of destruction turns into one of grace and transformation, as Julian reveals how incarceration became his awakening. Inside Rikers Island, amid withdrawal and despair, he found faith, discipline, and a renewed sense of identity. Through scripture, writing, and reflection, he reshaped his future, emerging not only sober but spiritually alive. Today, Julian uses his story to mentor youth, inspire students through poetry, and speak hope into the lives of those still trapped in cycles of pain and poor decisions. His testimony is a raw and inspiring reminder that no matter how dark your past, redemption is always possible when faith and purpose take hold.#thehopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #Hope #wedorecover #treatmentcenter #natalieevamarieJoin our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Go to www.Wolfpak.com today and support our sponsors. The Misfits were truly unique. Scary. Violent. Angry. Nihilistic. These words can easily describe not only their music, but also the band as people, particularly frontman Glenn Danzig. Rumored to have been arrested for grave robbery, locked up abroad and inciting riots here in the States, the Misfits blazed a path of annihilation trading on fictional B-movie and scandal rag imagery to create one of the most enduring cult followings of all time and combating the very real sense of alienation that fueled Danzig's creativity and violent behavior. This week we're discussing the Three Things Robbing You of Self-Care Many single parents are told to “take care of yourself,” yet what looks like rest can quietly drain us. Performance disguised as self care, doing everything alone, and endless comparison often leave us more depleted, ashamed, or isolated. Add in escapism, toxic positivity, or rumination, and we miss what our hearts actually need. These patterns matter because they stall healing, strain relationships, and keep us stuck in survival when what we really want is peace, presence, and energy for what matters most. Today, we cover three main points: Three survival mechanisms disguised as self care The hidden costs of false self care How to tell healthy from harmful Self care does not have to be fancy to be faithful. Pay attention to what leaves you more present, more connected, and more at ease, and keep choosing that. Stay Connected + Get Support: We want to answer any Solo Parent questions you may have. In this episode we are talking about corporate scandals, selfishness, and how game theory can help us understand when people give in to temptation. Carlos Alós-Ferrer explains how his “Big Robber” experiment shows that while people often act pro-socially in classical economic games, things change when individuals are given the chance to earn large sums of money at the expense of harming many others. We also discuss how insights from psychology and neuroscience enrich economics by highlighting the importance of process data such as response times. Carlos Alós-Ferrer is Chair Professor of Economics at Lancaster University (UK). His research spans economics, psychology, and neuroscience, with a focus on decision-making processes and the interdisciplinary field of psycho-economics. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economic Psychology and also writes the blog Decisions and the Brain on Psychology Today.

What if the biggest threat to your long-term success is the way you're prioritizing today? In this episode, I break down a powerful mental trap called hyperbolic discounting— a hidden habit where we consistently choose short-term rewards over long-term gains. From skipping important business projects to clients picking bad mortgage terms for a lower rate today, this bias shows up everywhere. I'll share what it is, how to spot it, and what I personally do to protect future Scott from present Scott's worst instincts. What We Cover: Why We Set Big Goals and Still Procrastinate – How your brain tricks you into short-term decisions that hurt your future. Mortgage Clients Do This Too – The psychology behind picking a bad mortgage to save a few bucks now. The Homer Simpson Problem – Why "future you" keeps getting stuck cleaning up "current you's" mess. My 23-Year Vision Trick – How visualizing my 70-year-old self helps me stay focused today. How to Override the Bias – A simple morning routine that changed how I work, think, and plan. You don't have to be perfect— you just have to be intentional. Start showing up for your future self today, and you'll thank yourself tomorrow. Lee Morris' life story is a raw and powerful journey from bank robbery and brutal prison time to redemption. Growing up in Duchess County, New York, Lee's childhood was shaken by his parents' divorce, leading him down a troubled path. After moving to Florida as a teenager, he fell in with the wrong crowd, began robbing houses, and eventually escalated to robbing a bank — a decision that landed him four years in one of Florida's toughest youthful offender prisons. Even after his release, Lee continued down a destructive road and was sent back to prison 16 years later for drug charges. Today, he's sharing his story of survival, the realities of prison life, and how he finally turned his life around after years of chaos and incarceration. #PrisonStories #TrueCrimePodcast #BankRobbery #PrisonLife #FloridaPrison #RedemptionStory #SecondChances #LockedInWithIanBick Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Intro: The Bank Robbery 00:18 Lee's Troubled Childhood 03:02 Family Background and Early Influences 06:00 Growing Up in Poverty 09:19 Early Delinquency and Moving to Florida 13:14 Getting Involved with Guns and Crime 15:36 From House Robberies to Robbing a Bank 18:16 The Bank Heist Unfolds 20:54 Aftermath: Getting Caught and Facing Court 25:00 Prison: Sentencing and First Days 27:00 Surviving Florida Youthful Offender Prison 33:36 Prison Violence and Racism 40:44 Learning Prison Rules and Inmate Justice 45:12 Family Support During Incarceration 47:51 Smuggling, Confinement, and Prison Life 52:52 Release: Getting Out and Reentering Society 55:40 Back to the Streets: Drugs, Probation, and Temptation 01:01:03 Drifting Back into Crime 01:04:49 Major Drug Case and Second Arrest 01:07:40 Second Prison Term: Adult System 01:13:33 Contrasts Between Youthful Offender and Adult Prison 01:15:54 Lessons Learned From Prison 01:20:27 Work Release and Returning to Society 01:24:12 Making a Fresh Start: Moving North 01:26:00 Finding Support and Unconditional Love 01:28:03 Life Today and Reflections 01:29:00 Advice for Young People & Final Thoughts Powered by: Just Media House : https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Creative direction, design, assets, support by FWRD: https://www.fwrd.co Learn more about your ad choices. When we think about the eighth commandment, we often think about not stealing money, property, or investments from our neighbor. But what about when we steal their joy, or rob them of happiness? What about when we become so vexing to another human that we steal their countenance and delight. This is how we will consider the eighth commandment in this week's law homily.
