What if the parent report card you've been grading yourself on this whole time was never actually yours to fill out? Episode summary bullets: Nicole Barlow, longtime foster and adoptive mom and one of our Cultivate Connection facilitators, shares how she went from feeling like a "rockstar" foster parent to realizing she was in way over her head. Why the peer-to-peer model at the heart of Cultivate Connection matters: none of us are exempt from putting these tools into practice in our own homes. The weight of being watched. Nicole opens up about neighbors, strangers, and offhand comments that shaped how she saw her own parenting. How Nicole's understanding of Scripture around obedience and discipline shifted over time (a perspective she shares from her own faith journey). Redefining success: from "my kids are compliant" to "does my adult child still call me, even from a hard place?" Why a compliant kid isn't always a regulated kid, and what Nicole wishes she'd noticed sooner in her own home. Dysregulation isn't disobedience: a look at fight, flight, freeze, and fawn, and why repair matters more than perfection. Nicole and Jesse's honest conversation about social media, comparison, and the images of parenting we quietly measure ourselves against. Nicole's closing encouragement for any parent white-knuckling their way through this season: "It's not yours to carry." Welcome back to Living Your Truth with Tavares.I'm your host, Tavares Garrett, and welcome to Season 11, Episode 11.Today's episode is deeply personal. It's about something I think many of us experience but rarely talk about. It's called...Reminding Yourself of You.Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought,"I don't even recognize myself anymore."Not because you've changed physically...But because somewhere along the journey...You lost pieces of yourself.Maybe life happened.Maybe trauma happened.Maybe parenthood.Maybe marriage.Maybe divorce.Maybe addiction.Maybe grief.Maybe success.Maybe failure.Maybe years of putting everyone else first.Whatever the reason...One day you woke up and realized...You've been surviving for so long...That you forgot who you are outside of survival.Today's episode is about coming home to yourself. It's about remembering your voice.Your values.Your purpose.Your joy.Your strength.Your identity.Because the world spends enough time telling you who you should become.Sometimes you need to stop...And remember who you've always been.Love Yourself, Love Each Other and Live Your Truth,LYTWT PodcastTavares A Garrett Links:https://linktr.ee/tavaresagarrettAmazon Books by TAG Publishinghttps://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B08778562HThe Body Synthesis Mind, Body, Nutrition, Results. HAPPY THURSDAY, STAY FOCUSED AND FINISH THIS WEEK STRONG. LOVE YOURSELF, GIVE YOURSELF GRACE. REMEMBER YOU ARE STILL GROWING.
Welcome back to Living Your Truth with Tavares.I'm your host, Tavares Garrett, and welcome to Season 11, Episode 10.Today's conversation is one that I believe every single person needs to hear. It's about two of the most powerful letters in the English language.N...O.No.Such a simple word.Yet for so many people, it's one of the hardest words to say. Why?Because saying no often comes with guilt.Fear.Anxiety.The fear of disappointing someone. The fear of rejection. The fear of conflict. The fear of being misunderstood. So instead of saying no...We overcommit. We overextend. We overexplain. We people-please.And eventually...We become exhausted trying to keep everyone else happy while quietly neglecting ourselves.Today's episode isn't about becoming selfish. It's about becoming intentional. It's about learning that every time you say yes to something...You're automatically saying no to something else.Your time.Your energy.Your peace.Your health.Your family.Your purpose. So today, let's talk about the power of saying no—and why it may be one of the healthiest decisions you ever learn to make.Love Yourself, Love Each Other and Live Your Truth,LYTWT PodcastTavares A Garrett Links:https://linktr.ee/tavaresagarrettAmazon Books by TAG Publishinghttps://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B08778562HThe Body Synthesis Mind, Body, Nutrition, Results. What does it truly mean to become unbroken? In this powerful episode of The MisFitNation, host Jake Holland sits down with author Adriene Caldwell for one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations ever featured on the show. Adriene's story is one of unimaginable hardship—and extraordinary resilience. After surviving childhood abuse, foster care, homelessness, addiction, family trauma, mental illness, and devastating personal loss, Adriene refused to let her past define her future. Instead, she rebuilt her life, broke the cycle of generational trauma, became a successful financial professional, raised an incredible daughter, and wrote her powerful memoir, Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines. Throughout this deeply personal interview, Adriene opens up about the darkest moments of her life while offering hope to anyone struggling with trauma, depression, grief, addiction, or the weight of their past. In this episode, you'll discover: • How childhood trauma shapes adulthood—and how healing begins • What surviving abuse and foster care taught her about resilience • Breaking generational cycles and becoming the parent she never had • Living with depression and chronic illness without losing hope • Why forgiveness is one of life's most difficult—and freeing—journeys • The surprising life lessons that came from a year living in Germany • Why Adrienne believes "Boring is Underrated" • How writing her memoir forced her to confront buried trauma • Advice for anyone afraid to tell their own story • Three simple principles for becoming a better human: Love Yourself. Be Honest. Be Kind. This conversation is more than an interview—it's a reminder that your past does not have to determine your future. Whether you're a survivor, a caregiver, a veteran, a first responder, or someone searching for hope, Adriene's story proves that healing is possible and resilience can be learned. If this episode speaks to you, please follow The MisFitNation, leave a review, and share it with someone who needs to hear this message today. Feeling bad is not a flaw in the human experience. It's an essential life skill for anyone who wants a life of love, growth, satisfaction, and intimacy— all of it requires the capacity to feel discomfort without running from it. In this episode, Michael and Matt make the case for feeling bad on purpose: when to sit with an emotion, when to change your mindset, and why emotional avoidance often costs us more than the original pain. We get into: Why feeling bad is a skill, not a personal failure The difference between allowing an emotion and reframing your thoughts How men are often taught to avoid, repress, intellectualize, or act out emotions The ways we numb and escape through food, alcohol, sex, porn, productivity, scrolling, and distraction Why building emotional capacity makes you braver, more honest, and more willing to live a bigger life The goal isn't to be happy all the time — it's to become someone who can feel bad without abandoning yourself or shrinking your future. Welcome back to Living Your Truth with Tavares.I'm your host, Tavares Garrett, and this is Season 11, Episode 9.Today's conversation is about one word that has the power to completely transform your life.Accountability.Now, let's be honest. Most people don't like accountability. Why?Because accountability requires something many people avoid:Ownership.Ownership of our choices.Ownership of our habits.Ownership of our attitudes.Ownership of our healing.Ownership of our future. And here's what I've learned over the years:The moment you stop blaming everyone else...is the moment your life begins to change.Accountability isn't about guilt. It isn't about shame. It isn't about beating yourself up.It's about looking in the mirror and saying:"This is where I am... and I have the power to influence where I go next."That is one of the most empowering realizations a person can have.Today we're going to explore what accountability really means, why so many people resist it, what science says about personal responsibility, and how accountability can become one of the greatest forms of freedom you'll ever experience.Love Yourself, Love Each Other and Live Your Truth,LYTWT PodcastTavares A Garrett Links:https://linktr.ee/tavaresagarrettAmazon Books by TAG Publishinghttps://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B08778562HThe Body Synthesis Mind, Body, Nutrition, Results. Send us Fan MailFocus: Self-acceptance, letting go. This episode is about seeking acceptance and understanding for all that is and finding the presence to move forward, one step at a time. It comes from a place of needing to let go of the things we may attach to our identity and tend to hang onto so tightly. Take a short time to treat yourself to some relaxation today.
Send us Fan MailFocus: grounding, relaxation. How do we balance accepting all that is while recognizing there are changes that need to be made to encourage healing? This episodes songs were written for people who had healing to do and found their way forward. Sit back, relax and let your brain work with the music while you tune in.
Send us Fan MailFocus: accepting what is. Why do we seek change? It can be hard to recognize the difference between changes that would be nice versus changes that are needed. Sometimes all we need is to simply accept the flaws and imperfections in our life. These songs were composed for guests on my other podcast "Miss Tweetie's Parents".
Something Lauren keeps noticing: when women go through a breakup, they find themselves again. They go back to the things they'd stopped doing — the hobby, the book, the version of themselves that got a little buried somewhere in the relationship. This episode is a guide for anyone who's newly out of something, mid-way back to themselves, or reflecting on how they've come back before and wondering if there's a little more work to do. Four steps, in order. What to come back to, what to build, what to protect, and what to remember so you don't lose it the same way twice.Stay connected here Connect with me on Instagram Please email me here: Lauren@ohyeahcoaching.comApply for coaching HEREWould You Date You? Thirty-eight years, eight months, one week, and six days. That's how long I've been married to my husband. You might think that after nearly four decades, we'd have this marriage thing down pat. That by now, the hard work would be behind us. That maybe we could just coast through the rest of our marriage with the wind on our faces, enjoying the view. But being married is like riding a bike. You can only coast for so long before losing your momentum and falling over. You've got to keep pedaling if you don't want to crash. One way I've kept peddling is by taking the challenge I'm sharing on the podcast this week. Maybe you'd like to join me? Listen in to here more about it. She dives into the making of High Road, blending country, Americana, and alternative influences into a gritty, emotionally-driven sound that's uniquely her own. The conversation also explores building a fanbase through social media, navigating the highs and lows of being an independent artist, and the importance of self-worth, community, and resilience. Have you ever wondered why you keep putting things off—even when you know better? Why you promise yourself you'll start tomorrow… and tomorrow keeps moving? In this episode of Love Yourself Thin, Dara Tomasson explores the deeper reason behind procrastination and the repeating patterns that show up in our lives—especially around food, productivity, and weight loss. If you've ever thought, "Why do I keep doing this?" or "Why can't I just follow through?" this conversation will help you understand what's really happening in your brain. The truth is, procrastination isn't laziness. It's a pattern your brain learned a long time ago. Many of the habits we struggle with today—emotional eating, perfectionism, people pleasing, procrastinating—were originally coping strategies we developed in childhood. They helped us deal with stress, pressure, or emotions when we didn't yet have the tools to process them. The problem is that those same patterns can continue running our adult lives automatically. Your brain isn't trying to improve your life—it's trying to keep things predictable. That's why traditional weight loss strategies often fail. They focus on controlling behavior instead of understanding the underlying patterns driving it. The good news? Your brain is capable of change at any age. Modern neuroscience shows that the brain constantly forms new neural pathways through repetition and awareness. This means the same process that created your old patterns can also help you create new ones. When you bring awareness to these patterns, the automatic cycle starts to break. This is why willpower alone rarely works. You can't out-discipline a pattern you don't understand. Instead of blaming yourself or trying harder, the real work is learning to look at the "wiring" behind your behaviors. When you start noticing your patterns with curiosity instead of shame, real change becomes possible. And that's where lasting weight loss begins—not with stricter rules, but with deeper awareness. If you've ever felt stuck in cycles of procrastination, emotional eating, or perfectionism, this episode will help you understand why—and show you that it's never too late to change. In this episode of The Anthony Thomas Podcast, we dive deep into breathwork, personal growth, and living with purpose with Jon Paul Crimi.
Focus: Connection to self; How can we find our flow when our lives often have so much structure we don't feel we have room for it? Just keep connecting to self - our busiest schedules can support flow if we know how to find ourself within these boundaries. Start with this meditation. Then in moments of tension, see if you can resurrect the body memory of your breathing and relaxation. With a little practice, it can take seconds to get back there.
A Prayer to Love Yourself with Nicolet Bell & Rachael Adams In this heartfelt February Friday conversation, Nicolet Bell and Rachael Adams to discuss a topic many Christian women quietly wrestle with: What does it truly mean to love yourself in a biblical way? As part of their ongoing series centered around Everyday Prayers for Love, this episode explores how receiving God’s love becomes the foundation for loving Him, loving others, and yes—even loving ourselves. Through personal stories, biblical truth, and practical encouragement, Rachel and Nicolette unpack the tension between cultural self-care messages and Christ-centered self-love. Reference: Mark 12:30-31 Prayer: Father, in a world full of self-hate, help my children to learn to see themselves the way that you see them-dearly beloved. When the marriage ends, the mirror that once reflected your worth often goes with it. I'll examine what happens when you've spent years using someone else to outsource your value so you can feel whole. I start by naming the cultural conditioning that tells women to be the supporting cast in everyone else's story. If your worth was tied to keeping the peace, divorce can feel like failure. I challenge that script and replace it with a foundational truth: your worth is inherent, not earned. From there, we share small, repeatable practices to shift your inner language helping you move from self-criticism to self-compassion with simple, real-life scripts you can say out loud. Think of it as strength training for your relationship with yourself: light reps, done daily, that add up to lasting change. You'll learn how to recognize validation loops, how to sit with uncomfortable truths without spiraling, and how to treat your future self like a trusted friend. I'll show you how to anchor to your own knowing when decisions feel heavy, and why compliments, new partners, or perfect co-parenting can be delightful but should never be the source of your value. If you're ready to stop waiting for someone else to tell you you're enough, press play. Subscribe for more tools each week, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a quick review because it helps other women find their way back to themselves. To download your FREE GUIDE: "7-Day Self Trust Reset" click here. In today's episode, we're diving into the truth about being hard on yourself and why it's not actually a personality trait. If you've ever labeled yourself as “just someone who's hard on myself,” this conversation will completely reframe what's really going on beneath the surface. We're unpacking the nervous system, the illusion of control, and how to finally break the spiral in a way that feels empowering and not just surface-level.In this episode, we cover:• Why being hard on yourself is a nervous system response and not who you are• The illusion of control and why self-blame can feel safer than uncertainty• How fight-or-flight shuts down creativity, intuition, and high performance• The identity shifts required to stop reinforcing the “I'm just like this” story• A simple 3-step tool to break the spiral in real timeThis episode is your reminder that you don't have to motivate yourself through criticism. Gay Men Going Deeper has never done an episode about a TV show before. There's a reason we did this one. Heated Rivalry isn't just popular. It landed at a very specific cultural moment for gay men, and the response to it points to something bigger than whether people liked the plot. In this off-the-cuff conversation, Michael and Matt explore why this story resonated so strongly, what emotional needs it taps into, and why certain depictions of gay love, sex, courage, and intimacy feel especially potent right now. This isn't a recap or a review. It's a conversation about why some stories carry more weight than others, and how paying attention to your reaction can become an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply. It's a question many gay men quietly carry… especially after heartbreak, disappointment, or years of trying. In this episode of Gay Men Going Deeper, we put on our coach hats and unpack why this belief takes hold, how shame and self-protection can block love without us realizing it, and what actually helps us become more open to connection again. This conversation isn't about forcing positivity or dating tactics. It's about understanding the patterns that keep us guarded, how we sabotage love unintentionally, and how to restore hope without lowering your standards or abandoning yourself. In this episode, we explore: Where the belief “I'll be single forever” comes from The most common blocks to love we see in gay men How shame quietly shapes dating and relationships The difference between protection and emotional availability How to let love in while staying grounded, discerning, and self-respecting If you want real connection but feel tired, guarded, or discouraged, this episode offers clarity, reassurance, and a grounded way forward. I wanted to close off this year with some positivity and maybe a kick in the butt. 2025 has been the hardest, most challenging, beautiful, insightful and needed year of my life. A lot of us are experiencing burnout, growth periods, feeling lost, isolated, unworthy in life, mental health struggles, grieving loved ones/past versions of ourselves, personal development, new chapters that feel scary and uncertain; and just - life. It's hard, it's all hard. For me, I fell into myself and imploded. But this time was different. Instead of doing it on my own, to crawl back out - I did it with aid and support. So if you're feeling lost or truly unwell - here are my 6 steps to getting your life BACK. I truly believe in these steps and in combination, they really saved my life. The last 3 months have been nothing short of amazing, difficult, gut wrenching, and life changing. I know I still have a lot of hard work to do. I think that's the whole point. Knowing the work is never really 'done'. But feeling the progress, seeing the results, and sitting back and saying, "Look at how far I've come". That's true growth. It's not boastful - it's truthful, it's honest, hard work. It's humble.***If you're experiencing thoughts of self harm please seek immediate help.*** And if you're listening in hopes of aiding a loved one who is struggling - you've come to the right place. Just know this is just a piece of it - professional help is the ultimate solution. We can't do this work on our own. Support your loved ones, hold them close. Ashley C. Ford returns to the pod today for a deeply personal, raw, and revelatory conversation about how we can love the world, our people, and ourselves through this trying moment. We explore: - Why we're no longer certain that “to be loved is to be known”; - Why we resent our people when they don't understand us—and how to find more love, peace, and acceptance in our relationships; - Abby's realization that she doesn't need to “fix” Glennon's sadness; sometimes partnership looks like staying steady while your person feels it all. For those of us who feel lost, afraid, or alone: Ashley's wisdom and clarity are exactly what we need. Snuggle in, open your minds and your hearts. We love you. Diet culture has a sneaky way of showing up everywhere. From weightloss plans disguised as “lifestyle changes” to wellness trends promising to heal everything from your skin to your soul. In this encore episode, I'm joined by Christy Harrison, MPH, RD—author of The Wellness Trap and Anti-Diet—to unpack how diet culture infiltrates the wellness world and impacts women's health in ways that are anything but healthy.Christy explains how the multi-billion-dollar wellness industry often sells us pseudoscience, dubious diagnoses, and rigid food rules that can lead to disordered eating and body-image struggles. We talk about why so many people—especially women—get caught in this cycle, how eating disorders aren't always obvious, and why scientific literacy is one of the most powerful tools for protecting your health. You will learn... Why diet culture's obsession with weight loss harms physical and mental healthHow wellness trends exploit fear to sell ineffective or harmful solutionsThe connection between restrictive eating, binge eating, and long-term health issuesWhy women are extra susceptible to falling into diet culture and wellness trendsHow social media and our political climate contributes to wellness mis- and dis-informationRemember: Your worth isn't measured by your weight, your diet, or how “well” you follow health trends. Real wellness is about freedom and self-compassion.Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, is a registered dietitian nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, and journalist who has been covering food, nutrition, and health for more than 20 years. She is the author of two books, The Wellness Trapand Anti-Diet, and host of the podcasts Rethinking Wellness and Food Psych. Christy's decades of work in journalism, nutrition, and intuitive eating have helped thousands break free from the false promises of diet culture and find a more compassionate, evidence-based approach to food and health. Whether you've struggled with dieting, fallen into the wellness trap, or simply want to support women's health in a more sustainable way, this conversation will help you see wellness culture in a whole new light.Get Christy's latest book: The Wellness Trap: Break Free from Diet Culture, Disinformation, and Dubious Diagnoses and Find Your True Well-BeingLearn more about Christy at christyharrison.com and follow her on Instagram @chr1styharrisonMentioned in This Episode: Fears About Food Additives, article by Christy Harrison Is Red Food Dye Dangerous? If you're enjoying this self-love podcast, share it with the women in your life to combat diet culture, promote body positivity, and spread self-love.
You can't truly love yourself if you're lying to yourself. And you certainly can't find peace in a version of you that's not real.Because when you try to love a version of yourself that isn't true, it feels empty. It's like people-pleasing: if you sacrifice authenticity for approval, then who are they really approving of? Not the real you. And the same goes for self-approval. If we dress up a lie and call it self-love, we're building a facade that will inevitably crumble. In this episode, you will learn…Why women, in particular, tend to lie to themselves (even more than they lie to others)What all major religions and spiritual teachings say about truth-telling3 simple but profound ways to use honesty as a daily practice of loving yourselfWe'll also explore ideas from authors like bell hooks, George Saunders, Don Miguel Ruiz, and Tara Brach, whose teachings remind us that honesty is the foundation of love.If you've ever felt like self-love doesn't “work” for you, or that you're doing everything but still feel disconnected, this episode might reveal why and inspire you to honestly love yourself.Remember: telling the truth isn't about sharing every secret, it's about staying rooted in what's real. And what's real—no matter how messy—is worthy of love.Deepen your self-love journey with Mary's books:The Gift of Self-Love, an interactive workbook that will help you build confidence, recognize your worth, and learn to finally love yourself.100 Days of Self-Love, a guided journal with 100 prompts to help you calm self-criticism and learn to love who you are.Follow Mary on IG: @maryscupofteaa and @maryspodcastIf you're enjoying this self-love podcast, share it with the women in your life.
