My guest today is Natalia Cohen. In 2016, with absolutely no rowing experience, Natalia was part of the first all-female team to row unsupported across the Pacific Ocean - the epic journey spotlighted in the very special documentary Losing Sight of Shore which is now on Amazon Prime! That's 9,000 miles from San Francisco to Cairns in a 29ft ocean rowing boat for over 250 days! The expedition was not only a challenge of extreme conditions and perseverance but also a journey of mental resilience and exploration of human endeavour. Natalia's vision is to empower others to reach their potential, push through their self-limiting mental boundaries and meet and overcome the challenges that life throws at them. This is a must-listen episode for so many reasons!
On this episode of the active CEO Podcast, Craig Johns speaks with Natalia Cohen, who is an incredibly resilient, tenacious, ground-breaking and pioneering lady, who has defined logic by purposefully losing sight of shore. When most people reach their mid-life crisis point, they decide to run a marathon, do a triathlon or visit a new country, not this young lady, she decided to row across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Cairns with 3 (plus 2 who would join later in the adventure) other people she did not know. Yes you heard that right! That's 257 days or 9 months at sea, covering 8759 nautical miles with a stopover at Honolulu, Hawaii and Apia, Samoa.
As we near the end of 2018, I put together a powerful compilation of some of the best advice from the guests on The Same 24 Hours Podcast. *Listener Warning* In this episode, you will hear treasures and snippets from the amazing Tony Hawk (Episode 88), Dr. Shefali (35), Laila Ali (73), Melissa Hartwig (68), Dr. Aviva Romm (39), Lizzie Velasquez (65), Lauren Zander (22), David Leite (17), the Pease Brothers (4, 26), Chrissie Wellington (60), Jeff Galloway (18), Mike Reilly (46), Randy Spelling (53), James Lawrence (57), Anthony Malone (40), Jason Jaksetic (50), Annie Grace (29), Brian MacKenzie (89), Natalia Cohen (27), Kyle Maynard (82) and Shay Eskew (77) (and more!). Can plays improve the world? We ask playwright James Graham and journalist Helen Lewis. Then we meet Natalia Cohen, who rowed across the Pacific Ocean in a little boat called Doris. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Natalia Cohen is a member of the Coxless Crew, the first fours boat (and all-female team) to row, unsupported, across the Pacific Ocean (the largest ocean in the world). The journey, which took 257 days at sea, is documented in the film "Losing Sight of Shore" (available on Netflix). In this conversation, we discuss why she decided to apply (despite not having any rowing experience), her interesting struggle with the Imposter Complex now that the journey has been completed, how she used mindfulness to get through the tough times, how the sharks that kept them company on the journey were a highlight and why it’s important not to be afraid of the unknown and instead to embrace it.
Grit, rowing, and 8,000 miles. Four women set out to row across the Pacific Ocean, from America to Australia. As they row over 8,000 miles during their nine months at sea, they must overcome extreme mental and physical challenges to make history. "Everyone has a Pacific to Cross." Natalia Cohen is a writer, coach and motivational speaker and one of the women on the "Coxless Crew" who achieved the incredible feat and journey of this amazing row from America to Australia. The documentary, "Losing Sight of Shore" is a breath-taking account of the journey. One of the favorites on the Same 24 Hours Podcast - talking about "Fernando the Shark" and "Eduardo the Shark", rowing naked, and why the ocean really is the greatest resource and wonder we have. Maryalice & Julia get the inside scoop on the new documentary, "Losing Sight of Shore," which follows six ambitious women in their record-setting journey across the Pacific Ocean. They speak to director Sarah Moshman and Natalia Cohen, one of the women who put her life on hold for the more than 8,000 mile test of mental and physical strength. We recommend catching the film on Netflix with the guilty-pleasure takeout of your choice! The ladies also discuss the woes of Uber, parental leave policy, and the surprising number of American adults who believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
