shrinkflation Shrinkflation Is Robbing You Blind | Episode 590 Good morning. This is James from SurvivalPunk.com. It's 46 degrees. I'm cold. I don't like being cold. But that's not what we're talking about today. Today we're talking about something that affects every single one of us every single week. Shrinkflation. And how companies are quietly screwing you over while pretending nothing changed. Listen now. What Shrinkflation Actually Is Shrinkflation is simple. The bag looks the same. The box looks the same. The price looks the same. But you're getting less. Your “pound” bag of chips? Not a pound anymore.16 ounces becomes 14.5 ounces.Same packaging. Same shelf space. Same mental price anchor. They don't raise the price because people notice price increases. They shrink the product because most people never check the weight. That's the game. Why It Works on Your Brain Everyone has internal price anchors. You know what Coke “should” cost. You know what ground beef “should” cost. You know what eggs “should” cost. When the price jumps too far past that mental number, you hesitate. You buy less. You switch brands. So instead of raising prices aggressively, companies keep the sticker steady and shave ounces off the back end. That's less likely to trigger your brain. And it works. The Worst Offenders Right Now Chips.Soda.Single-serve snacks. The further you get from bulk, the worse the value gets. A 12-pack of Coke creeping toward $9.97? That's insane. Run the unit math. If it's buy 2 get 3 free at Kroger, do the math.Total cost divided by total units. If it comes out to $4 a case? That's closer to reality. Unit price is king. Always. Same with meat. Ground beef has exploded. But sometimes a 50/50 beef-pork blend at Walmart hits that sweet spot. Closer to ingredients = better value.Closer to convenience = you're getting wrecked. Ingredients Beat Snacks Every Time Plain oats? Still solid.Rice? Still dependable.Flour? Still cheap. Bulk ingredients have padding built in. They absorb inflation better. Single-serve cookies? Astronomical. Two cookies can cost almost as much as a full bag. And if you run the math on making them from scratch, the ROI is ridiculous. The closer you move toward bulk, the better your survival position gets. That's not theory. That's math. Group Buys Might Be the Secret Weapon This might be its own episode. But think about this. Shipping kills value. Whether it's supplements, bulk meat, or specialty items. Split that shipping with friends? Now the math changes. Split a primal cut of beef.Split bulk orders.Split shipping costs. Suddenly your unit price drops dramatically. We talk prepping all the time. But cost discipline is prep too. Final Thoughts Shrinkflation is real. They're not just raising prices. They're reducing value. Your defense is simple: Check weight.Check unit price.Buy bulk.Run the math.Split costs when you can. Stop shopping emotionally.Start shopping strategically. That's survival in 2026. This is James from SurvivalPunk.com. DIY to survive. January 23, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 83 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers and their ongoing search for a new head coach. Alex and I discuss the Baltimore Ravens hiring Jesse Minter as their new head coach. We also discuss Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver having an in-person meeting with the Steelers on Friday. We also talk about DC Brian Flores signing a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings and what it is likely to mean or not mean. Brian Baldinger said on Thursday that he thinks the Steelers might be interested in Miami Hurricanes HC Mario Cristobal. We discuss his report on that topic during this show. We also go over the fact that the Steelers are seemingly now down to five final candidates for their head coach job, pending any other late interviews happening. Alex and I go over the situations and rules related to the Steelers possibly having any interest in any members on the staffs of the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos during this show. The Steelers signed another player to a Reserve/Future contract on Thursday, so we make sure to recap that transaction. Should a potential duo of Mike Shula as Steelers head coach and Nate Scheelhaase as offensive coordinator be a concern to fans when it comes to potentially having the latter of the two robbed from the team in the next years? Alex and I discuss that question due to social media concern related to that topic. In the middle of this show, Alex and I discuss the future of Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey in 2026. We go over his contract, his current salary cap charge, and the decisions the Steelers will need to make concerning Ramsey's roster and option bonuses in his contract. The NFL will play their Conference Championship games on Sunday, so ahead of those two games taking place, Alex and I pick the two contests against the spreads that are listed on MyBookie.ag, a longtime sponsor of our podcast. Lastly, Alex and I go over the several emails responses we have received from listeners of the show related to the four quarterback questions we asked late during the Wednesday show. There were a ton of emails to read and while we hit a lot of them, we were unfortunately unable to get to all of them. Alex and I discuss the likelihood of the Steelers trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Mac Jones to close out this Friday episode of the podcast. This 99-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Minnesota's Somali problem is an open door to the major issues with mass migration and corrupt governments profiting from human trafficking and slave labor. Covid opened the door to outlandish spending and inconceivable levels of fraud, and now Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar is being more closely scrutinized for her connections to criminal Somalis who've been robbing the Covid welfare programs blind. A former Minnesota food plant worker says huge differences between American and Somali cultures collide in the very places that supply North America much of its food.

With Mike away in Japan, we're coming to you with a special pre-recorded episode that is all over the place. Erin kicks things off by sipping a new Apple Ginger Red Bull from a PR package she's still mysteriously receiving. Mike shares his anxiety about attending his very first HOA meeting. Erin then dives into a rant about the new digital pyramid scheme: people making $80k a month by selling courses that only teach other people how to sell that same course. We also debate why mocktails cost the same as cocktails, provide a major update on the "Fish Hook Man", and recount Erin's existential crisis at CVS after a pharmacist told her the computer "will decide if you're real" and then declared "you don't exist." In our science segment, a study on Olympic athletes proves Erin is an Olympian, which leads to us being grossed out by the fact that we have skeletons and blood inside our bodies. In honor of Mike's trip, he shares amazing facts about Japan, including an airport that hasn't lost a bag in 30 years, vending machines that provide free drinks during earthquakes, the ability to rent an elderly man for $6.58/hour, and the incredible story of a baseball fan who passed a home run ball around the entire stadium before it was politely returned to her. We also investigate why the NFL makes fans return footballs caught in the stands and rant about TikTok's broken algorithm. We end by discussing the "cinematic" old school heist at the Louvre and sharing a heartwarming video of a fisherman celebrating tiny fish just so they don't feel left out.

They don't ask. They just change the rules... print more, pay you less, and call it “policy.” And the worst part? Most people don't even notice until their 401(k) balance looks smaller and prices look bigger. But there's a way out of this trap. And then there's THIS! Florida and Texas are ground zero for a massive financial experiment... the “Great Equity Reset.” New insurance laws, zoning rollbacks, and real estate ownership databases are quietly testing how far states can push homeowners before they're forced to drain their home equity. In this video, we expose the hidden connection between Florida's flood-insurance mandates, Texas's zoning overhaul, and the data giants pulling the strings behind your premiums and property values. Discover how your home equity became the next target... and what you can do right now to protect yourself before this spreads nationwide. Enjoy the show! Learn more about your ad choices. The Misfits were truly unique. Scary. Violent. Angry. Nihilistic. These words can easily describe not only their music, but also the band as people, particularly frontman Glenn Danzig. Rumored to have been arrested for grave robbery, locked up abroad and inciting riots here in the States, the Misfits blazed a path of annihilation trading on fictional B-movie and scandal rag imagery to create one of the most enduring cult followings of all time and combating the very real sense of alienation that fueled Danzig's creativity and violent behavior.
