He is the brother of Tori Spelling and the son of Candy and Aaron Spelling. In 1995 when Spelling was 17 years old, he played the role of Flipper Gage in the teen-oriented drama Malibu Shores, which was produced by his father.[2] Spelling said he took the role because the characterization was completely different from himself.[3] He also carried out a guest role on the popular series Beverly Hills 90210 alongside his sister Tori Spelling. Spelling was later cast as Sean Richards in Sunset Beach, again produced by his father. In 2007, Spelling took part in his own reality television series, Sons of Hollywood, which aired on the A&E Network. He starred alongside Sean Stewart and David Weintraub. Randy Spelling's bio right from his own website... I've had to reverse engineer my life (a powerful strategy that will help you achieve your deepest desires from life). I was born in Los Angeles, CA to one of the most well known Hollywood families in the entertainment business. I had money, celebrity, and success. And then…what else? There was more, always more. But I was unaware of how to fill this void. And believe me, I tried to fill it with every external thing imaginable (more on that in my book!). It felt like there was some mysterious element that was missing. I wanted to be fulfilled, not live by the expectations of others. Society's definitions of success and happiness were fine, except they didn't leave me feeling successful or happy. I struggled to find my way, crawling through low self-esteem and not knowing my deeper purpose. After my father's death and some near death experiences of my own, at age 27, I set out on a mission to “find” myself and understand what it takes to reach real happiness, how to transform low self-esteem, minimize anxiety and overwhelm, and what leads to a truly fulfilled, connected life. Welcome to this week's episode of the StephUp Podcast! Thank you for your support and for coming back each week to listen. This episode features special guest Randy Spelling. Randy is an author, credentialed life coach, and a passionate practitioner of change and result. Today Randy talks to us about getting clear on our boundaries and communicating them to others with confidence. Steph and Randy begin their conversation by talking about how they often both compare themselves to other people. Randy is not only a life coach to others, but also to Steph! When she first met him, she was nervous of course, since she used to watch him on TV, but soon realized how kind and down to earth he was. There was no reason to compare herself or feel nervous! Randy often feels the same way Steph does, but towards other celebrities or experts. The one thing he has learned through his work though, is that everyone has problems. We all struggle on some level with something, and no one has a perfect life. We are all more alike than different.Steph and Randy also talk about boundaries, which is one of Steph's favorite topics. Most people have an idea of what boundaries are but don't always think they are good at respecting them, good at setting them (and wonder what others may think of them if they do), or don't feel like they have any at all. Randy says that setting boundaries is one of the most loving things we can do for ourselves. When you learn to speak up when a boundary has been crossed, you let others know how they make you feel, which gives them the opportunity to change. It's important to remember that other people can't read your mind and may not know when they've crossed one of your boundaries. They will only know if you communicate with them. If you are someone who struggles to communicate how you feel, being assertive about your boundaries may come across as mean or bitchy. In the beginning, give yourself grace to be a bit clumsy and over time, you will learn how to better communicate how you feel. The more you practice, the better you get. When you are dealing with people who are manipulative and have no respect for boundaries, Randy suggests that we not “take the bait”. Don't let someone make you feel guilty for asserting yourself. Make your boundaries very clear, as well as the consequences for breaking them.Randy goes on to talk about how setting boundaries is another form of self-love, a way of advocating for yourself. Most of us view boundaries as the way we come off to others, such as how we look or sound. But learning to look at boundaries as a way of advocating for ourselves and then communicating that to others is one of the biggest hurdles we can overcome.“Setting boundaries is a form of self-love”Steph and Randy finish their conversation by discussing whether boundaries can have cultural differences and similarities, which they can. Randy Spelling grew up in the entertainment industry as the son of, Aaron Spelling, one of the most prolific Hollywood producers in history. Up until his mid twenties, Randy acted in various hit primetime television shows such as Beverly Hills 90210, Malibu Shores, and Charmed. He starred in a daytime soap opera for four years called Sunset Beach and was featured in several feature films.This contributed to Randy earning a dedicated global following.In 2006, amidst a struggle with addiction and feeling lost, Randy went through a process of getting sober that led him to go within and find his purpose. Success and notoriety had not brought the deeper satisfaction Randy was desperately seeking. With near-fatal outcomes, he made a choice to do the hard work of getting clean and started on a serious spiritual quest to find meaning in his life. While on the journey, he reconnected with his latent intuitive talents as well as his ability to listen deeply to the hearts of others, both of which turned out to be an excellent fit for the career of life coaching. Randy entered a two-year, credentialed coaching program to become an International Coaching Federation Certified Life Coach. Randy is a life coach, spiritual facilitator, author, and speaker, with his own life coaching and wellness company, Being in Flow. He provides one-on- one coaching with an emphasis on helping clients discover how to improve their lives and live free of limitations. Randy frequently holds workshops and face-to-face consultations in his hometown, Los Angeles, and other cities across the country.
