So it looks like the highly controversial trade agreement hammered out in July between Trump and Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen may be toast. The European Parliament won't vote to approve it now that Trump has threatened additional tariffs on 8 European nations for not supporting his bid to annex Greenland. Expect the markets in Europe to be all over the shop this week in response. But maybe Europe might also finally stop its appeasement of Trump this week by triggering the Anti Coercion Instrument.Michael OSullivan, director of UNIO wealth managers and author of the book “The Levelling“ and who is giving a lecture later today in UCC about this very topic joined Joe Lynam on the show to discuss.
The programme for a CrossFit affiliate's group class programme versus a CrossFit competitor is obviously going to look different, but does this mean the process for writing the programme has to be any different? We have spoken a lot on this podcast about the importance of templates, how to structure them and why this is how you should start a programme for a CrossFit competitor, and we have all written programming for a CrossFit affiliate in a similar way. However, there is still a large portion of affiliate programming that uses a very zoomed out method. This might work for balancing things like modalities and time domains, but it does so without any inherent structure to the training week. In this episode we talk about where to start when writing a template for a CrossFit affiliate, and how to programme for those who attend every day versus those who attend randomly. Ben Schwencke, chief psychologist at Test Partnership, a psychometric assessment and pre-employment testing service provider in the UK, joined the FM podcast to discuss common recruitment challenges facing employers, what psychometric testing entails and how it's implemented, and the use of artificial intelligence in recruitment practices. In an earlier FM episode, an expert discussed how businesses are eager to embark on AI initiatives despite remaining wary of its pitfalls. What you'll learn from this episode: Why an assessment of recruitment challenges in a business depends on who you talk to in the organisation. An explanation of psychometric testing and common concerns companies may have in using such testing. Why Schwencke considers it beneficial for job candidates to be allowed to take a practice test version of a psychometric assessment. The “two sides” to the use of AI in the recruitment process. Why recruitment methods should include tools that both incorporate AI and are resistant to it, according to Schwencke.

In this episode, I sit down with the deadly Elijah McDonald – a proud a Noongar|Yamatji|Pitta-Pitta man from WA– who’s part of the team behind Blaktasia: Invasion of the Merk, Australia’s first-ever Aboriginal-led mobile game. I caught up with Elijah fresh from Yabun Festival on Gadigal Country, where he and his team were showcasing Blaktasia and spreading the word about this groundbreaking project. Made by mob, for mob, this game isn’t just about fantasy and fun – it’s about reconnecting with Country, fighting back the darkness with mulga magic, and seeing our stories and faces represented in digital spaces. We yarn about Elijah’s journey from playing games with his dad to studying Game Art and Design at TAFE, and how he landed a role at Guck – a majority Blak-owned company making big waves in the gaming world. This was such a refreshing convo – I’ve never had a game developer on the podcast before, and Elijah is leading the way for young First Nations creatives in the tech space. If you’re a young fulla dreaming of a future in gaming, design or digital storytelling – or just curious about how culture and coding can come together – this one’s for you. And the best part? Blaktasia is 100% free – no ads, no microtransactions. Just pure Blak brilliance.

With her debut feature documentary film Queens of Concrete, Eliza Cox takes audiences on a seven year journey with three skateboarders: Ava Godfrey, Charlotte Heath, and Hayley Wilson. They each embrace a different style of skateboarding, with street and park being the two styles that are featured at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. It's that 2020 Olympics that the girls have their sights set on, with Eliza following their journey from the skateparks of Melbourne to the sponsored events in London and LA, to boarding schools dedicated to bringing up the next generation of skaters. There's an inherent drama to skateboarding - you never know if the skater is going to fall, what they're going to pull off, and how they're going to take a risky jump - and that's paired well with the inherent drama of being a teenager turning into an adult. Or, in the case of Charlotte, a kid turning into a teenager. Each of the girls has their own life journey to follow, and Eliza's dedicated observational lens follows them in a caring and considered manner. This is not a director simply documenting the lives of their subjects, but supporting their journey in an empathetic manner.Queens of Concrete moves in the same vein as the great skating docos of the turn of the millennium, with Eliza noting the impact that Dogtown and Z-Boys had on her work. As a viewer, I couldn't help but feel the pull of Eddie Martin's excellent All This Mayhem, a film which also hails from the streets of Melbourne. Either way, the impact of sports documentaries is a strong one on Eliza's creative vision.I caught up with Eliza ahead of the AIDC panel Levelling the Playing Field: Celebrating Trailblazers in Sports Docs, where she joins fellow documentarians Frances Elliott, who co-directed Renee Gracie: Fireproof, and Marlee Silva, of the upcoming film Skin in the Game. In the following interview, we talk about her journey into filmmaking, what it means to be a supportive director, the choice behind making a sports film about girls or a film about girls who skate, and a lot more.If you're in Naarm-Melbourne this weekend, then make yourself known and head along to ACMI on Monday 3 March where you can catch Levelling the Playing Field, alongside a stack more great panels and events at the Australian International Documentary Conference. Fear of judgment, the weight of new responsibilities, or even self-doubt often bubble up during times of growth. It's easy to convince yourself that staying small is the safer option, but that's just the rubber band of comfort snapping back. By embracing what's hard and staying in the moment, you start to see that the fear of failure or being “not enough” doesn't hold the power you think it does. Growth isn't about being perfect; it's about being willing to show up, flaws and all. Making space for the next level starts with shifting your perspective. Focus on possibilities, celebrate progress, and make intentional decisions. There's a freedom in owning what you're not great at and leaning into your strengths instead. With practical insights and an exercise to help you anchor your decisions, this episode is your guide to moving forward with clarity, confidence, and a mindset ready for expansion.
