Sara Henya is a singer-songwriter and harpist based in Philadelphia, PA. Her music can best be described as Fantasy-Pop, combining the fun of pop music and the ethereal sound of the harp. Sara incorporates imaginative, fairy-like visuals that allow her audience to interact with her otherworldly character. Her melodic and complex artistry echoes the complex nature of her lived experiences with Tourette Syndrome, using music to transport into the enchanted sceneries detailed in her many tattoos. Sara Henya released her debut EP, Small World Alchemy, on May 20th, 2018. Her EP has received widespread radio play on Folk and Alternative programs such as Out of the Woods, Power Folk, Womenspace, and Radio 104.5's Live at 5. As well as touring music venues around the East Coast, she has created a large and dedicated following, which is especially seen at science-fiction conventions like Balticon, Arisia, and Philcon. This November, Sara will be Philcon's Musical Guest of Honor. In the summer of 2020, Sara released her first single of the year, Circle. On November 20th, 2020, Sara released her highly anticipated follow-up single, Pancakes. On January 8th, 2021, the official music video for Pancakes was released with very positive reviews. Nick from Tealcheese.com said, "My interest soon became deeper when I realized how well done this music video is. I would never have guessed that this is a relatively new artist." Sara Henya is inspired by artists such as Joanna Newsom, Grimes, Hannah Diamond, and Sara Bareilles. Her debut album is available now on all platforms. I wasn't planning on releasing this recording so soon. But in the wake of massacre in Orlando, it appears that queer people simply existing is a radical act. So, here is a panel about queer people existing. I was struck, listening to it again, by how much laughing is in it, how much joy, how much hope. There's complaints, too, and disappointment and sorrow. But it begins with laughter and ends with an expression of solidarity, and if that's not a radical reaction to all of this, I don't know what is.  I've made it a point to do these “queer visibility” panels for the past couple of years at Balticon, because, in the words of our forefathers, if you don't start none, there won't be none. A month ago, I thought it was important to stand up and be noticed. It's more important now. I'll talk about Balticon properly in a few days, That episode will have a live reading I did. And with that, listeners were transformed by the tale that P.G. Holyfield told.I began audio drama in the first wave of podcasting back over a decade now, and even though audio books and audio drama swim in different circles we do cross back and forth occasionally.I never got much chance to speak to P.G., but I too was wrapped up in his novel "Murder at Avedon Hill" and was excited at the opportunity for more. P.G. and I have a lot in common, a love of role playing games, fantasy, and of course Game of Thrones. P.G. is a lover of story, a weaver of tales and a podcaster of many podcasts well "Beyond the Wall" and "Tales of the Children" are the ones I've listened to. He's a favourite guest at both Balticon and Dragoncon and has an endless list of friends he's gathered in the seven years since he first podcast his novel. I mean P.G. Holyfield is such a presence in the podcasting culture, that I guess I took it for granted that I'd be able to interview him at any time.so, it was with some shock that I read a blog announcement from Chooch Schubert and Vivian Muse about the recent challenges to P.G.'s health. And after I started looking at pictures after pictures of Patrick with his friends that people posted on his Facebook and through twitter, and I listened to the love that Nutty spoke about, the fact that no one, NO ONE could say anything bad about this man... it got me thinking...Maybe, it's time for all of us to rise and shine a little bit more. You know the phrase "rise and shine"? My parents woke me up as a kid every morning, and I wake up my boys with that little piece of advice- Rise and Shine.P.G. Holyfield teaches me, even now, a little bit about being a better person. Not just rising to the challenges and doing the things I need to do, but maybe "shining" just a little brighter... smiling a little more, and being just that much more communicative about the people around me.I lost my best friend, eighteen years ago, and since then, I don't take my friends for granted. I'm very careful to tell the listeners of the Sonic Society know how much they mean to me at the end of each season. I try not to get too sappy through out the year, but maybe the secret of P.G.'s success as a man- beyond his wildly creative talent- is that he makes people around him feel valued all the time. Not just once in a while, and without having to say a whole lot. I'm not a very social person normally. I have trouble feeling comfortable around groups of people I don't know- hence my presence in Conventions have always been limited. I'm more comfortable on stage and in panels than chatting afterwards.Maybe it's time for me try harder. Maybe its time to rise a little to complete those creative endevours. Maybe its time to shine a little more with the people around me.If you want to help out P.G., and rise and shine a little more yourself, go to the Go Fund Me P.G. Holyfield Cancer Support page, put your memories of Patrick in an audio or a video... Talk to friends. Whatever you do...Time to shake yourself out of bed, and rise and shine...

Paul Fischer (digital network engineer) is our featured guest. Topics: Cyberwar: Several specific examples of computer hacking done by military forces around the world. How Iran's nuclear program was successfully cyber attacked. How the Chinese government successfully attacked a school in the USA (and bragged about it on their official TV news program). How a commercial airliner's onboard computer was accidentally infected with a virus which crashed the plane and killed all aboard. Also described: Why your car is now vulnerable to computer hacking, and how this can put your life in danger. And at least one incident without any hacking at all: how Fidel Castro cleverly tricked the Cubans into first giving up their ammunition, and then later (when they had no bullets) forced them to surrender all their guns. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the April 4, 2012 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 36 minutes]. This is the third part of an interview recorded using Skype on March 3, 2012. Paul Fischer is a digital network engineer. In his spare time (teamed with his wife, Martha Holloway) he organizes the new media track at the science fiction convention Balticon; produces the Balticon Podcast; and has several times served as judge for the annual Parsec Awards which are given for Excellence in Podcasting. Announcement: J.C.Hutchins (author of the popular 7th Son trilogy) said this about the new audio book version of Bones Burnt Black which is available for Free at Podiobooks.com:  "A riveting and realistic portrayal of space travel gone wrong, and of a crew who must fight for their survival. Paul Fischer (digital network engineer) is our featured guest. Topics: Even more examples of how your smart phone is vulnerable to viruses, trojans, worms, and other hacker software; some of which attacks your phone by way of blue-tooth, Wi-Fi, attached to the apps you download, or by tricking you into thinking the attacking software is actually an update for a trusted app you installed some time ago. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the March 24, 2012 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 42 minutes]. This is the second part of an interview recorded using Skype on March 3, 2012. Paul Fischer (digital network engineer) is our featured guest. Topics: specific examples of why your smart phone is even more vulnerable to viruses, trojans, worms, and other hacker software than is your computer, and why you can do pretty much nothing about it; how Corpus Christie's automated water meter-reading system caught a thief who'd stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of water, as well as allowed the city to lay-off every last one of their meter readers; and why cities and towns are scrambling to build their own wireless networks for their police, firefighters and other city employees. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the March 14, 2012 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 39 minutes]. This is the first part of an interview recorded using Skype on March 3, 2012. News Item: Some of you may be wondering why there has not been a final update on my TA-65 evaluation project yet. Well, it turns out we still have more pills to take. My mother read somewhere that it was good to take a break one day each week when taking TA-65. And so she did. And so we aren't out of pills yet. Although I should mention that even when we run out we will still need to have blood drawn, sent to UCLA for testing, and the results returned before I do a final explanation of all the results; so this could still take another month or two. I ask for your continued patience. Second News Item: I am pleased to announce that the audio version of my novel Bones Burnt Black will soon join the nearly 600 books available on Podiobooks.com. All of which are offered at everyone's favorite price: Free. If you haven't had a chance to listen to my novel, that opportunity will present itself beginning on March 28, 2012. And if you have heard it already, Podiobooks.com holds many other titles you can enjoy as well. (BTW: This is a new and improved version of Bones Burnt Black. The audio has been cleaned a bit more; and to give it that professional touch, music has been added at the beginning and end of each episode, as well as in the breaks between scenes.)

Title: Fables of the Flying City Author: Jared Axelrod Genre: Steampunk flying adventure Released: 30 May 2010 – 6 April 2011 Located: Author's Site, iTunes Formats Available: podcast Rating: PG-13 for some violence Fables of the Flying City had been on my radar since I heard Balticon buzzing about it (via twitter) last year. Of course, then I completely forgot about it until Mainframe (Richard Green) had the author, Jared Axelrod, on his wonderful interview show, Geek Out with Mainframe. I then forgot about it again (seriously, I'm simply terrible sometimes) until I asked Richard to remind me to subscribe. The act of asking someone else to remind me naturally caused me to remember and I subscribed. So, on to the review. Synopsis: Ashe, a young woman from the streets of the flying city of Amperstam learns what it takes to be a member of the Aerial Guard, and finds herself at war with an invading empire and the rulers of the city she has sworn to protect! Fables of the Flying City is written by Jared Axelrod, with illustrations by Steve Walker and Natalie Kelly. (stolen from author's site) Production: Mr. Axelrod, early on shows that he's not too worried about production and talks to his listeners about different setups he's experimenting with. These eps are short, often in the range between five and ten minutes. It isn't unusual for Mr. Axelrod to give his listeners as much metatalk as there is story. Since most of the metatalk I found informative or amusing, I didn't mind. However, I personally prefer this metatalk to come AFTER the story, but that is only my personal preference. Grade: C Cast: Mr. Axelrod does a nice job of self reading most of the story. He has a guest reader for several episodes, but the story is always a single voice. I liked Mr. Axelrod's readings. He has an infectious quality to his voice that makes your root for his heroine. I preferred his voice to his guests, but again, that is probably just my preference. All were easily understood and read the parts well. Grade: B Story: Fables of the Flying City is going to be a graphic novel. This podcast that Mr. Axelrod has provided is actually the prequel to that graphic novel. Having said that, this prequel stands on its own and does what any good prequel should do: makes you care about the characters that will be moving on. Grade: A Verdict: I truly enjoyed Fables of the Flying City. It is the first story that I've heard that I would classify as true steampunk and not a story with steampunk elements. The characters drive the story and your imagination is used (appropriately) to fill in some of the technology. I always looked forward to hearing the latest episode of Fables of the Flying City and I think you will to. I am very anxious for the graphic novel to make its way into my hands. Don't forget, if you send an audio comment to me at Odin1eye at viewfromvalhalla dot com, I'll include it in the podcast version of this episode next weekend. Disclosure: I do follow Mr. Axelrod on Twitter and find him quite the intelligent tweeter. I don't converse with him often or at length. I was not offered a free copy of the graphic novel for review (grinding teeth) or anything else in return for this review.
