The Read with Carylee Show brings the love of literature to children and gives a peek behind the scenes by evoking the joy of reading, helping children interact with authors, and displaying the hidden talent of these authors who may be living in your community.  This episode will read Boss Women: 7 African Women Who Built Their Businesses From The Ground Up with Gwen Richardson. ✅ ABOUT THE STORY: Boss Women features seven African-American women who started their businesses by themselves or as co-founders with family members. Although some of these women may not have high public profiles, they represent a variety of industries, and all of their businesses are successful.    Their stories will encourage you never to give up and go for your dreams. Discover how they started and how they have reached the top. Meet Janice M. Adams (JMA Solutions), Valerie Daniels-Carter (V&J Holding Companies), Bea Dixon (Honey Pot), Janice Bryant Howroyd (The ACT One Group), Garnetta Sanders (Neta Scientific), Janell Stephens (Camille Rose Naturals), and J.C. Sykes (90 Degree Construction).   Boss Women uses poetic phrasing to make it easier for children to read and understand. While reading each poetic profile, children will see themselves in these women's successes and dream big dreams for the future. The book is also a motivational tool for adults who are seeking encouragement on their entrepreneurial journeys.   ✅ ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Gwen Richardson has never collected a paycheck in the past 35 years. Going into entrepreneurship inspired by her dad, a pastor, she tells the tale of the trials of starting a business and the rewards of working for oneself.  She has written four books educating children to seek entrepreneurship as a career path. "My heart is to teach children that they can be entrepreneurs and go into business for themselves. There's just nothing about women and black women in business that children can relate to. I didn't want to focus on Oprah or Cathy Hughes, which most people know or the women who had already passed on, because I wanted the women to be relatable. I also wanted to have different industries and generations represented." Two of Gwen's books have been nominated for NAACP Image Awards: 101 Scholarship Applications: What It Takes to Obtain a Debt-Free College Education in 2015, and You Are Wonderfully Made: 12 Life-Changing Principles for Teen Girls to Embrace in 2016. The latter was a book she co-authored with her daughter, Sylvia, who is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, an HBCU. As a publicist, Gwen provides a wide range of marketing services, primarily for clients within the book industry. She co-owns Cushcity.com with her husband, Willie. Cushcity.com provides retail and literary marketing services within the African-American market.   Gwen is co-founder and national coordinator of the National Black Book Festival. This annual event, held in Houston, Texas, attracts over 100 African-American authors from across the U.S. and celebrates its 13th anniversary in October 2020.   Connect with Gwen Richardson Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bosswomenthebook Website: GwenRichardson.com Email:  gwenrichardson123@gmail.com Don't forget to show our author some love by getting Boss Women on Amazon or BossWomenTheBook.com
