(3:25) • I can't just go and have a normal job. I need the biggest challenge in order to be fulfilled. What's the hardest thing I could do? And I became obsessed with hell week. I almost wanted to do hell week more than be a SEAL (16:55) • I told everyone I wanted to be a SEAL, and then, a year and a half later, 9-11 happened and it just reaffirmed it 100-fold. (70:07) • I was having major [back] issues. Even trying to do basic workouts it would pop and go out on me. I went to Columbia to the bio accelerator, and they did stem cells in my spine. I'm like a new person after that. (74:40) • I swam Alcatraz, and swam it in one of my Sungas. That was the coldest swim I've done. (94:55) • I'm a board member for the Adaptive Training Foundation in Dallas, helping with athletes. After 9 weeks of training - spiritual, mental, physical. Literally, they perform miracles there. They've been 20-30 years and haven't walked, and at the end of 9 weeks they're walking. (97:06) • I never felt so much love and gratitude for everyone who's been in my life. Of all the people I could've been born to and I was born to my mom. All the siblings I could've had, and I had my sister and my brother. It was hard to think of my dad and brother without being sad because I miss them so much, but it made be so unbelievably grateful for the time I had with them. (102:10)

Kyle Maynard had a dream to be a professional athlete. Born with a condition called congenital amputation that left him without arms or legs, he never stopped pursuing his dream. He became a champion wrestler at State level, an MMA fighter, opened his CrossFit gym, and climbed some of the world's tallest mountains including Killamanjaro, becoming the first quadruple amputee to do it without assistance. This is a fantastic show about an inspirational guy who is challenging the excuses we tell ourselves. SHOW NOTES When people ask Kyle what he does, how does he like to reply? Bruce Lee - it's not the daily increase but the daily decrease, hack away the nonessentials. What is it about the Comanche people and even his Mum's ancestors the Cherokee people that fascinate him? Kyle would horse ride at his Uncle Matt's in Michigan. How has he adapted to communicate with the horse? His family taught him to never quit in the middle of a task once he starts. Lewis Howes is great. He has achieved Olympic level successful in many areas of his life and today with the launch of his brand new book, The School of Greatness, he adds Bestselling Author to the list. On this episode, I ask Lewis what it takes to be great. Without hesitation, Lewis says that it all starts with a vision. You have to visualize what it is you really want. You have to dream it. Lewis says that before you can achieve greatness and success you have to understand what greatness and success looks like for you. Take a notepad and a pen, go out into nature, lay there in silence and write down what your perfect day would look like. Lewis says that everyone faces some type adversity in their life, but the ones who achieve greatness figure out a way to use the adversity to their advantage.
