With THE MAN NOBODY KILLED: Life, Death, and Art In Michael Stewart's New York (Celadon Books), author Elon Green brings us an investigation into a terrible episode of police brutality and its aftermath in mid-'80s NYC. We talk about what drew him to the story of Michael Stewart, a 25-year-old black artist-model-DJ who died at the hands of transit police in 1983, his amazement that no one else had written this book, and how his early assumptions about a coverup gave way to a different coverup. We get into how he so wonderfully evokes the gritty NYC of that era, spreading out a canvas that takes in the arts scene — think Haring, Basquiat, Madonna — and the awful crimes and police behavior — think Bumpurs, Goetz — of that era. We discuss the art of interviewing people 40+ years after an event without reopening old wounds, the judge on the case who talked with him for 3 hours and shared how his conclusions on the verdict changed, what he sees in Stewart's art, how he tries to build the entire environment of the world he's writing about in his books, why he considers himself a history writer (& despises the "true crime" label & genre), why being a good journalist means having a sense of decency, bringing his first book to life as an HBO series, and more. Producenta, dje a publicistu Andreje Kabala jsme ve Špíně přivítali už před více než rokem, kdy s námi prokormidloval podzemní vody dungeon rapu.
There is incredible power in asking with faith—without complaining—and fully trusting God's Word. Every day, we place blind trust in ordinary things: mailing letters, relying on banks, ordering from Amazon, and investing in systems we never actually see. Yet, do we trust God's promises with the same certainty? When His answer doesn't come right away, do we continue to stand in faith, or do we take matters into our own hands? Numbers 23:19 reminds us: God is not a man, that He should lie. His Word is unwavering, and His promises are always fulfilled.
In 1977, while preparing a move to New York to make it big as an artist, a young Keith Haring gifted a lithograph titled “Bean Salad” as a goodbye present to his friend Mike. Mike couldn't bear to display the gift, but also couldn't part with it, and after 45 years he took the lithograph to the Santa Fe recording of GBH's Antiques Roadshow where it was appraised for $100,000-$200,000. But what was the unspoken history between the former friends? Join host Adam Monahan as he checks in with the guest to fill in the missing pieces and speaks with Haring's sister to learn more about the life and work of the famous pop artist's impactful and tragically short life.

Stefan Johansson discusses his painting "Ford," part of a series inspired by his racing career. He reveals that he has been painting since 1986 and paints daily. While he also takes photographs, he doesn't consider himself a professional photographer. Johansson mentions his friendship with the late artist Keith Haring, who designed his logo. In this episode of the Knowledge for Teachers podcast, Brendan Lee and Dr. Zach Groshell (Host of the Progressively Incorrect podcast) collaborated in the first of a series of episodes together. The theme for this episode was around what are the main principles that teachers need to understand about how learning happens and what are the key mechanisms of effective instruction. Zach's 4 points were: Intrinsic motivation is a lofty goal but can't be depended upon. Use generative learning strategies after building prior knowledge - and without the help of AI. The environment is not the "Third Teacher" but it can be designed optimally. We might underestimate how much students appreciate receiving feedback. Brendan's 4 points were: The instructional hierarchy is the single most important thing for teachers to know Desirable difficulties optimises learning Attaining and retaining attention is easier said than done Designing learning is more than just sequencing concepts in small steps Resources mentioned: Haring and Eaton's Instructional Hierarchy Bjork and Bjork's Desirable Difficulties Fiorella and Mayer - Eight Ways to Promote Generative Learning Stanislas Dehaene - How we learn Daniel Willingham - Why don't students like school Amanda VanDerHeyden Dylan Wiliam You can connect with Zach: Twitter: @mrzachg Podcast: Progressively Incorrect Website: educationrickshaw.com You can connect with Brendan: Twitter: @learnwithmrlee Facebook: @learningwithmrlee Website: learnwithlee.net Support the Knowledge for Teachers Podcast: https://www.patreon.com/KnowledgeforTeachersPodcast

Our tongues wield immense power. This seemingly small organ within us holds the ability to shape destinies. It can alter someone's perspective, shift their emotions, or even transform their professional trajectory and public perception. Whether you're in a position of authority or simply engaging in casual conversation, your words carry weight. While the tongue can be a force for good, it can also be a tool of harm, echoing the sentiments of our hearts. To ensure our words uplift rather than harm, we must nourish our hearts with positivity and purpose. We must fill them with goodness, giving God something to work with. Always remember: what fills your heart spills from your lips. So, what occupies your heart's space? Is it mere entertainment, like binge-watching shows, or is it a deeper connection with the Divine? One of the most powerful things we can do is to immerse ourselves in the Word, allowing it to shape our hearts and, in turn, our words.
Barabbas' story points to the idea that the Gospel is about a righteous Savior dying for guilty sinners—setting them free. Barabbas was a rebel and murderer. He was probably the next in line to be nailed to a cross, but because of a tradition related to the Passover festival, he was set free instead.
We are joined by Brent Haring the LSU baseball Director of Operations to get his story and talk about what his position entails. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jim-cross8/support

With RADIANT: The Life and Line of Keith Haring (Harper), Brad Gooch brings us the biography of Keith Haring, an artist who transformed public art & the art world in the 1980s and whose work has become part of global culture in the three decades since his untimely death from AIDS. We get into Brad's common threads with Haring, the parallels between this book and his biography of Rumi, how fatherhood helped Brad better understand Haring, and his surprise at discovering what a serious artist Haring was. We talk about why Haring's work makes more sense now than in the '80s, what he would have made of social media, the fire that drove him to make more than 10,000 pieces of art in his decade-plus career, the relationship of Haring to artists of color (among other race issues), where the Radiant Baby image came from, and what the younger gay population doesn't know about the AIDS crisis. We also discuss the incredible memorial of Keith and Howard Brookner at a recent Madonna concert, why 60 is a great age to start having kids, how Instagram reminds him of '80s social life, the parallels between the AIDS crisis and the early months of COVID, what Brad's learned in the course of writing four biographies, why Barbra Streisand's memoir reminds him of Karl Ove Knausgaard's My Struggle (!), and more. Keith Haring is one of my absolute favorite artists because he was earnest and direct in his paintings. In his works, he would reduce complicated messages to clear and catchy slogans. He used bright colors and dancing figures to make art that was fun but also sought to make the world a better place. In 1978, Haring moved to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts, where he studied painting along with semiotics. He also experimented with video and performance. Focus on performance made him more conscious of movement in his painting. He said he moved to NY because he wanted intensity in his life and in his art. He was inspired by hip-hop and the club scene where all kinds of people would come together to dance and have a good time. At his gallery openings, he would often have a DJ bringing the energy and movement to a venue not typically known for that vibe, and even after his work sold in prestigious galleries around the world, he continued to make chalk drawings on subway platforms and selling affordable prints in the Pop Shop because he firmly believed that art is for everybody.
