«Ich liebe es, zu gewinnen», sagte Donald Trump in einem Interview mit dem TV-Sender CBS am Dienstagabend. Was der US-Präsident weniger sportlich meinte als machtpolitisch. Seit seinem «Sieg» in Venezuela, dem gelungenen Coup in Caracas gegen den Diktator Nicolás Maduro, will er mehr solche Siege. Unverfroren erhebt Trump Anspruch auf Grönland. Es genügt ihm nicht, die Bodenschätze der Arktisinsel nach Belieben ausbeuten und so viele US-Basen errichten zu können, wie er möchte. Der frühere Immobilienhändler Trump will Grönland besitzen, und er gebärdet sich so, als könne ihn nichts aufhalten. Das grenzt inzwischen an Hybris, an Selbstüberschätzung, was in der Politik weitreichende Folgen haben kann.In seinem Fokus steht aktuell auch der Iran. «Hilfe ist unterwegs», sagte Trump im erwähnten Interview weiter. Woraus diese Hilfe besteht, wollte er nicht ausführen, ein Militäreinsatz scheint nicht ausgeschlossen, Hauptsache, Trump kann einen weiteren Sieg verbuchen.Zu einer Kontroverse haben in den USA die Schüsse von Minneapolis geführt. Fast eine Woche nach dem Tod der 37-jährigen Renee Good bei einem Einsatz der US-Einwanderungsbehörde ICE kommt es in Minneapolis zu Zusammenstössen zwischen Demonstrierenden und Bundesbeamten. Empörte Bewohner der Grossstadt in Minnesota buhen und pfeifen die schwer bewaffneten Einwanderungsbeamten aus, sobald diese auftauchen.Kritik äussern nur wenige Exponenten der US-Politik. Jerome Powell gehört dazu. Der Chef der Notenbank FED weist ein gegen ihn eröffnetes Verfahren des amerikanischen Justizministeriums als politisch motiviert zurück, weil er sich geweigert habe, die Zinsen zu senken. Trump hatte das vehement gefordert, um den Republikanern einen Vorteil bei den Zwischenwahlen im Herbst zu verschaffen.Wer kann Trump bremsen? Funktionieren die USA noch als Rechtsstaat? Die Trump-Regierung startet aggressiv ins neue Jahr: Venezuelas Diktator Nicolás Maduro wurde bei einem Militäreinsatz in der Hauptstadt Caracas festgesetzt und der US-Präsident erhebt nun Anspruch darauf, das Land zu führen – oder zumindest das Öl dort fördern zu dürfen. Helen Keller, Rechtsprofessorin an der Uni Zürich und Kennerin der internationalen Justiz, schätzt den Schritt ein. · Es wird mehr Organspenden geben – das war ein vielgehörtes Argument vor der Abstimmung über die sogenannte Widerspruchslösung im Jahr 2022. Bis Jahresende will Pakistan die Flüchtlinge abschieben. In Afghanistan erwarten sie Armut, Hunger und die radikal-islamistischen Taliban. Mehrafzon Jalili hatte grosse Träume. In Afghanistan studierte die 24-jährige Zahnmedizin. Dann kamen die Taliban, ihr Vater wurde ermordet, die Rest-Familie floh ins Nachbarland Pakistan. Gut vier Jahre später steht wieder alles auf der Kippe. Erst setzten sie die pakistanischen Vermieter auf die Strasse. Dann wurde auch ihr Not-Lager in einem Park in Islamabad mitten in der Nacht von der Polizei gestürmt. Pakistan will bis Jahres-Ende alle afghanischen Flüchtlinge ausschaffen. Darunter auch solche, die vor der Machtübernahme der Taliban für westliche Regierungen oder das Militär gearbeitet haben. In Afghanistan drohen ihnen Folter und Tod. Frauen wie Mehrafzon Jalili dürfen unter den Taliban nicht studieren, nicht arbeiten, nicht einmal singen. «Afghanistan ist wie ein Friedhof geworden», sagt Jalili. Pakistan - politisch instabil, hochverschuldet und vom Militär dominiert - gibt den afghanischen Flüchtlingen pauschal eine Mitschuld an den vielen Terroranschlägen in Pakistan - und bestraft sie.
