Co-Host Lauren Zander (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/lauren) My returning guest, life coach Lauren Zander, is a self-described truth teller, who according to her website 'upholds a take-no-prisoners brand of radical personal accountability'. So is it any surprise she's on a personal crusade to inform the world about the seven ways people lie? Seven may be a lucky number, but not in this case...as Lauren boldly believes nobody should EVER lie, not even those 'little white lies' most of us see as socially acceptable, if not socially necessary. She observes that most of us KNOW when we're being lied to, even if we only sense it without being able to put of finger on exactly how. Lauren also wouldn't fall for the old PUA question of, 'Who lies more, men or women?' as she firmly believes ALL of us lie, whoever we are. Therefore, her list is not gender specific. So first off, why ARE social lies allegedly designed to keep conversation light and friendly really a bad thing? Next comes my theory on how there are two kinds of people when is comes to the issue of social truth...and Lauren surprises me with her opinion in response. We then expose how people with a lot of money lie, as well as people who are going through a rough patch. Then, there are the infamous errors of omission vs. commision. What about what Malcolm Gladwell refers to as the human being's 'default toward truth'? How does that enter into it? Why are brown-nosers such liars? And on the same note, here's objective proof why women roll their eyes at 'Mr. Nice Guy'. What does the infamous 'Imposter Syndrome' have to do with all of this? And finally, what's the practical application to all this? Should we simply NEVER lie to ANYONE, EVER? “What do you think will happen first, world peace or the end of lying?”Lauren Zander, CEO and founder of The Handel Group, was a life coach long before being a life coach was a “thing”. Forget the clichés; Lauren's trademarked coaching technique, the Handel Method, isn't about hand-holding—it's about getting sh*t done. She's taught it at prestigious institutions like MIT and Stanford Business School and counts celebrities, CEOs, and entrepreneurs among her clients. In this episode, Lauren takes the wheel as your personal life coach to expose the truths we're afraid to confront. First stop: our culture, which, let's be real, thrives on lying. But Lauren's on a mission to change that. She'll lay out why we're all so prone to being “pleasey” (especially women!), the role behavioral epigenetics plays in our life choices, and how self-sacrifice leaves us high and dry. We also discuss:Lauren's journey from being an environmental studies graduate to becoming a life-coaching guruBehavioral epigenetics and why knowing your family history is like holding the treasure map to your futureWhy we're trained to lie, and how it holds us back, making us feel like we're impostersUnmasking the origin of people-pleasing, the invisible puppeteer that hijacks our desiresThe concept of parallel relationships—you don't have to agree and overlap on everythingLauren dissects the three main voices in our heads: the chicken (fear), the brat (self-sabotage), and the weather reporter (judgment and commentary). Learn how to master these voices, drop the excuses, and step into authenticityWhy doing what we know will get results feels like trying to move mountains and why big achievements aren't microwaveableThe power of transparency and authenticity in coaching. If you enjoy this episode, consider buying me a coffee to show your support! ☕️Today on the show we have Lauren Zander, life coach and author of the book “Maybe it's You” - offering a step-by-step process that has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of her clients. Following a realisation that she'd been living a life full of lies, she decided to “clean up her life” and tell the truth. The result was a lifelong successful career in life coaching and writing. She was in the first vanguard of life coaches, a newly emerging industry, and counts the well known life coach Mel Robbins as one of her early clients. She's also the coach of Hugh Jackman, the actor in Wolverine and Greatest Showman, who has cited her practice as a “slap taken” - a dose of reality and motivation when preparing for the Greatest Showman. We talk about why people are so afraid to commit fully to their projects, why lying makes our lives so unenjoyable, and why she doesn't care that coaching isn't an industry for everyone. If you enjoy this episode, consider buying me a coffee to show your support! ☕️ Your support shows us it's worth continuing! This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens. Our emotional health impacts our physical health, there is no way around it. Traumas and toxic beliefs are scary to unpack but when you do, you give yourself the freedom and opportunity for dynamic growth. In this episode, Dr. Hyman is joined by Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Daniel Amen, Byron Katie, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, and Lauren Zander. They explore how focusing on your emotional health as much as your physical health will have big payoffs for your wellness and happiness throughout life. Since 2010, Dr. Joe Dispenza has partnered with scientists and universities to perform extensive research on the effects that meditation has on the brain and body. During his advanced retreats around the world, his team has gathered more than 8,000 brain scans and 4,000 heart-rate variability measurements in an attempt to correlate the effects that sustained elevated emotions and self-regulation have on heart and brain function, immune response, and overall mind-body health. The Washington Post called Dr. Daniel Amen the most popular psychiatrist in America and Discover Magazine listed his brain imaging research as the top neuroscience story for 2015. He is a double board-certified psychiatrist and ten-time New York Times bestselling author. Byron Katie's simple yet powerful process of self-inquiry, which she calls The Work, consists of four questions and the turnaround, which is a way of experiencing the opposite of what you believe. Her books include the bestselling Loving What Is, I Need Your Love—Is That True?, A Thousand Names for Joy, and A Mind at Home with Itself. Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is regarded as one of the most influential medical doctors in the UK and wants to change how medicine will be practiced for years to come. His mission is to help 100 million people around the globe live better lives. He hosts the most listened to health podcast in the UK and Europe, Feel Better, Live More—which regularly tops the Apple Podcast charts and is listened to by over 2 million people every single month. What is good friends! I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July here in the US. My next guest is a firecracker, speaking of the 4th of July! Please welcome Marnie Nir. Humor, compassion, and candor are the driving forces in Marnie Nir's work as Chief Creative Officer and Expert Coach with Handel Group. She finally returned from Florida (a period in her life she likes to refer to as “witness protection”) to her home state of New York, but has shuffled around from New York to California and back again throughout her life. Marnie's professional and personal life have come full-circle as well. A student of Slavic Language and Literature at UCLA, Marnie graduated with a BA and an understanding of Russian Literature as “purification through suffering”. Years later, after several jobs in publicity and production, most notably for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle live tour (can't make this stuff up), she began to see that, at least in her own life, suffering was not mandatory. After marrying and giving birth to her first child, Marnie started coaching with her sister, Lauren Zander, creating the dream of who she wanted to be as not-her-mother. However, her work with Lauren took everything in her life to a much deeper level. More than a decade later, she is now an empty nester of two, co-author with Lauren Zander of Maybe It's You, Chief Creative Officer and an Expert Coach in The Handel Method. She has also continued her creative work, namely as co-creator of the animated series Mother Up!, which aired 13 episodes on Hulu and starred Eva Longoria, serving as an expert at Campowerment, blogging for the Huffington Post, as well as writing her own blog (The Sour MILF). As with every area of her life, Marnie's coaching is characterized by joyful honesty. She brings lightness and levity to her work. “I have zero problem telling on myself. I use my jerk to help others see their own.” Consequently, she is continually inspired by the difference that telling the truth offers to her clients. For Marnie, it's about building the muscle of Personal Integrity, where what comes out of your mouth is what shall be. “In this way, you can really go from ‘I will go to the gym,' to ‘I will win an Emmy. And not just say it, but believe it, and cause it.” Having been married for more than 25 years, Marnie particularly enjoys working with wives, mothers, and singles, because she is well-acquainted with the challenges they face and speaks b*#ch, martyr, and chicken fluently. She lives in Pound Ridge, NY with her husband and Facetimes often with her 2 children. Are you bullshiting yourself? Did you give yourself permission to want what you REALLY want, or do you want what society says you should? How can you be a more effective participant in this life experience you were given? In this episode of the Align Podcast, Lauren and I chat about the important relationships we have in our lives, such as with our intimate partner, with our friends, with our family members, and most importantly, the relationship we have with ourselves. In fact, when we start thinking about our aspirations and what our dreams are, most of us bullshit ourselves. While society has been working very hard to make us want things that don’t align with what we TRULY want for ourselves, we shouldn’t beat ourselves over it. As long as we take the time to learn more about ourselves and figure out what we truly want, we can still experience the lives we were given the way we want to live. Plus, Lauren talks about how horrified we humans are about the ways that we act and the lies that we tell. In fact, if we were to ask someone right now to write down a list of all the lies that they ever told, they would be too ashamed to do so. Except in the case where abuse and trauma come into play, most of us feel ashamed because we deserved it. So why do we lie to start with, but most importantly, why can’t we admit to our wrongdoings? Lauren Zander is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Handel Group®, an international corporate consulting and life coaching company. Her coaching methodology, The Handel Method®, is taught around the world. She has spent nearly 20 years coaching thousands of private and corporate clients, including executives at Vogue, BASF, and AOL. Lauren Zander is determined to help us get exactly what we want out of life. She is the best-selling author of, "Maybe It's You. Cut The Crap. Face Your Fears. Love Your Life." Lauren works with professors, politicians, artists, Fortune 500 CEO's and celebrities to help them create real actionable change and achieve more. Lauren's straight-up style of coaching helps us face what's holding us back from true happiness, and most importantly, to own it. We dive deep into Lauren's no-bullshit style of coaching, discussing the most common problems people come to her with, and why lying is the worst thing you can do to yourself. What's the most significant modern-day challenge Lauren's clients face each day? Lauren's tweet "To have true love, you have to tell the TRUTH." Why? People think the puppet show in their head is right. Lauren describes the puppet show and how we can audit our narrative? Lauren carries the lineage of being betrayed in business. Why does Lauren still carry that story? Are 'treading on eggshells' conversations sending the wrong message to children of the future? What has Lauren gotten wrong with her coaching, and what was the lesson? Lauren talks about an area of her life where she still doubts herself. Does Lauren believe in being a generalist or a specialist? "I wish I was” what's the psychology behind this statement? ACDC wrote that there is a Highway to Hell - is there always a road out of hell? How do I know I like myself? In this show, Carol interviews Lauren Zander, co-founder and chairwoman, Handel Group. You will discover some effective ways of dealing with your inner conflicts – and be the BEST version of yourself. This show starts off with Lauren sharing her background information. Like most of us, Laura also struggled to discover her passion. Why did Lauren pivot towards self-help in spite of having a dream job with UNICEF? Next, Lauren provides a “peek” into her Handel method – and reveals how you can hold yourself accountable to your dreams. How can you initiate effective inner dialogue to drive transformational change? Lauren reveals that a dash of humor can help you immensely. Lauren shares some bittersweet memories of her childhood, and reveals how, influenced by her mother, she also grew up to be emotionally distant. What steps is Lauren taking to transform her mother? And, have they been able to mend fences? This section of the show will be really interesting to those who have been dealing with unresolved issues with their parents. Finally, towards the end, we transition to parenting. Lauren shares her radical approach to parenting – and points out the downsides of being too controlling as a parent. In the spirit of switching things up, I thought it would be fun to turn the tables and unpack some of my coaching experience with Lauren Zander. Lauren was on the show back on episode 069 to talk about her book Maybe It's You, and today she is back to help unpack a little bit about the coaching process and what doing the work really means. Before this interview I had a coaching session with Lauren and let me tell you... it was no joke. It was rather enlightening actually and I learned A LOT about myself, my life up until now, and some things I had no idea were operating in the background. It all started with the HW I did for the session. I was super intimidated at first when her assistant let me know that it would take about 8 hours to complete... 31 pages later, I not only realized a ton about my life, but I actually realized I really like writing. Today we are going to unpack some of our session together, what I discovered working with Lauren, the power of integrity, unraveling what haunts us and so much more. In this episode you'll learn Why we tend to pick coaches that are the opposite frequency of what we need The real work that's required with an iron clad system of coaching Some of the investigation that's required to uncover the truth about your personal history and contributing factors What hauntings are and how to start unraveling them How a swift kick in the ass was exactly what I needed but up until now was avoiding The difference between what you get out of a book and what can happen when you work with a coach The importance of metrics and measurements in defining a successful day and MORE…
Today we continue our conversation with Lauren Zander, founder of The Handel Method®, which is taught in over 35 universities and institutes of learning around the world, including MIT, Stanford Graduate School of Business, NYU, and the New York City Public School System. Lauren explains how personal Integrity is the secret sauce to achieving your dreams, finding happiness, confidence & self-esteem. Many of us may think we are living in integrity, but we are actually not! We go over how to set up promises and consequences to build self-trust and personal integrity. Lauren explains the many ways in which we all trained to lie, and how to start telling the truth now in order to improve your life and inner landscape. Lauren also shares with us how her no-nonsense methodology is especially applicable to those of us who love yoga and meditation. Don't miss this powerful episode, which builds on many of the ideas in Tuesday's episode. In today's episode, Lauren Zandel shares with us her powerful coaching methodology, The Handel Method®, which is taught in over 35 universities and institutes of learning around the world, including MIT, Stanford Graduate School of Business, NYU, and the New York City Public School System. According to Lauren, if you're unhappy with aspects of your life right now, it's your own fault! This takeaway: "maybe it's you" is good news. If you're the common denominator of everything that isn't working in your life, YOU can do something about it. If it's the economy's fault, your boss's fault, your metabolism's fault, there's nothing you can do about any of it. Lauren teaches us how to dream big, examine our inner dialogue, and make promises and consequences that get us into action around our goals. You do not want to miss her no-nonsense approach to building a life you love.
