I once tried putting together an episode of all songs in alternative time signatures, but they're a little hard to find since most people don't choose titles for songs based on their time signature. I've had the same problem with finding songs which use a particular instrument. So, on that note, if you know of any good open licensed 5:4 or 7:8 songs or anything like that, please let me know.I40 - INTERSTATE (4:52)Learn to Fly (Instrumental Version) (3:24)East Side Bar (Instrumental) (3:15)Five Seconds (instrumental) (2:39)Spanish-ish (3:01)Major12 (2:45)Not A Thing To Be Grasped (1:17)That was I40 - INTERSTATE by Bane Djakovic, which is available from Jamendo. The power of the wild is an idea that has been important in western thought as a place of refuge or separation where we can feel the power of nature. It is a place where humans are not in control and their power is limited. Using nature as a category of power creates a dichotomy between humans and nature, which is problematic because humans are very much part of eco-systems in which we live. Is it then valid for historians to invoke models of power dynamics to study past interactions between humans and nature? This was one of the questions considered at a workshop held at Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire, England in April 2013. The participants of the workshop also examined if a nature reserve like Wicken Fen can be made wild again, a process called re-wilding. In episode 53 of this podcast series Dolly Jorgensen argued that no re-wilding is needed but that the wild is all around us, even in urban settings. In this episode of the podcast Paul Warde, reader in history at the University of East Anglia, argues that the experience of the wild is hard to find in an urban environment, even an urban park or in a nature reserve in densely populated England. The question is then if rewilding of an heavily dominated human landscape like Wicken Fen is possible and can be returned to a "wild state". This desire of rewilding Wicken Fen also led to the question whether such a rewilded area would be truly wild. Music credits: Truth and Fact (Orchestral) by Zapac, available from ccMixter. Even for people like me who listened to the very first ones, visiting the site every Monday to find new podiobooks or being able to share your opinions about ones you've already listened to is a real service. He's even started podcasting his reviews, both recent and older ones, so please subscribe on his site.On top of all that Odin is a REALLY nice person, great human being, and fellow "Watcher". I consider him one of my best Internet buddies. So what are you waiting for? In episode 25; my brother, Ted, and I discuss digital comics. We are both long time comic book fans and we take a bit of time to talk about our thoughts on digital comics and how we think it may impact the comic book industry. This isn't an interview, like most of my previous episodes. Also the audio quality isn't as good as I'd like. But I'm interested in finding out if you'd like more of these kinds of discussions on the show in general, and if you'd like Ted back in specific. So please comment on the episode and make your preferences known. And if you comment on this or any other episode, please email me and enter yourself in the contest that is going on until May 18, 2011 - http://gowmainframe.blogspot.com/2011/04/geek-out-contest-1st-year-celebration.htmlBumper:Arlene Radasky - http://www.radasky.com/Promos:The Weird Show - http://theweirdshow.com/How To Grow Your Geek - http://www.howtogrowyourgeek.net/I can be found and contacted at:Web Site: http://gowmainframe.com/ or http://geekoutwithmainframe.com/Twitter: @mainframe (or @gowmainframe for tweets just about the podcast)Email: gowmainframe at gmail dot comVoice Mail: 206-350-0528 Songs used are "Space Ride" & "Around", from the album "Around" by Oursvince at http://www.oursvince.com Thanks for listening!Download: GOWM_025.mp3

Our guests for Episode 21 are Philippa Ballantine (gracious as always, returning to the show) and Tee Morris (coming back to fiction in force in a major way). Those of you who have heard other interviews with them will know what to expect - awesomeness! If you have not, then prepare to go all over the place in the best possible way.Their book, "Phoenix Rising: Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences" is THE book I'm most excited about for 2011! I say that, because I know that it is going to be a lot of fun. Between plenty of action, and banter written by master practitioners of the craft; the awesome WILL be brought! Steam Punk, strong characters, explosions, snark .... and that's just in the first chapter ...I have my pre-order in and after you listen to Tee & Pip, you'll know why! :)You can find the audio promo for "Tales of the Archives" at http://www.ministryofpeculiaroccurrences.com/2011/02/27/podcast-promos/You can find all things Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences at:Web Site: http://www.ministryofpeculiaroccurrences.com/Twitter: http://twitter.com/BooksAndBraunWhrrl: http://whrrl.com/k/zc7/blUClBuy the book/ebook at: http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-Rising-Ministry-Peculiar-Occurrences/dp/0062049763/ref=as_li_wdgt_js_ex?&camp=212361&linkCode=wey&tag=theofficiw092-20&creative=380725You can find all things Tee Morris at:Web sites: http://teemorris.com/http://www.imaginethatstudios.com/http://www.idguardian.com/Twitter: @TeeMonster @ITStudios@IDGuardianBuy his books at:Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Tee-Morris/e/B002BM9TVG/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_pop_2Barnes & Noble - http://productsearch.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.aspx?store=book&ATH=Tee+MorrisOn Podiobooks.com:"Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword" - http://www.podiobooks.com/title/billibub-baddings-and-the-case-of-the-singing-sword"Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana (Remastered)" - http://www.podiobooks.com/title/morevi-remasteredReviews of his podcast novels at "View From Valhalla":"Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword" - http://www.viewfromvalhalla.com/2009/11/15/podcast-review-billibub-baddings-and-the-case-of-the-singing-sword/"Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana (Remastered)" - http://www.viewfromvalhalla.com/2010/04/12/podcast-review-24-morevi-the-chronicles-of-rafe-and-askana-remastered/You can find all things Philippa Ballantine at:Web site: http://www.pjballantine.comFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=62015834848&ref=tsTwitter: @PhillipaJaneGeek Out! Episode 20 is the second half of my interview with Brand Gamblin. We start off with a "scoop" about Brand's next project! I so000 need to get him back on to discuss steam punk (maybe along with another steam punk author or two?) and definitely when this next book comes out. Hint to other guys who do interviews similar to mine: Get Brand on your shows. Listeners, I think you are going to enjoy this episode :) If you haven't listened to the first part of the interview, you can find it here. Episode 19 is the first half of my interview with Brand Gamblin. Like an onion, "The Hidden Institute" has layers .... LAYERS O' AWESOME! Between the writing, the podcast audio production, and all the touches that Brand brings to to table; I love this book. And it has (wait for it) BEAR POLO!! We get as much into why the book is great as we can without the spoilers. Of course, Brand and I find other stuff to talk about ... but why are you still reading this ... please go listen to the episode now! Episode 17 is the first half of my interview with J. Daniel Sawyer. If Dan doesn't know something about media creation, it probably isn't worth knowing. ... O.K. that may be an exaggeration, but probably not by as much as one might think. His original full cast audio novel "Down From Ten" left me guessing until the very end (in the good kind of way). If you don't know Dan, get going and listen to the interview. If you do know about him, you probably haven't read this far without listening to the interview first anyway :)You can find all things J. Episode 8 is an interview with Philippa Ballantine. Philippa, or "Pip" to her friends far and wide, is THE premiere podcast author from New Zealand. In addition to her own acclaimed novels and podcast versions of those novels; she has appeared as a voice actor on a number of other podcast dramas. She is truly a delight as writer, voice actor, and interview guest :)I was honored for this podcast to be an official internet stop for promoting Philipa's new book. I’m pretty stoked about the book release of “Geist” … especially after reading the first chapter preview – http://www.booksoftheorder.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/sample_geist1.pdf . For more of the Geist tour you can go to http://www.pjballantine.com/about/appearances/ with dates. I think you will be in for a treat for all the tour “stops”. Episode 6 is the second half of the interview with podcast novelist P. C. Haring. His podiobook "Cybrosis" is a strong showing, with a stellar voice acting cast and writing to match. He is a long time member of the podcasting community and a really nice guy. We talk about being in podcasts together; being in the podcast community; the importance of beta readers; and hints of what Paul has planned for future podcast fiction! I also ask P. C. a question I promise not to ask in any future interviews, but thanks to Paul for being a good sport. :) P. C. Welcome to the introductory episode of "Geek Out! with Mainframe". Future episodes will be interviews of Internet media creators, such as podiobooks authors, and perhaps some of their fans. At the top of the interviews, we'll plug their projects but quickly we'll go off the beaten path and onto geeky side roads. Hopefully, you'll see a different side than you might in other interview shows. I may throw in little mini-episodes with geeky tips, especially the cheap kind. And after a few episodes, I hope to interview some of the listeners of this podcast. Songs used are "Space Ride" & "Around", from the album "Around" by Oursvince at http://www.oursvince.com The blog for the podcast is at http://gowmainframe.blogspot.com/ Thanks for listening!
